Looks awesome - I'll be picking this one up for sure.

Although if I'm being honest, it looks like it could do with a few mods already. :p Just the weapon sounds and interface really (I really prefer a more minimal UI - like OL's). The music's definitely going off as well.

It really looks great, I just hate the action music. This is supposed to be an atmospheric game, the music really doesn't help.

I think pretty much everyone (the critics) has bitched about the music. I'm pretty sure it become optional. I think they might of been taking a lead out of HL2 introducing it, but I hated it in that as well.

Graphics are great but some bits are still rough, some of the animations, weapon sounds. Switching weapons seems a bit sluggish too.

Looks far more polished than STALKER was when it was first released. Looks like the UI has been completely revamped as well, which is certainly welcomed by me. The visual updates are great as well. The one problem that jumped out at me in the video was the dialogue of NPCs overlapping.

Switching weapons seems a bit sluggish too.

It's the same as it was in the first game. The devs went for a more realistic approach to weapon management and switching, which is why switching weapons takes longer than in some other games.

It's not so much a matter of the speed of the reloading, so much as it is the fact that it looks like the animations are going in slow-motion or something. The first game has this problem as well, especially concerning NPC animations, and it really brings down the presentation quite a bit. It seems like GSC can program in all the pretty effects they want, but they can't hire a decent animator or bother with motion capture. I mean, they are a small company and everything, but...

Oh man, me want! He snagged a crow out of the air... that'll pass the time if there are any exceptionally long journeys. The lighting seems revamped? Very nice. The techno 'fight' music has to go, I hope there'll be an option to turn it off.

I actually like the music, reminds me a lot of Half-Life 2, but it also kills the tension, something that Clear Sky really should slather on as much as possible. It's cool, just not in this type of game. However, if it's limited to some key scenes in the story missions, I really won't mind too much.

This is also in the other stalker thread... but yeah, it looks cool. Glad to see some use out of the bolt.

But unless you look, it would be buried a page later. New thread, it's on the front page ;)

Except for the cinematics, its boring to just watch this. NEED NAO

I wouldn't mind if that was the case too but it looks like the music will start every time you are attacked by bandits.

Yes, the action music is the biggest thing I'm not happy about. I hope it's "turn-offable".
I've noticed that the ambient music is great, though. It seems more pronounced than the SoC music, but still very atmospheric and cool.

Everything about the beginning of the video seemed to take a lead out of HL2, for some reason.

Not that I'm complaining; it looks good, but I don't think I'll find the time to play it, at least not during the summer. Maybe when winter rolls around and I get bored.

Noob question: do I need the original Stalker to play this game?

Noob question: do I need the original Stalker to play this game?

It's a standalone. they've upgraded the game engine considerably from the original. However it would be no bad thing to buy the original and get a feel for the game.;)

I would say yes, because if you play STALKER: Clear Sky first, and then want to play Shadow of Chernobyl, it won't be the same since the the differences in the engine as well as the localization will be very stark.

Just a thought. And yes, it's cheap, so I would suggest picking it up.

The original is a broken game in many ways, but is definitely worth playing just to experience the atmosphere, it's a radically different gaming experience from halo, HL2 or FEAR. I know a few people here fanatically push various mods as 'the way it's meant to be played' but personally I'd say just play it with the offical patches. The developers have had plenty of time to add overly decayed Zombies etc in a patch if they wanted to, and they never have so I take those claims with a pinch of salt tbh.

I just had to post this:

I was laughing a good long time at the bloodsucker...

Btw, I hope the type of stalkers are a bit more "multinational" this time around. It got boring when everyone has a slavic accent.
