Huh? this is the first zp review in a long time that I have disagreed with. Some things he said are fair anough but on the whole IMO the game is brilliant and he is the first person i've heard say anything bad about it.

It's a good game, I agree. The atmosphere is good, the plot is brilliant, but... I've seen it all before.
System Shock 2
Anyone who completed SS2 with his brain on can see how Dead Space is (basically) an updated SS2 clone. Without the scare factor.

Pretty funny review.
I'm not that interested in Dead Space tbh, I played SS2, and then I played a dumbed down clone, Bioshock. Unless I can be convinced otherwise I'll avoid Dead Space for fear of the same disappointment that Bioshock left me with.

Yeah, I'm not going to watch it. I thought it was a beautiful game and I don't want to get pissy. My only cravat is that the re-playability sucks, but then again most single player games are that way.

I agree with him somewhat. The game came of as well made, looked good, smooth controls, and
decently atmospheric. But at the same time soulless, it's a game by the numbers. It doesn't really have
anything that I will remember it for, it's doesn't have it's Cpt Pirice, it's all ghillied up, its g-gun, it's
glados, there is nothing that has really captured me, be it emotionally, or because of originality, it lacks character.
A better plot ,with less fixing and more human interest as plot advancements could have done it.
The fleshy enemies, the dark metal scifi setting, seen it all before done equally as good. I haven't played
it all the way trough, I just stopped at level 7, but at least until now it was still very repetitive, and the
handyman syndrome isn't much fun either. 7 levels of fix this, fix that as plot advancement really doesn't
interest me much, it's very elementary and doesn't really spark as much interest in me to move on,
especially considering I'll just came across the same ole enemies, on which i will use the same ole
strategies. It's a good game, but I'm not seeing the brilliance everyone keeps talking about.

It has the Plasma Cutter. Also, dropkicking fetus monsters

Agreed. Dead Space is, imo, a perfect execution of a cliche plot/setting. We have all seen these things before in books and movies. It's very funny. Not original.

If you actually take the time to read the comics, watch the movie and play through NoKnownSurvivors, you get a very deep backstory that adds a lot to your understanding of the game..
But I guess most of you fatties are too lazy for that.:p

Basically, what Gargantou said. Movie is meh though.

Basically, what Gargantou said. Movie is meh though.Yeah it is, the actual comics(not the videos, they are heavily shortened versions of the comic books) actually add a lot of nice background to the story, and gives you more details on scientology.
Edit: Err.. I meant unitology..

Every game is an SS2 clone, which itself is derived from the motion picture "Escape from New York" like most modern media!
Its Just Halo but with the flood and nothing else.
What I thought of pretty much. I really enjoyed the game and I agree and disagree with him. I found it had a great atmosphere even if it has already been done. It did however also have a fair amount of repetitiveness. I wasn't nearly as scared through out the game as I was at the very beginning. It was just more of the same enemies, same situations, same level design. It is still a great game though saying that.

Disagree with the review totally, and it wasn't particularly funny either. Yahtzee went into the game expecting a science fiction horror and (surprise, surprise !) got Event Horizon crossed with Aliens, two of the better science fiction horror movies out there.
More importantly, the game mechanics actually work together to make the game fun (RE4 interface, inventory management). So to those deciding to buy - ignore his review and watch some of the gameplay videos and professional reviews and decide then (ditto for The Witcher, as well).

What's with the sticks up people's asses? Honestly it's as if he can only be funny if you agree with him, and if he bashes your pwecious ikkle beloved game you get all butthurt and suddenly jokes of the same quality as always "aren't funny".

Yeeeeeah, I agree with Yahtzee.
Dead Space is a superb game - don't get me wrong, but after the first two chapters I was simply going through the motions of walk, BOO!, dismember, fetch, return. Personally, it was a bit of a repetitive drag from start to finish but presented sublimely and polished to a high shine.
Didn't want to post it in the thread because everyone was enjoying themselves so much.

I agree on some of his points, but I think he was being way too hard on the game. I guess it's up to personal taste how atmospheric the game is - The later chapters didn't have the same fear factor, true, but in my case Dead Space succeeded in keeping me creeped out with a good environment. The problem with horror is that not all people react the same, and I can understand how Yahtzee might find the game not as immersive as I did.

I agree with him. I do like the game so far - I'm almost through with chapter 7 I think - but it seems very samey to me. I've no real drive to finish it. I'm slogging through because I've paid for it, damnit, and it has moments of good fun. The monsters were cool at first but they lost their scare value ages ago, and now monster attacks are just frustrating because the controls are hideous. I'm always low on ammo because I keep missing which makes it all incredibly frustrating. I have the PC version and I can see it being muuuch better on a console for the controls alone.
The environment is nothing new, nor is the story, the characters aren't engaging or interesting, the audio logs are a dumb necessity (find better ways of telling the story plz) and Isaac is a robot. Bland bland bland.

I've gotta say although I do really like the game but i have to disagree with the people who think it is an amazing game. Because yes it is not anything new, has handyman syndrome and is quite frustrating at many points. But it is still a good game, very good but it is not amazing and not the scariest game ever (after about chapter 5 anyway, before then it was although i've not played condemned).

This.
I don't understand why people have this urge to splurt their angry brains out on this forum the moment Yahtzee says something they don't agree with. If you have a differing opinion, fine. That's expected. But enough with the whole "OMG This is the Xth time I thought he did a crap review" or "Yahtzee isn't a real and proper reviewer", as if you people have so much love for the inflated scores these alleged professionals dole out to overhyped titles and shit you don't care for. And it's almost always punctuated with this "BAWWW Yahtzee wasn't funny this time!" crap.
It's routine, lads.
