View Full Version : "Ohhh, Shakey Breaky!" -Wtf?

Okay, so I started playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on my new comp, really enjoy it, dunno why there are people who hate it.
There are very few things that bother me with it. There was like one or two bugs, but they were not even a big deal. Except when two bandits spawned right in front of me :hmph:
Anyways, what annoys me sometimes about the game is the AI repetition of speech at some points. While entertaining at first, it gets old, like after ridding a neutral camp of 4 waves of bandit rading the other stalker is still going to point his gun at me and say "Urushia Brow!" everytime I raise my weapon... even when killing the bandits for him! Come on dick.
Secondly, does anyone here speak Ukranian or whatever they speak? Because the Bandits always say something in Ukranian that sounds like "Ohhh, Shakey Breaky!" and every time I think "Shit, Shakey Breaky Bandits are Back."
Also, when I was in the bar, the guy who kept whining about his gun, even after I told him I'd help him, shadddd apppp. I was listening to a story from the bar tender and I keep hearing "Ohhhh, Von't somevan help meh plez?" "Ohhhh" I wish I could shoot him.
Anyways, other than that, I really enjoy the game and don't understand why there are extreme haters of the game.
I started making a Bloodsucker Action Figure for fun as well :P

They're basically threats which can't really literally be translated.
And he's saying "Gun/Weapon away"
I would play the vanilla once through to get the feel... then play the Oblivion Lost 2.0 mod. It's what Stalker was really meant to be like. It's ****in scary shit.

Oh dude everything by tenfold!!! You need to actually think tactically about surviving, ie: money for food, money for repairs, mutant and military attacks, doing the storyline, sleeping before a blowout
Oh yeah, blowouts...how far are you in the game mate?

Hmm, I can't remember. I've been through a Military Base. I was going to go underground next to some Stalker base to get a suit, but decided to screw it simply because I have weak armor and that Bloodsucker was kicking my ass, so I grabbed some stuff down there and hauled my ass quick before it got me.
One of the things that pisses me off is how I can't find any new wear. I can't take any of the military men's armor, or any of the Stalker's armor who have better protection after they bite the dust.
Kula Meenur
02-07-2008, 07:54 AM
Yeah, you just gotta buy it :( Bit of a shame.
In OL, you can get it repaired which is good so you can actually get some degree of wear outta your armour. You don't have to keep running back to the Bar and buying new stuff again.

Stalker is an awesome game, but whenever I get really into it a Bloodsucker shows up and scares the S**T out of me.
Some of the mods (I think Oblivion lost) make it so creatures can wander from territory to territory, so you will just be skipping along in the sunny first area and before you know it - TERRIFYING bloodsucker ambush.
Also when is the sequel/addon thing released?

Ah, I am starting to have a lot of fun with this game now. I realized you can kill most anybody in the Freedom base when they are off duty and they wont notice, I killed 30+ without them noticing.
So I killed this dude guarding a door and found a nice suit, a big mofuggin grenade launcher too. That's mah baby, great for killing large groups. Lol, I found it funny that the leader was so unaware that I killed over half of his men, so I took most of the bodies and left them in his room
Anyways, I traveled to the Dark Valley and I went into that underground lab with the Polterguests and the Pseudogiant. That place was a real treat, definately my favorite part at the moment. Especially when you go into that one part with those fetus things all hooked up.
I just wish you could read the documents you retrieve =/

I recall the area where there is the freedom base, a group of Stalkers was defending a spot, I traveled through there, and I had to kill a bunch of tough guys, eventually I reached some base that was just too tough so I turned around. You are supposed to find a controller in the end of the Agroprom research institute.
And follow ALL strelok related quests, including finding strelok's stash or something like that, you get that early in the game.

ZT, finish the game in vanilla mode, then look for mods that add lots of critters. Apparently the game developers had to stunt the A-Life (?) system for the various beasts, because there was a good chance that they'd bork the storyline by killing someone, or not being in the right place at the right time. I forget which mod I'm playing now, but it's a frickin' safari.
There is also a mod or two that'll either shut the stuttering stalkers up, or allow you to carry a live weapon into the bar to deal with them yourself. It's annoying, but it was funny enough to start an Internet meme.

I find the game has a lot of situations like that. I chose to help out with a Duty raid on a Freedom base, just recently. I shot the first sniper or two in their towers as instructed, but then there was just tons of radio chatter that I couldn't make sense of while firefights broke out all around and I sort of wandered aimlessly amid the chaos. Eventually the mission completed itself, but I really couldn't figure out why. Unfortunately, the guy who gave me the mission was killed and I was unable to actually complete it and had to load an earlier save. Only after did it become apparent that the raid was to kill a particular guy, and the radio chatter was supposed to be relaying enemy positions to me and stuff. Well, great.
Although I'm loving S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s atmosphere, and the combat is pretty enjoyable, the game routinely fails at basic things like instructing the player what to do in a given situation. Usually, it only clearly explains what you're supposed to do in your PDA, and of course if you're in the middle of an attack, it doesn't help that the action doesn't pause so you can figure it out. Even the plot tends to be a complete jumble due to the open-ended nature of the game, but it's not helped by the fact that it's never really clear whether something you're doing is actually significant to the main story, or just a side-mission. Part of it might be the fact that the game's translation could be a lot better... hopefully Clear Sky makes some serious improvements to the storytelling. From what I can gather, though, GSC is completely obsessed with their graphics technology and not too much else. It's like they've made this really cool game and are so familiar with it that they forget that things aren't obvious to everyone else.

As soon as you enter the NPP, head west and dodge through the combat to the main facility. Hug the wall and continue until you hit a gate which will enter you into a depot. That's your target. There is a drainage pipe in the western half of this depot.

Exactly my opinion of it.

I really like the cinematics in this game, "One dees days you'll end badly Strelok" lol, I often find myself talking in a Ukrainian accent/making up Russian sounding gibberish after playing this game for hours.

Did you find strelok's stash in the beginning, and did you do the "Meet the guide" mission?

That's one of the alternate and non-canon endings, likely. The game only gives you the real ending if you've completed certain conditions, I believe.

No, I will not read that spoiler, more fun to find out myself. Okay, I left the zone and went back and got Strelok's stash, do I bring it to the guy in the beginning? Because the barkeeper doesn't seem to mention it when I went there.
Maybe it's too late and I messed up the continuity.
This was the ending I got-

Of course, given the complexity of such AI, we had our share of problems and general weirdness. During early development and testing of combat intelligence, one stalker went mad and began to consider himself as an enemy, trying to dispose of this "enemy" as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, our good-for-nothing animators did not plan for the possibility of putting your own gun to your temple, so the poor stalker had to instead shoot the only part of the "enemy" body he could reach - his own feet. Laughing For a good 10 minutes the entire design team, while rolling around on the floor from laughter, watched as the stalker-wannabie desparately battled with his own limbs. In the end, having used up two full magazines, the NPC died, submitting the diagnostic "Enemy successfully terminated" before terminating. Embarassed

Well, thanks to this thread I gave STALKER a reinstall with the latest Oblivion Lost mod (2.1.1?) - and wow, what a difference that mod makes. The game just seems to be polished and improved in almost every single way. Not to mention it's now shit scary to boot. I barely even play the game at night now (unless there's a full moon). It's just so dark, I usually end up using the sleeping bag for 10 hours and continuing in the morning. :o
Earlier I got a warning message telling me there was a bloodsucker sighting in Cordon, so I decided to go hunting for it in the pitch black. I nearly had a heart attack when I got jumped by a weird zombie instead. The bastard took two shotgun shells to the face, and after a little while - GOT BACK UP and scared the shit out of me again when it's screaming face suddenly appeared in my torchlight. Never did find the bloodsucker though.

I think they're a new feature of Oblivion Lost 2.1 actually. Looking at the 2.1 features, it adds faction wars - which gives you messages telling you who's attacking where.
It's pretty cool, as you'll get a message saying that Freedom have attacked Duty at the bar or whatever, and if you get there in time you'll be able to see the fight and join in if you want. Otherwise if you're too late you can just loot all the corpses that've shown up instead. The warning message I got was in the same format so I'm guessing it's part of the update.

You can, I used a weather and sounds mod with it before.
Granted I had to track down a version of the mods that came out for the unpatched version of STALKER, since they STILL haven't released the latest f*cking update for the game.
Well, most mods don't even officially work with the latest 1.0006, but that patch only has multiplayer fixes. Whether or not it works with your mods is a gamble, though.

Haha, srsly. I did it without being anyone's ally. I was walking around, looking for a good sniper's nest to take out the guards on the main building, and walked into a room with 8-12 people in it. Dropped a 'nade and ran.
Once I've finished the game for the first time, I'm tempted to go through it and kill every single person I come across, no matter who they are. That Strelok can't get away from me!

Reading this had made me reinstall the game and try out the OL mod. Just built my new computer so I can play everything on full this time round. Also, will the Float32 mod work with the OL mod? The readme says that it might not work with any side mods but the Float32 is just a graphical improvement.

I've got Float32, Oblivion Lost v2.1.1 and the sharper textures pack all installed with the 1.005 patch without any problems so far. So you should be good.
I have a graphical glitch that's rather distracting, and I'm just wondering if anyone has the same thing.

Note how the lighting on the arm there is very blocky-looking and doesn't line up properly. The wrist especially looks bad. Is this some unique problem I'm having, or is the weapon model itself just messed up? This doesn't happen with any other weapons, just the SPSA-12 (yes, I know it's an SPAS-12 but they call it the SPSA in-game). I do have the float32 and S.H.A.R.P.E.R. Textures mods installed, but those screenshots were taken with them disabled.

Alright, so I just figured out I screwed up the continuity, thusly I never recieved a key from a Scientist at the Agropom Research Institute or whatever, thusly I could not go into Strelok's Hotel room later, thusly I could not decode that thinger, thusly I could not have one of the two real endings.
So I saw all the endings, but they don't make much sense, read something about the C-Conscious Project, was vague.
So can someone just fill me in? What is the C-Conscious project? What's the revelation with Strelok? And what other info do you find out about the zone?

In the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster, the Soviet Union decides to use the Exclusion Zone, often referred to in-game as ?The Zone?, for special research into the human mind. Results include enhanced ESP, psychic weapons, and the eventual formation of a hive mind known as the C-Consciousness.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the self-aware C-Consciousness takes control of the Zone and autonomously continues its research. It attemptes varying degrees of global mind control in an effort to bring about world peace. However, these attempts result in the unintentional twisting of the physical properties of the Zone and the mutation of resident life forms.
In an attempt to hide its existence from the outside world, the C-Consciousness erects a Monolith in the center of the Zone and brainwashes many people into worshipping the Monolith as an artifact of extra-terrestrial origin. In a further attempt to insulate itself, it constructs a device, known as the ?Brain Scorcher?, that traumatically interferes with brain-wave patterns, rendering anyone who approaches the surrounding area a mindless "zombie". As reports of valuable "artifacts" disseminate from explorers who venture into the zone, whispered rumors of a Wish Granter housed in the Sarcophagus of the Chernobyl NPP begin to spread.
A group of four Stalkers, Strelok, Ghost, Fang, and Doc, travel to the center of the Zone in an effort to reach the Wish Granter. After encountering the fanatical Monolith faction, the brainwashed guardians of the C-Consciousness, they are forced to retreat. Strelok is knocked unconscious and loses his memory. The others are able to escape the Zone, though Fang later dies of his wounds, and Ghost is killed by psi-emmisions.
The unconscious Strelok is discovered by the C-Consciousness, who, unaware of his identity, mistakenly brainwashes him to kill the stalker known as Strelok and his allies. On the way out of the Zone his truck is destroyed, and he is discovered, unconscious, by another passing stalker.
He is reunited with Doc who helps him piece together his past, prompting Strelok to return to the Zone and the Monolith. When Strelok eventually confronts the C-Consciousness, he is faced with a choice of joining it in its attempts to repair the Zone and bring about world peace or trying to stop the C-Consciousness from continuing its experiments. If the player chooses not to join the C-Consciousness, he is forced to battle the worshippers of the Monolith. When they are defeated, he destroys the equipment that sustains the C-Consciousness. Strelok is then seen standing in a grassy field, the Zone seemingly gone.

Seriously though, can someone explain to be the concept of a "blowout" in this game? What is being "blown out." Is it something to do with blowing the prevailing winds (of radiation) in a direction that is away from any forms of civilization?
I may have missed the reasoning, since it has been quite a while since I've played it, but either way...

In the OL mod, Blowouts were implemented that aren't in the vanilla game as far as I can remember. They occur every 3-4 days and, depending on how deep you are into the zone, vary in intencity. They start when you her a deep moaning sound and the sky turns red. Earthquakes then occur and a huge storm breaks out followed by more screams and hoaling. You have to run for cover in buildings or go underground otherwise you'll get fried from the radiation (or psi-emissions). All other stalkers and enemy NPCs will run for cover too. The mutants will try to hide but get hit by the radiation, though it's usually never enough to kill them. Once it finished more of them will spawn in the area.

The 25-minute video that came out recently shows that the player is discovered after surviving a blowout, something that very few people have actually done. There's a second one later on that he survives as well, and a third one causes all of his squad to die. Seems like the player might be immune, or at least resistant to their effects. They also may only occur in scripted situations.

What actually got released as STALKER wasn't even a tiny bit of that which was promised in the beginning. While they were developing they had an FAQ on their site which listed all features and possibilities the game would have and you could read it again and again and still not believe how awesome this game will be. After the third (or so) delay THQ put a lot of pressure on the dev team to release the game without any of the things they promised (which was just a realistic move on their part) and that's what we got to see: a pretty cool but watered and dumbed down ego shooter.
R.I.P. STALKER :(
(I don't know but if someone has the original FAQ could he / she post a link?)
