There'll be a full feature on it in GameInformer next week.
The Da Vinci style drawings add further fuel to the fire that it takes place in Venice.

Sigh, I'm more interested in what the **** is going on with the Splinter Cell franchise, it's been dead silent about Conviction for quite some time.
Do you think they're just gonna let Splinter Cell die?
Splinter Cell is to me, at least since Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, the best franchise to bear the name "Tom Clancy".

I agree, but if they plan on making any more like Double Agent (PC & 360 version) then they should let it die, Chaos Theory was amazing and they follow it up with a buggy piece of crap that they never fixed.

Agreed with Warbie. The gameplay was terrible. Ubisoft have really disapointed with all their big releases so far on 360/ps3. Far Cry 2, meh. Pop, meh. They make lovely engines but stick terrible, repetitive, dull gameplay into them.

**** off, gameplay and atmosphere were amazing. I never understood about complaints of repetitive gameplay for AC, because I'd finally found a game that played differently from all the generic shit that gets released nowadays. Meh, maybe I just found it a little refreshing. I could run around for hours without even a thought to playing a mission.

The accuracy of AC's atmosphere was the biggest thing it had going for it.

Back when GameInformer first did a preview of AC it was said that it would be a trilogy, they even said the names of the sequels. I don't remember them though.

I think this is quite clearly the Marmite game of this generation. It's one of my favourites of the last few years, but clearly some people hated. Were these people maybe a bit too hyped? I enjoyed the game because I was utterly unimpressed by the previews and was pleasantly surprised when I played it.

Yeah, I know, but it's worrying they already scrapped a pretty close to final build to start from scratch if the reports are to believed.

Assassin's Creed was one of the most polished and well realized game's I've ever seen, but it didn't live up to the gameplay's potential. It's cities were astounding, and it's combat was definitely something I hadn't seen before, but it desperately needed something other than that the four or five missions to repeat, or the same civilians to save ad nauseum. But it absolutely shone in it's usually way-too-short assassination sequences, and all of the production was top notch.
I'm genuinely excited for the sequel, since their team really obviously has talent out the wazoo and just made a few mistakes that I doubt they're willing to repeat.

I'm currently replaying the first game and I'm enjoying it a lot. Just love the setting and the cities, they look awesome. Fighting can get a bit repetitive, as can the quests to find information, but I never really find myself getting bored.

That actually sounds great. Valve routinely get close to a final build then completely scrap it, they did so for Half-Life and Team Fortress 2 and look how great they turned out. It shows that they found issues with the game that can't be fixed without a complete restart.

Story > Awesome

Gameplay > Shit
I think it still makes the game rated Good.
They should add more events, variations, items and optional stuffs on the game.
It will be great if they include, such as, an unguided search in one of the cities.

The fact that Montreal developed a shitty product in the first place is what is worrying, good they scrapped it, but how did they get to the point of previews and playtests through to advertising if they thought the game they had was awful?

It's easy to start believing your own hype when you're working on a huge project with other people. That coupled with the fact that most games are marketed for what publishers think is the mainstream probably leads to lots of shitty design decisions.
Weren't they talking about taking it out of the middle ages? Consider me somewhathalfinterestedish
I haven't picked up the first one, been waiting for $20 or less price tag -- which is now, so thanks for that reminder.
I thought the first Assassins Creed was just Fantastic. Learning the new moves & getting the better equipment as you progressed was a real plus in my opinion. I spent countless hours just running around & causing all sorts of trouble with the local "militia" in every city. The "Modern Day" parts I didn't feel quite fit, but perhaps the 2nd will tie it all up, in which case all would be well. I only hope that the ending of AC2 is better than AC, because for me, AC was an easy 8 or even 9 at times, but at the very, very end, it left me feeling like WTF? What a waste of time! ( IMO )

Were these people maybe a bit too hyped? .
Far from it. AC managed to make running from roof top to roof top boring, hand to hand combat repetitive, and it screams dumbed down to me more than any other game. Everything was made easy - with that went all tension and suspense - and gameplay was as shallow as it gets.
I was so looking forward to nerve wracking escapes across vast cities - tiles slipping beneath my feet, roof tops threatening to collapse, having to nail that perfect jump - yet it turned out to be no more challenging or exciting than walking at floor level. Don't start me on the combat and the dodgy bolted on gameplay mechanics.
An exercise in style over content. So there :p

FYI, I own 360 and XB1 versions of DA, the XB1 version(Made by Ubi Montreal), was a great sequel to SCCT, in fact, if anything, I'd say it was the best Splinter Cell so far.
So pro-tip: Any Splinter Cell fan with a XB1, PS2 or GC, get Splinter Cell: Double Agent for that platform, gameplay wise it's better than SCCT, and storywise it's a lot better than the next-gen Double Agent.

As long as it doesn't have "UbiSoft syndrome". You know what I mean. An beautiful open world game with some really great ideas and potential, where you are given 3 or 4 simple tasks to repeat over and over again for the entire game. Examples: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia.

The biggest issue I had was they marketed the game like you would have different playstyles: stealth or all out erm..blades swinging. Thing is, there was no stealth whatsoever. You couldn't stealth kill any targets. It was just walk up to target - press stab button- listen to pointless speech - runaway and 'break line of sight'. Zzzz. Eurogamer's review sums it up perfectly.

I'm loving the Italian setting as Italy's history is probably my favourite of anywhere in the world.
I'm hoping that the Da Vinci wings are with you all the time and become part of your costume when you unlock them. I'd like to do an Eagle Jump thing from a tower, open my wings and swoop around a bit, and land right behind the guy I have to kill. In other words, I want to be the Italian medieval Batman. That was one of the issues I had. Everything in AC is easy - it's gaming with training wheels. With a decent combat system and free running that required a touch of timing and skill the game would have been so much better.
Ubisoft fail to make the distinction between dumbed down and accessible.

That gameworld, detail, and atmosphere was unbe-freaking-lievable, and wasted on a parkour game with bits of action and bad cutscenes.

After replaying, I'm pretty much convinced that the Hashishin aren't, as Warren puts it, backwater savages. The new logo, in a way, resembles the inverted V that symbolizes the assassin order, leading me to believe, that they will indeed succeed in blasting Desmond out. Or commandeer the Animus.

A propos the ending - the big fat Templar with a goatee and a bald head should make a reappearance.
