Friend of mine from work is going to jail for a while, but will continue working there through a work release, and I asked him if he had any computers or consoles he wanted to get some money for first.
So he has a laptop - about 3 years old, I could probably get for $100. It's got XP and a CD burner and that's about all I know. Do you think that is a fair deal?
Also, he has a 360 pro system he said he'd sell for about $150. So is that a good deal? I don't know what they cost now, but I'm guessing around $379 new.
He said he has like 3 stacks of games, which I'm guessing is around 15 games. I didn't ask him about the price for them.
He said he has the receipt and that it's about 2 months old and it works perfect and he'd let me try it out first.
Ok so how much should I offer for some games?
I hate consoles, but I've always kinda wanted a 360. Especially now so I can play Grand Theft Auto 4, and pick up some games - used, for dirt cheap.

I've been thinking of getting a 360 as well, at least over summer for when I move out. I will sit on the sidelines, monitoring the given advice.

$150 is more than worth it for a two-month-old Pro version. Just make sure he includes the hard drive :p

OK, yeah, I thought it was a good deal, but I'm worried about buying a used one you know. Although it's not like he was trying to peddle it. I asked him if he had one, then asked him if he wanted to sell it.
Anyway if it's really 2 months old, it's got the Falcon chipset, I'm guessing.
Does anyone know, If I buy one used, and it breaks somewhere down the line, Is it possible to bring it to GAmestop to have it repaired or used as a core exchange towards a working one or something? I really hate mailing things.

Not unless he bought a warranty from gamestop aswell.

Sounds good. Not too much need for a warranty, MS will cover it for a year for general faults and 3 years for RRoD, so 2 months off of that isn't much. See if you can give it a test run first, if he's going to jail I doubt there'll be any refunds. Besides that, sounds like a good deal.

Wasn't that only for the models manufactured in 2005?
Sounds good to me, so long as you're able to claim the warranty if it dies on you. I assume you can, but you never know if selling it to someone else violates it, so you might want to check just to be on the safe side\.

Wow. Big step for you. I thought you didn't like consoles? :p

No, all Xbox 360s are covered for three years for the RRoD.
As long as he gives you the receipt, you should have no problem having your 360 repaired.

it's one step away from:
"I'm sorry you have cancer but ..can I have your xbox?"
brilliant thread
btw what's he going in for and why would his employer keep him at the company? surely there's other less incarcirated people that could fill his shoes?

I haven't a met a person that had a xbox which didn't crap out on them. Their extended warranty only applies to the red ring of death, keep in mind these shitty made consoles tend to have a lot more issues with them which is why I would usually recommend staying far away from these consoles if they are used.
But if the system is really only 2 months old then that is one hell of a deal. I'm looking at an xbox myself and if I came by a deal like that I wouldn't be able to pass it up.

Yeah. I'm amazed at the type of employees here [at the slaughter house]
We work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week. (I"M ****ING TIRED)
there are about 20 prisoners carpooled in to work here daily.
Prisoners look exactly like a stereo-type prisoner. Extremely huge black dudes with tattoos on their gigantic monster arms (nearly as big as my waist).
On my shift, there are about 8 white people working there, about 60 Hispanic, and about 20 blacks.
anyway, the dude that is selling me the 360 is MS13. Certainly the most dangerous gang in the world - complete with MS13 tats on his arms, hands, and machete scars all over him from being 'jumped-in'. He seems really nice though, believe it or not.
He's sort of like a kid to me at only 19. I'm closer to his Dad's age.
Anyway he's always talking to me and I feel as though he looks up to me. I grew up around gangs and criminals when I was his age, so it's not a big deal to me, but I'm sure I don't want to be too close to him. Guilty by association you know.. and that goes for enemies as well as police/DEA.
For me, it seems pretty safe - like I said, I'm used to this shit. Besides, I'm going to be picking up the system and whatever else I'm buying from his grandmother.
However, He wasn't at work today - probably being processed. I'm sure he'll be back to work by the beginning of next week.
I really want to play Grand Theft Auto 4, so that's why I want the system now more than ever.
He only mentioned 2 games - fight night and NFS U. I'm a huge boxing fan, and I always wanted Fight Night, so I'll get that one. I asked him to make a list of all his games.
So what is a good deal for the games? I was thinking probably $20 or $25 dollars each. Maybe 30 if it's a brand new game.

if you don't have a receipt for when you bought it, can you still have it repaired? Since MS extended their warranty to three years, shouldn't any xbox be covered since they only introduced it three years ago? How would I go about getting it repaired for RROD?

Go to Xbox.com and find the customer support number.
Then have a lovely chat with 'Max'

That's weird. I have yet to meet somebody who has had 360 crap out on them or have any fatal issues whatsoever.

Mine had a fatal issue, but it was my fault. I dropped it while it was going, so that doesn't count. And, yes, 150 is a good deal. I saw used ones at Gamecrazy for 210, I think.

Sounds like a pretty good deal assuming he still has the receipt.

I wouldn't buy it IF I had the money to spare to get a new one. Then again, I wouldn't get a 360 in the first place, but that's just my personal preference though.
360s aren't exactly known for their "robust durability" either even when they are brand new. Getting a used one might be a little tricky, especially for $150. Does you friend generally take good care of his stuff?
