I actually don't want to download this. I'm gonna keep the first time I play the game unspoilt. Whenever I play a demo it takes the fun out of whatever level they used in the full game.

there's no catch to it? Time to create a euro account if so.

Yeah, I don't want to spoil it either, but it is going to be a SERIOUS test of willpower to not download it!!!

**** that, I'm downloading it on Thursday. It's only the first level (not like they drop you in the middle or anything) so I don't think it'll mess up the the real experience too much for me.

So, today should be Thursday in European countries right? Is it up yet?

i was under the impression that europe was somewhere around 5 weeks ahead of the east coast of the united states.

heh. It's basically noon here in California. I figured it'd be past midnight over there in London. No?

Awesome, just downloaded it (1.2gb, only took a half hour to download) from the EU store and just started playing.
For anyone that doesn't know, you can just create a EU PS3/PSN account and start the download, and switch back to your normal account and play it on there. I guess the preorder only thing is for those that haven't figured out you can just download it by creating a EU account.

You and your stupid PSN and PS3s...would be so much more justice on the 360...

Game's good, very good.
Only serious problem I had is when looking around there was a delay or something, like it was lagging...
Anyways, it's a damn good shooter but nothing new really, but that's not a bad thing. I'd call it the best console shooter for sure, unless the multiplayer fails somehow.

Dead Space = (System Shock 2 + Resident Evil 4)/2
Killzone 2 = (Call of Duty + Gears of War)/2
Its painfully derivative, but good at it!

Ahh just the whole 'PS3/360 only' games.
Like when MGS4 wasnt going to come to the 360, I nearly ACTUALLY cried.

If you knew MGS4 would be a PS3 exclusive why not just get a PS3?
I honestly see no reason as to why I should own a 360, the exclusives are decent at best IMO.

There needs to be an option to have "Stick to cover" be a toggle rather than force you to hold L2. I still hate the feel of the PS3 analog sticks, but that can't be helped. Anybody know if there's going to be KB&M support?
Eh I would download this demo normally but I really can't be bothered having to make a new European PSN account just for one game.

They should have cover toggled so you can use your iron sights and have iron sights as a hold button for R1(I use alt. 2 settings)
Downloaded it. It's ok.. A typical shooter with some nice effects. Voice acting could do with some work though.
The game's actually pretty good. It feels like a solid shooter that feels and the graphics are quite impressive. It's nothing we haven't seen before but it offers very solid and refined gameplay. A very nice follow-up from Guerrilla Games considering how average KillZone 1 was, bravo.

You can switch the zoom button between toggle and hold in the options.

I was doing some research on this and though it might be really old news to some people, I ran across this device....
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/01/xfps_mouse_and_keyboard_adapter_now_available_for_ps3-2.html
Anyone use one before? I'm tempted to get it because I hate playing FPS on consoles. Since my PC died, I have no other option right now.
It sounds like this device doesn't care what the game allows/doesn't allow. Sounds like you can do all the mapping you want and the game doesn't know the difference.

Don't expect anything like using a m&k on pc shooters. Think more like gluing a mouse on top of an analogue stick. Avoid like the plague!

Yep, I found out last night when I played the demo again. I still think the cover system should be toggled or at least have the option to be and we should be able to iron sight when we pop up.

You can use iron sights by using the analog to pop up or to the side.
The combination of holding L2, L1 (or clicking the right stick), up on the left stick and pressing R1 to fire...is way too involved to simply fire accurately from cover.

Hmm weird, nothing would happen when I tried yesterday. Well, i'm pretty happy that I can iron sight from cover now.
Yeah holding L1+L2 and having to move the analog left, right or up is a lot going on. I'm going to try the default and see how well the controls work with the cover system, now that I know how to use it properly.

I liked the demo but I dont find that interesting honestly, and I was one of the few who liked the first one
however the game looks nice
I like a lot how the weapons get really out of control when firing like crazy and the whole motion of the camera which the first one have too

One of my friends is jerk-off crazy about this game, he's prolly going to go buy it and rape it on launch day, and I'll go play it with him.

I saved the demo for friday night and found the whole experience to be very underwhelming. It looks good - the engine is solid and everything has a nice weight to it (finally a game has picked up where Golden Eye and Perfect Dark's hit animations left off) - but the gameplay is completely uninspired. Regardless of the sluggish controls (not helped by the PS3's rubbish, fps unfriendly analogue sticks), this plays like CoD i.e. there is absolutely nothing to it. A run and gun, no brainer shooting gallery of the most average kind.
Pre-order cancelled.

I like it well enough. It has good, solid fundamentals for an FPS and I'm sure the rest of the game will throw a lot of interesting set pieces at me to keep it fun throughout. The multiplayer sounds amazing too.
Maybe I'm just not as hyped as everyone else, but I expected an extremely pretty, polished, and all around solid FPS and that looks to be exactly what I'm going to get.

i was going to write something myself but this reallly is all you can say about it - although i do notice a large difference from this and CoD4, which i happen to really like. in fact playing this made me think "actually id rather save ?30 and go play CoD than force myself to play through this game anymore in a desperate attempt to like it".
what i will say is the dualshock analogue sticks and triggers are shockingly bad.
edit: its alost a shame i have so many great FPS's to play on my xbox360, or i probably would be a lot more inclined to buy this
edit number 2: yeah, just played demo again. its just not that fun and the controller really doesnt help

Seriously, wtf is up with the controls?!
Play Killzone 2 then load up another console fps (I tried Fallout 3 and Halo) and it becomes immediately obvious how slow and odd the control are. It's so weird - like built in lag combined with the world's slowest turning circle.

That's designed to give the game a more realistic, weighty feel, as if you were an actual person and not a floating gun. Honestly the feel I get from KZ2 in this regard is fairly similar to Mirror's Edge, and in this aspect that's not a bad thing at all.
Notice how when you push the jump button you don't become instantly airborne as in similar games, you actually take a couple crouched steps forward and then leap. The same applies to the guns and I like it quite a bit. The fact that it feels different to other FPS games is a good thing, not a bad one as you seem to be saying.
The reviews I've read all address what your saying and list it as a positive, saying after an hour or so you adjust and the game feels a lot better because of it. From what I've played I've got no problem believing that's true, I've been wanting something similar to this for awhile.

1. Do you really have the full game? (photographic proof please)
2. I'll play along... Does the full game have an alternate fire mode for some of the guns? Or are the grenade launcher and shotgun attachments on the standard assault rifles just there for show?

Is it much better than the demo? More varied? I really didn't enjoy the point a gun at the bad guys and shoot till they fall over, rinse and repeat gameplay.
Is the aiming still rather odd, or is there an option to turn the 'realism' off (apparently the early beta versions had normal aiming)

I think part of the problem is with the demo--it just is not that great a display of what the game has to offer (from what I gather in other reviews), the big drawback being that it lacks multiplayer and anyone who was in the beta will tell you that the multiplayer was great fun and will be even more fun with the final version.
I will likely get it anyway to serve as a graphical showcase for friends and family and I will love wandering through the environments shooting things and wondering at the gorgeous lighting and such. I would use empty multiplayer maps in the beta to shoot toilets in darkened bathrooms and could never get enough of the lighting and destruction.
I am personally looking forward to Demon's Souls WAAAAYY more than this. My English-enabled Asian copy ships in 2 weeks!!!
