Snipers are the best ever, period.
What are some good games where the main character is a sniper or uses sniper rifles often?
Hitman, Battlefield, etc.
I know there are a few where all you do is snipe, and they are super realistic and everything (like velocity, distance, wind direction kind of stuff), some of these, too, please.

one level in COD4, though of course you've played that.

No, I haven't played single player COD4, just multi. Although I was kind of shooting for older games, not really really new ones. Something that i'd be able to find for like $30 or under.

This, it's really the only good one that actually focuses on sniping.
You play a WW2 sniper and it's just incredibly in depth.
You can time shots between explosions to mask your sound and all that, that's just how detailed it is.
Awesome game, tons of videos of it on youtube.
Mass Effect actually has surprisingly satisfying options if you want to be a sniper, but obviously the combat is stat-driven to a large degree. Outside of that, all I can really think of is Call of Duty 4 (self-explanatory), Half-Life 2 (everyone loves crossbows), and maybe Unreal Tournament. It's too bad that sniping isn't given too much priority in most games. I tend to enjoy it quite a bit.

Sniper: Art of Victory. I haven't played it but I heard it was decent, though I'm not sure about the pricing.

Imagine a game that simulated modern snipers fully.
It'd be the most boring game ever.

Lol yeah.
You'd have to stare at the screedn for 14 hours waiting for your target to show up.

Hidden and Dangerous 2.
Love this game.
If you can find it, JFK Reloaded. It may be incredibly tasteless and lack the depth of a full retail game - but for abandonware it models ballistics and recreates things extremely accurately.

ArmA. Has a few sniping missions and things are modelled rather realistically.
Also, the old Delta Force games had very well realised balistics and you can, if you want, play the entire game with a sniper rifle.

Joint Operations, it's a multiplayer FPS by Novalogic (who did Delta Force) massive maps, 150 player servers and you can just be a sniper, sit on a hill somewhere and pick players off over 1km away, there is bullet spread and drop too, several rifles and you can change costumes to gillie suits and stuff.
You can probably pick it up for about ?5, graphics are still okay too.

JO is essentially dead now.
There's only about 4 servers each with about 30 players each.
All laggy and all playing terrible custom maps.

Oh man I played the CRAP out of that game, too bad everyone started cheating and then all the servers just died off.

Bah, both TF2 and TFC are terrible examples of a proper sniping system.
Really, any hunting game or even just Sniper Elite are the best games that focus on sniping that are out there atm.

are you just looking for multiplayer or missions
Do people actually play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars? I may be inclined to pick it up on the cheap.

tbh, I've been playing TF2 (I kind of just got it, complicated), and it's kind of boring.. It doesn't really do anything I've never seen before, the graphics are kinda cool, but you don't notice them while running around shooting everyone.
Now, I'm not saying it's a bad game or anything, it's fun to set up teleports/turrets, knife, flamethrower (which Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory does WAY better, never seen a game beat it's flamethrower tbh), but it just wears thin a little, I could play CoD4 and get pretty much the same thing. It's good game, but a bit above average I'd say. Nothing to waste days and days and days on.

Make sure the building is not too high, though, so that your targets are within draw distance.

I actually re-downloaded Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
It still kicks ass, got lvl 4 in everything within 3 maps, played as nothing but sniper. Got the best kill streak, 15 kills in 1 life (cause I sniped em all). I haven't played this game in ages, and it's still awesome.

Are you insane? The game features the best and deepest team-based multiplayer gameplay in the last five years, at least.
