I am interested in this demo because the game seems at least a little intriguing given some of the press that has come out about it recently. Will try the demo at least....

when do PS3 demos usually get released on the PSN store?
I know the XBL marketplace usually drops their demos and arcade games around 2 am PST. Was wondering if PSN store does a similar thing.

Looks great, but not a fan of the tough talking and acting fem trainer. Does anyone know about the story in this game? Cool action is great and all, but what is the point of such innovative gameplay if there is no good reason for it? If this were a Run Lola Run game I could understand it a bit better...:P

Basically you live in a 'dictatorial utopia', there is almost no crime etc but everything is monitored, to get messages delivered without surveillance picking it up and such they use people called runners who deliver it by hand, running from security etc, I'm tired and cba to explain it better.
LOL at the demo video, notice what OPM said about Mirror's Edge "The future of the PS3 starts here!", yeah because a game that's coming to the XB360, the PC too is definitely gonna start the future of the PS3!

The main reason I'm looking forward to it is the fact that last time we got a first-person shooter that tried something a little different, we got Portal.

Just played the demo, and it's just as much fun as it looks. :) It felt a bit more linear than I expected, but no big deal. Controls are dead simple, but perfect.
Is there any reason to get this on PC over consoles? If not, I might grab this for my PS3 (the six-axis stuff controls your balance on tight ledges).

I imagine that, being an EA game, it's gotta be for the consoles. I doubt there'll be any optimisation for the PC.

Well, PC release is no longer the same as consoles, it's being delayed to sometime "later in winter", possibly early next year. Thanks EA.

Just finished downloading, installing and played alittle bit 5 minutes ago. Not finished with the demo but takin a dinner break. This game is fun, nothing too overtop but it's not a letdown either, controls aren't complex... very simple, and easy to learn. The game is all about executions*, like timing wise... the previous interviews from the devs are no lie... it's really all about keeping momentum to get the smoothest, most satisfying play out of the game.
*One part you have to wall jump by pressing L1, then do a quick turn by pressing R1, and then L1 again to grab hold of the opposite ledge.
i'd also imagine this game would be better played with a gamepad, despite it bein First Person... it's not exactly shooter orientated... I also foresee this game could change how FPS games in general are made as far as player movements go(hope to see a battlefield with this type of player movement style incorporated), other than this, another game I can think of off the top of my head that has a similar style would be FarCry 2... where you can slide into cover from running.
this is a definite buy in my book... just need to try out the 360 demo to see which one im gettin it for.

I just played through the 360 demo.
It's REALLY fun. It all controls very nicely, very smooth. I had a bit of doubt about this game previously, but the demo has quelled all of that. I especially like how it doesn't slow you down while sliding under things, or jumping. It's all very fluid.

Yeah, normally single player only games turn me off for consoles ($70), but I loved playing this. When you get used to it and are able to string everything together its amazingly rewarding. Plus the disarm minigame is cool, and never annoying (or mandatory). The game looks gorgeous too, really love the art style, and the music is a perfect fit.
"Silver" users such as myself still don't even have access to the Nuts & Bolts demo, so I'm sure we'll get shafted on this for a few weeks as well.

I'm so impressed with this demo :)
You know how in every fps that lets you see your legs/body it always looks shite and completely unconvincing, or how in all the others you end up just feeling like a floating camera with a gun attached underneath? This is the first first person game i've played in which it actually feels like you have a body that's touching and interacting with the gameworld. tbh it's a pretty ****ing big leap for fps and one that every shooter from now on, to at least some degree, should adopt. It's surprising how being embodied in this way can make actions that would be mundane in other games exciting - just running about, charging through doorways and leaping over stuff had me on the edge of my seat. The stringing of more complex moves together takes it to a new level. The pistol is also the best looking pistol since GE graced our screens and the disarming, especially when at the end of a chain of crazy moves, is awesome. Even if the full game doesn't quite deliver (I suspect it will) the potential is plain to see.

Fantastic. Glad they included the tutorial since I now actually know the controls, as opposed to when I played before (http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=148442), I've had a proper feel for the game I want to buy it right away. It feels so slick stringing together moves, can't wait for more FPS games to implement similar systems. Other than the disarming, which I felt could be improved, the controls are perfect.

Enjoyed it quite a lot, running from the guards at the end was pretty adrenaline pumping for a game. Didn't find any paths that deviated from the main one though, but I guess it is like the first mission. I'll wait for reviews to decide whether it's a purchase or a rental, I have a feeling it's going to be on the short side.

One of the best songs used in a videogame. It gives personality, depth and emotional charge. Reminds me of the original soundtrack for Code 46 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345061/), which has a similar gloomy, melancholic setting.

My main concern is that the full game won't deliver on what the demo promises. If we end up with more of the same, Mirror's Edge will be awesome!

Just played the demo now, and this game has COMPLETELY, 100% blown me away on every level. From the complete immersion of playing Faith (her breathing, the momentum of running, being able to see her hands and feet etc), to the frankly fabulous (if a little simple) artistic direction to the, as noted above, fantastic music.
I loved the little animations too, like when youre jogging toward a door she'll just kick it open, but if youre full on sprinting at it she'll sholder-barge through it and keep the momentum going out the other end.
This has just been prioritised over GoW2 I think for me.
Absolutely genre defining. Its just so....fresh.

My only gripe I have about this game is that I can see it becoming repetitive unless you play it the way its meant to; keeping the momentum.
Bad^Hat
03-11-2008, 02:22 PM
Yeah, doesn't seem like the kind of game where you take your time and explore much, momentum seems to be the pervading theme throughout from what I've seen. That's why I'm hoping it's longer than your average 6-hour play'n'forget campaign, or at least has some replay value in the form of fun time trials or extras or... maybe some kind of online content? I don't know. Otherwise it's just gonna be a rental, as much as I'd like to be able to throw some money at it just for the sake of supporting innovation.
EA making DLCs exclusive to one console? Source?
Sony did confirm that although Mirror's Edge is multi-platform, "PlayStation has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title."
Plus, the spokesperson added, "Exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network."
It's not yet clear what form this content will take, or whether Xbox 360 and PC owners will get their own exclusive goodies. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=228878)
Google is very handy. :)

I wasn't even paying attention to this game until my housemate downloaded the PS3 demo last night... and then I was quite unimpressed with the tutorial's dictatorial way of making you jump through specific hoops. Must have taken him half an hour to get through it all.
Good job I gave it a try myself this morning. My housemate needs to be banned from ever picking up the PS3 controller again. Sure, I saw the tutorial gal jump unnecessarily over and up the L1-R1-L1 board several time (I can't resist mashing L1-L1-R1-L1. I suck.), but once you get the hang of it, if flows very well, looks beautiful and has one truckload of potential. Still, negative thoughts:
* Any good game is going to have to be proven excellent to catch any gamer's attention in what is turning into one crowded season.
* Length wise it has its work cut out. Good gamers are literally going to sprint to the end of it, so unless DICE have been churning out a buttload of content, the game is going to turn out short. Sure, I replayed the demo three times straight, but if it turns out Portal in length terms, people are going to be sore that it's not Portal in price terms.
* It could get old quickly... maybe...
* We haven't seen much of the story, but so far it just seems 'interestingly generic'.
* Where is the PC version, bitch?
So, I'll be waiting for the reviews. Nevertheless, this just leap-frogged many of the other Christmas titles in my book. Goodbye Far Cry 2, see you when you're on Budget.

its interesting to me how you can do every skill and maneuver from the get go, but at the the same time you cant.
what you are capable of doing is completely based upon how skillful of a player you are.
i think this will add ALOT of replay value. which is important for singleplayer-driven games

Agreed. This is how it should be in most games. I imagine that with enough practise it'll be possible to pull off some insanely cool moves and timed runs in Mirror's Edge :)

Everybody should do themselves a favor and immediately turn Runner's Vision off. It makes the game feel so much more fluid and less directed, even if you are running the same routes. It forces you to make snap decisions while being chased and adds more uncertainty to the whole thing.
