I finally got access to a helicopter I got to keep after the mission was over. My first order of business was to see if I could save it in the 2 car-length spots you're given outside of your hideouts.

The first attempt, I was setting it down nice and easy. There is almost no room for error in this particular spot. There is a tree at the front of the spot and an awning at the back. As I was setting it down I chopped off the rotors on the tree and dropped the last few feet missing the spot. So I got out and grabbed somebody's car to push it in to place. Go inside, save, come out - VOILA! My OWN chopper! VICTORY!

Obviously I'm going to use this thing almost exclusively until I blow it up, so I'm going to go hang out with one of my contacts, Packie. Luckily he's waiting for me in relatively open intersection. I land and he jumps in, "This shit is fancy Niko! America has really gotten to you, huh?" We go see a show (I just land in the center of the street, blocking traffic).

When I go to take him home, I notice Packie's house is almost like a fortress against helos. Over the street are raised train tracks and the only way I can get under those tracks is to shoot a small gap in the trees, stay under the bridge and over a fence. Then I have to land without clipping too many lamps along the way. Seriously, if you could see this it's like a tiny little entrance with barely enough clearance for a chopper.

Anyways. I manage to get in and get out with only cutting down 2 lamp posts and bumping in to the fence I had to clear. But now my chopper is beeping alarm at me as if it's about to blow/crash. I sweep the camera around, seeing no sign of damage, smoke or fire and shrug it off. I fly back to my hideout to save the chopper in my space again.

As I'm coming in for a landing, this time I clip the tail section on the awning. THE ENTIRE tail section gets SHEARED off. My helo spins as it falls a short distance to the ground and the rotors are also sheared off. I push the helo into the space again and go up to save.

The helo wasn't saved this time...the game doesn't want me to be happy :(

Now I'm off to search for another one.

By the way Amish, since I have your attention here - have you seen a replay option as in the previous GTAs? Like where you go into the menu, select replay and it just shows you the last 30 seconds or so of gameplay, not that it neccesarily lets you save them or anything (although this would be awesome). Asked in the old thread but not sure if you caught it.

There's no replay feature that I see. I didn't even know it existed in the other GTAs. :(

Don't know about GTA 3, but it was definitely in SA and I'm sure I remember it in VC. Like I said, it was just a basic review of the last 20-30 seconds, nothing too special. Maybe we can hope for a replay save/share feature ala Halo 3 with the DLC. :)

Not a GTAIV story, but a San Andreas one.

I have taken to simply observing the AI in action for a while so that I can really appreciate it in GTAIV.

So I shot a motorcyclist in the head while he was stopped on a level crossing. An ambulance careened in, hitting cars as it went, before finally side-swiping the pavement, running over a woman. The ambulance driver jumps out and first resurrects the woman he ran over, then heads over to the motorcyclist I shot. When he leans down to resurrect him, the woman he previously ran over came up behind him and started punching him. He tried to fight back but she had the upper hand. She killed him, then calmly walked over to the ambulance. She got in the drivers seat, drove about two yards.

Then a freight train thundered through, blowing up the ambulance, the motorbike and leaving but three blood stains.

It was hilarious.

Also, I was driving along the Las Venturas motorway when I saw a forklift truck, an incredibly rare vehicle. So I jumped out and jacked it. I drove in front of a police SUV who braked to a sudden halt. His sudden braking caused the car behind him to smash into the back of him. Both policemen got out and proceeded to brutally kill the driver of the car behind. Meanwhile, I forklifted the police car up and then got out of the vehicle to see how the police would react to not being able to get back into their vehicle. One of them got run over by another car, frightened by the gunshots whilst the other got into the forklift truck.

He then proceeded to - according, I presume, to his AI - drive the forklift round like it was an SUV, chasing me when I shot at him with a sniper rifle.

It was likewise hilarious.

Ok, I just got out of a REALLY cool ranked Cops n Crooks game with about 14-16 players.

We started as cops and the first 30-45 seconds were extremely laggy. I didn't know wtf was going on because our car kept warping everywhere and people were disappearing from our car. After an uneventful first death, I spawned in the street, searched for a vehicle, found one, pulled the driver out, was about to step in and it disappears...wtf. So I sprint around, find another car, get in and speed off. I check my map - most of my team is clustered around most of the crooks team just mindlessly killing eachother with the exception of 6 crooks speeding away with the boss. I take my Cavalcade (Escalade) and head north towards the boss.

I pass through the carnage of the bulk of both teams fighting in the streets, running over a cop and 2 crooks along the way. I'm heading north, corning well and dodging traffic - all the while gaining ground. On the way, I see a lone crook that seems to have damaged his car enough that he needs a new one. He's on foot, jacking a Coquette (Corvette). I open fire, landing some hits as he's opening the driver's door to remove its previous occupant. I absolutely CRUSH him driving at top speed, breaking off the door and probably killing that poor pedestrian, oh well. 1 down, 5 to go.

A little further along the way north across the entire length of Algonquin I see a second crook that seems to be horrible at driving because I came across him seeing a fire hydrant spouting water and a lot of partially damaged cars all the while he is facing the wrong way. He sees me and starts reversing away, trying to fire at me. I open fire on him. He clips me once or twice, but the bulk of my SMG fire turns his windshield bloody as his car slows to a halt. 2 down, 4 to go.

By this time I'm nearly to the northern edge of the island. I pull into a lot that the boss and his escort has JUST pulled into. I see them hopping a tall fence. I jump out, sprint to the fence, jump it, fall on the other side right as the 4th guy falls as well (20 feet or so to my right). I ignore him because I see the boss icon is pretty much on the water. I see a crook running towards stairs that lead to their getaway boat. I cut him down with headshots from my SMG. Now the crook that had landed by me must have noticed me. I run to the stairs to see a speedboat beginning to accelerate away, one man in the driver's seat and one man standing in it facing me and firing. The boss icon and crook icon of the two in the boat are so close I can't tell, but the standing guy in the boat has a different suit on so he must be the boss. I lock on to him quickly and unload. Both the fence guy and the boss standing in the boat are firing at me with their pistols while I'm on full auto with my SMG (crooks only start with pistols) as the boat picks up speed, putting more distance between us. I manage to kill the boss JUST as I get killed. I rejoice over the mic while my whole team and the bulk of the crooks go, "WTF just happened? Did we win?"...Retards.

That was round 1.

I'd write up round 2 but I have to get ready for class.

My friend was on a bike, burning down a highway towards central Liberty City, I'm in a army 'copter behind him, tearing up the concrete just centimeters away from his back tire. He tries to duck into one of those loonnnnng New York like streets away from me but I'm right behind him, nose diving underneath traffic lights until he 180's and slides RIGHT underneath my chopper blades, ala that James Bond scene.

I'm not lying - the helicopters are surprisingly easily to control, they just take a little getting use to, but they haven't really changed since VC.

Nosediving, or just dying the rotors down, drops you down to earth really fast. I've been mucking around in the helicopters all afternoon.

EDIT: Just played Bomb the Base II with three friends. You gotta rob this armoured truck then take the explosives to a boat docked in the harbour. You get a helicopter half way in so I dropped off two guys onto the deck then I hovered alongside the deck whilst my other mate gave supporting AK47 fire out the side. We cleared the deck in no time, I dropped off the guy in the 'copter, they went inside, planted the bomb then met me at the top of the boat for pick up just seconds before it blew up.

This game is awesome.

I said this before but imagine the Halo 3 Theater mode in GTA. Christ, that'd be the icing on the cake, wouldn't it?

I just played some free roam with a friend of mine. We were holed up in an alley pretty much back to back covering opposite entrances. We had a solid 10 minute spree, I got my wanted level up to 6 stars and held it for a while. Then my friend used one of the rockets he saved for NOOSE vans only blew a cop car into the alley killing me. With NOOSE members pouring in from both sides he lasted a good 10 seconds :P

I did the taxi mission for the guy who introduces the pay-n-spray.


I pull up to his destination, he thanks me, gets out...

RANDOM ASS FAGGIO FLIES OUT OF ****ING NOWHERE AND SPRAYS THE POOR DUDE ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY CAR.

I chased the guy down the stairs, putting a few pistol rounds into his back and I see he's going for the Banshee at the bottom of the stairs. I slug a few more rounds into him but I'm still near the top of the stairs. He gets in and pulls off just as I reach the bottom. There I am, firing hopelessly with the pistol with my remaining 6 rounds in the magazine when suddenly the car swerves, knocks down a lampost and rolls into a wall down the street, and in the silence, the only thing I can hear is a car horn being pressed down. I run over and there's one single bullet round through the back window, blood all sprayed up the front and the guys head on the steering wheel.

Short, but awesome.

So far, the AI in this game has been pretty good. I got a 3 star wanted level and was sitting at the dead end of an alley behind a dumpster waiting for the cops to flush in. And sure enough, they came, but where in most other games you could simple pick them off one by one as long as you had enough ammo as they all come through the same entrance, I was surprised when I got shot at from behind. Some other coppers were standing on the roof behind me, shooting at me from above. Later some appeared on yet another roof.

This reminds me of something happened during the free-roam rampage my friend and I had yesterday.

We made ourselves a small, defensible position by boxing in a small area in Times Square with 4-5 cars, at the center was a weapon spawn to keep our gunfire going. We were calling out approaching cop cars and NOOSE vans to each other so we could adjust positions as needed.

One time, two cop cars were on the scene. One had already reached us and the cops hopped out and opened fire from behind their open doors. I aim for the one that was still approaching and start shooting through the windshield. I see blood spatter on the drivers side as he was slowing to a stop. But...just after I shot him, his dead foot must've hit the gas because he tore off, veering to the right a little. He practically t-boned the other cop car, crushing the cop just outside the driver's side and pushing the empty vehicle over the other cop.

Talk about killing 3 birds with one stone :)

Ahahah, just finished a mission where you're in a bike chase. So as usual the guys way out in front and I'm getting the normal crap of traffic turning out on me, accident caused by the guy I'm chasing etc etc.

So we're going up a small hill where unbeknownst to me the road dips. Now, because we're going so damn fast we're going to take off a bit. I see him do it about 3 seconds before I get there. Unfortunately for me a car was coming right at me. I hit the hill, went up, DROVE UP THE GUYS MOTHER****ING WINDSHIELD and done the most sublime backflip about 25 feet in the air, landed it and eventually caught the guy and iced him. Ohhh baby.

Was just wandering the streets, soaking up the atmophere, when I see a police car parked down a back alley. Seeing as the game is a little more difficult than the previous ones, I'd only had a police car a couple of times so I took my chance to jack it. Just as I grab the handle, I hear a shout and I am crushed by a body falling from the sky. I look up thinking "WTF?" but don't see anything. On the stairs, I meet a policeman. This cop had just chucked a guy from the top of the building. What a badass! And I wasn't even around to see it!


Possibly one of the best game moments of my life! :E

It wasn't quite as pitch perfect as my story made out, it sort of hit the car and a flailing leg knocked me backwards a bit.

It was still the best random AI I've ever seen in a game ever.

I'm not sure what happened but I was driving past a petrol station when I hear a huge explosion, so I sit around and see what happens then this ambulance comes speeding down the hill towards the petrol station to revive some people that got caught in the blast. He smacks into the side of another car pushing it into another petrol pump blowing them both up, some cars got damaged in the blast, tried to speed off and they drove into another pump :D

Then it went all quiet so I drove off down the road, and about 5 seconds later I hear another explosion at the petrol station, not sure what happened again. It was pretty crazy xD

Walked around a corner and saw a pedestrian face plant off the ledge above right in front of me. Got right back up, pulled out an umbrella and walked away.

In Team Mafiya, all four of us got in a car, and wiped out the entire other team in a driveby.

In Free Roam, a guy is in a parked car, just sitting there. I shoot at him for a few seconds, then I hear this guy laughing. He then gets out of the car, and I see he has a rocket launcher. Shit. I try to run, but next thing I know i'm launched in the air, my corpse landing on a roof. He laughs as he drives away.

I got pwned and loved it.

I had a match of cops n crooks the other day. I was the boss and I managed to find grenades before jumping into a car and driving away with my allies (it was 4v4). I started dropping grenades as the enemy cop car got close while everybody else was peppering the enemy's car with bullets. Our car was getting pretty torn up too. I cooked my last grenade to my liking and dropped it as I took a corner on to a long bridge. I see the cops handbrake sliding to make the turn as the grenade explodes DIRECTLY beneath the car. The car goes flipping into the air off to the side throwing burning cop bodies as it sails :)

He neglects the disarm move and just beats the shit out of Dardan until he drops the knife keeling over.

The guy is limping away clutching his arm asking for mercy. My roommate's knife slices are passing right over Dardan, so I say, "Just kick him or something". He kicks Dardan THROUGH the f*cking window and Dardan falls to his death.

He's already done a few other things that were unexpected or different from the way I played it, so it's pretty cool to watch him find these alternate paths.

When I played that mission I disarmed him and cut him up until he fell to the ground with no hp but still alive. When I walked out I had the rear-cam on and I saw him stand up and bolt out of the other door.

I wanted to play with the Euphoria physics so I went ahead and busted the windows myselfs. Pushed him out, he falls back onto the ledge below and tripped, then fell to his watery death. God I love this shit.


I've been spending the past hour playing around with diving out of cars and watching the hilarious physics. Going full speed in a Banshee and dove out right into the grill of a ****ing taxi cab. Niko wrapped around it I swear.

My mate was watching me t'other night just dicking around. I jacked someones car but it wasn't looked upon kindly, so a couple of people ran up to me and started swinging their fists. After managing to put one guy down for good, the others started really slapping me around, until an ambulance came racing through the scene to get to the guy I'd smacked up and smashed all of my aggressors to hell. It was beautiful, I almost shed a tear at the wonderful rain of bodies.

Then I laughed very, very hard. :D

So, Roman calls me up about hanging out. We ended up going to that Beer Garden place. Well, needless to say, we were both completely waisted. We were stumbling around falling down and running into random pedestrians on the way back to the car. We come to this stair set and Roman stumbles into me knocking both of us down the stairs. By this time I was pretty hurt, and right before we get to the car, Roman stumbles off of a ledge and I see, "Your friend was Injured" at the bottom of the screen. I turn around and Roman is keeled over a pool of blood. Needless to say, he didn't ride home with me.

Call me a nutjob, but I'm actually standing upon a skyscraper right now, gazing out into the aftersoon pondering really seriously about what to do - kill Dwayne, or kill Playboy? Both are fantastic characters and I'm actually having trouble deciding on how I'm going to play my next move. I haven't done anything yet, I just got off the phone to Dwayne who wanted me to kill Playboy but no mission select has come up, so maybe I won't kill either but man, this is a weird feeling.

I feel bad for Dwayne and the shit he's going through, but then Playboy, for someone who seems to have quite a lot, isn't an arrogant jerk who is riding high on life and money, he actually says he wants to do good things with the money but shit, I really don't know who I'll go for...

It's so awesome that the game has got to me like that.

Really interesting to hear these stories, everyone seems to have their own and rarely are repeated, such is testament to the variety and how expansive this game is. Unfortunately my purchase of a 360 and GTAIV is still yet to arrive (meant to come tomorrow) but I've just got confirmation it's only just been posted. Means this bank holiday weekend is going to be Goldrush full and GTAIV - less :(

Not so much a story as a funny little incident.

Roman had given me a call to go to a titty bar, and I happy accepted. I drove up to the other part of the city to make it there, and we went inside. I was getting a private show in the back, and once it was done I figured I wanted to go get up close and personal with one of the pole dances. So I climbed up to the stage and suddenly everybody started running and screaming, and security started approaching me with fists and angry faces. My screen said to leave the Club. So I did... me and Roman ran outside and to the car... with security in pursuit. Roman asked me to take him back home, and I did...

Once I was there, was the funny part. I parked near a car which blocked his exit(I wasn't aware of this, because it looked like he could get out). He was chatting me up and said how much of a great time he had, and how we should do it again. Then he punched me in the face saying, "Give me that back!" scooting into the drivers seat and pushing me out of the car... then he exited and went inside.

It was hilarious!

Heh, I had a very difficult time with a timed mission, had to deliver a package in 25 "minutes" and I kept running late. But then it hit me: I was too damn reliant on the GPS system, I remember the tutorial saying that it gives you "the shortest legitimate route, but not necessarily the fastest". I didn't realize that until midway my latest run, and I already crashed into a wall so I was never gonna make it. I decide to just point my car into the direction of my destination and just hit the gas. Shortly after, I got stuck on a wall with my car so I jumped out, jumped over concrete railings, ran across the highway and delivered the package just in time. The moral here is: think outside of the box (of your GPS system).

Probably a little late now, but...

I killed Dwayne first without giving it much thought. A little later I was checking my emails and I found an old email from him - saying how he's a little lonely these days and if we'd hang out or something. I clicked reply and Niko's all - "Shit, I'm so sorry." :o

Filled with regret I reloaded my last save and went for Playboy instead, and when you do go to get him you see what a tosser the guy really is. You get given Playboys' old apartment, Dwayne becomes your friend, and after a couple of drinks you get the ability to call him up and he'll send a couple of guys your way to back you up. They're pretty useful at drawing fire and finishing off targets when things get crazy.

Edit - Oh, and once you get Playboys penthouse, there's a nice little easter egg that gets added to your outfits. :D

Just had a major wtf moment.

On my way to pick up a package in Beechwood to deliver for Little Jacob, jacked a speedboat and sent it hurtling into the streets of Stenway I think. Jack a truck, guy jumped out with a baseball bat and ran away screaming. I drove away and rammed another car. The driver jumped out and spontaneously combusted and ran around screaming in pain.

Guys, help me to understand what just happened here.

Heh, I had a very difficult time with a timed mission, had to deliver a package in 25 "minutes" and I kept running late. But then it hit me: I was too damn reliant on the GPS system, I remember the tutorial saying that it gives you "the shortest legitimate route, but not necessarily the fastest". I didn't realize that until midway my latest run, and I already crashed into a wall so I was never gonna make it. I decide to just point my car into the direction of my destination and just hit the gas. Shortly after, I got stuck on a wall with my car so I jumped out, jumped over concrete railings, ran across the highway and delivered the package just in time. The moral here is: think outside of the box (of your GPS system).
I'm trying to ween myself off of the GPS. In Saint's Row the GPS was necessary since everything was so similar you could hardly tell the streets apart, but in this everything is very distinct and easy to recognise, there are little landmarks everywhere to remind you of where you are. I can already find my way around most of the first island by memory, and I'm already getting used to the second having just arrived there. Of course, I'll still use a waypoint if it's a non-timed mission and I want to chill back and listen to the radio. :)

On my way to pick up a package in Beechwood to deliver for Little Jacob, jacked a speedboat and sent it hurtling into the streets of Stenway I think. Jack a truck, guy jumped out with a baseball bat and ran away screaming. I drove away and rammed another car. The driver jumped out and spontaneously combusted and ran around screaming in pain.

Guys, help me to understand what just happened here.

Just remembered this: was in free roam with some of you whores t'other day, cruising around in a helicopter with... I forget who, Amish or someone. We're crossing the river between Broker and Algonquin and I decide I'll ditch and drop into the water. Little did I know my guy would fall out at a FOURTY-****ING-FIVE DEGREE ANGLE. I shoot right past the river and smack into the side of this tall building, probably about half-way up the thing (also failed to take into account that we were really damn high). I lose most of my health from the collision, but my guy gets partially stuck in the wall or something, so now I'm very slowly sliding down the side of this huge building, face flat against the glass and arms akimbo like I'm Wiley Coyote or something, and my guy just sort of peels off and crumples into a heap when he reaches the bottom, somehow still alive.

tl;dr: I leapt from a helicopter at close to if not maximum height, faceplanted into and slid half-way down a skyscraper and lived to tell the tale. Ignoring the fact I got myself killed in traffic roughly 7 seconds later...

I set up a few cars in a busy intersection and then parked my flaming SUV in the midst of them. A few seconds later they blew up one by one in huge Michael Bay fashion. A cab pulled up and tried to drive through the flames because he had some people in back that he was dropping off somewhere. The cab catches fire and the people scramble to get out but they catch on fire too and they roll around until the cab explodes.

An ice cream truck also blew up in the pile leaving me a bunch of cash. I only wish it was a Gruppe Sechs truck--I blew one up the other day and got LOADS of cash from it.

I just had a classic GTA moment. :D

I went to the airport to find the legendary baggage cart. I drove in, crashed through the barriers, did a powerslide, jumped out the car and got me a baggage cart. Hurray! So, in a moment of happiness, I decided to start driving around the airport.

Looking down at my radar I noticed that there are about 5 police cars heading my way. Whaaa? So I looked at the HUD and, oh my, FOUR STARS! All I did was innocently drive a baggage car around an airport and now the cops were coming to cap my ass. D:

In a moment of undeterred bravery, I wanted to get my baggage car from the airport to my apartment with 10 cop cars chasing me and a helicopter trying to shoot me down. I somehow managed to survive the entire journey and reached the street where my apartment is located. About 10 feet away from the door a cop car careers into my apartment's door blocking my way into the building.

Needless to say, I died. :(

Well I beat the game. The first time through I was pretty sure I made the right decisions at the end. After that I went back to check out the other ending and I'm sure of it now.

Never before has a game made me think so much about what I want to choose.

Just managed to escape a 6-star wanted level on free roam with a mate. :D It was pretty epic.

We were holed up in an apartment building just round the corner from Playboy's penthouse, gunning down everybody who came up the stairs.

We eventually managed to rack up 6-stars, and pushed our way down through the stairwell to the ground floor. During a little lull in the fighting, we both sprinted outside into the open as a few more SWAT trucks pulled up, and jumped into one of the bullet-ridden police cars from earlier. Only made it round the corner before a bunch of other police cars rammed us off the road. We both got out and legged it down some stairs into a subway station.

About 10 minutes of epic fighting in the station followed, fighting off the police from both sides from on the platform. Ran out of ammo pretty quickly, and decided to leg it down the tracks, picking off the few that followed us. In the end we had to run all the way to Bohan from Algonquin via the subway tunnel to shake them. :p

<3 this game.

Oh and speaking of epic, anyone done the 'Three Leaf Clover' mission for Packie yet? Probably one of the best missions I've ever played, in any game.

I ran down a subway tunnel just before to escape a four-star wanted level. Surprisingly creepy... walking through in the dark, the light at the end gradually dissapearing... the lights flickering on and off... sparks falling from the ceiling... and that ominous rumbling in the distance that you could swear was getting louder, to the point where you're checking behind you every 3 seconds or so.

Finally came into the station, about five seconds before the trains pulled up on either side of the tracks at the same time. D:

Which reminds me I still need to try and push a hobo onto the tracks at just the right moment. :D

Which also reminds me... is it just me, or do the homeless guys occasionally yell "CHEESY VAGINAS!" at you? If so, that's awesome.

Yeah, I escaped a 4 star wanted level this afternoon by legging it through a subway tunnel. I didn't want to, I actually wanted to come out at a station and continue the fighting but eventually the circle ended. I tell you what though, as BadHat said, the subway lines are really eerie. Surprisingly detailed, too, considering it's a place that it's going to be that important to the game. Stumbled across a crack den/hobo slum the other day, was pretty scary.

The most fun I've had yet is playing hide-and-seek with the cops at 6 stars. I'm still early in the story and on the first island but I just get a nice car and ramp it up the stairway under the Algonquin bridge and I get to the other side (no road block like above). I like the heat. :)

A couple hours(in game) later, I got a phone call from him asking to be picked up from the hospital. Heh.

The funniest thing just happened. I was going on a Subway for a mission and this homeless guy asks me for some change, so instead of just walking away I punched him onto the subway tracks, and the train hit him and he did a huge front flip and landed on top of the train dead.

Anyway, i was driving through my home town this past week and i came to a intersection where there is 2 lanes that continue straight through the light, and a lane on the left for turning. I'm approaching the light (which was green) but the left lane turn signal was red. I'm coming up to the light when both lanes are covered by two slow ass drivers. Without even thinking i push the gas pedal down and swerve into the left lane, pass the car in the closest lane and then swerve back into the straight right before hitting oncoming traffic.

I approached the next light and came to a stop. And finaly realized what i did. I couldn't believe i got a way with it.

Was just driving around on Bohan and accidentally ran over a cop. Cue 3 star police chase.

First epic thing that happened was they set up a road block on East Borough Bridge. Before I got to it, a police car going at top speed towards me from the opposite side of the road block, hit the road-block, took off and did an in-line twist before landing on its wheels behind me. How I lol'd.

I smashed through the road block and continued along the road. About 300 yards down the road was a second road block, so I threw them off the scent by taking a sudden right turn across the rest of East Borough Bridge and towards the centre island. The police had lost sight of me!

Sensing victory, I rocketed down the road. Ignored the first intersection, planning to take a left next to Middle Park and head all the way down the city and grab a helicopter. However, I looked at my minimap and to the left was a police road block. And to the right there were two patrol cars heading for the bridge where I was last seen. So, T-junction: can't go left, can't go right. What do I do? Straight down the middle!

My car hit a two foot high wall, I was flung through the windscreen and flew for about 100 yards and landed in the Middle Park lake, losing my wanted status in the process.

It was awesome.

I was playing free roam yesterday with a couple of you guys (Tyguy and Psycho mainly) and we were all up above the skyscrapers in helicopters. Then one of you guys...and I don't KNOW who yet...swiped my chopper and sheared my tail rotor off and I went into spiral mode. I had no control except for staying up, as I had half a chopper :( As I struggled with the controls, they had a 2nd swipe at me this time shearing off my main rotor blade. Needless say it was a LONNNNNNG way down...

The one problem with freeroam is the lack of a plan of "what to do". So it's all always just random chaos, which is fine, but it'd be nice sometimes to play with some of you guys and have a set plan, like barricading a particular intersection and duking it out with police for as long as we can, using cover and shit.

I have sooo much fun in multiplayer fighting the police, I don't know why.

I was just playing cops n crooks with a friend. We finally found worthy opponents (our team happened to suck ass though).

We were playing One for All and were approaching the area where the crooks were about to escape. 3 crooks were already piled onto the boat and two more were running to it. I know an SMG isn't going to cut it to take them down from a distance so I glance quickly at my map looking for a sniper rifle or rockets. Luckily I was already heading right at a rocket spawn. I crash next to it, jump out, grab it and pull up my aim. I fire a rocket and blow the boat up just as the last two guys were getting close to it. I get 5 kills instantly and watch the bodies fly :D

Man, this weekend has been full of GTA awesomeness for me :D

We had so many standout moments, but one of the best was deciding to become a pirate (yes, a pirate).

We jacked a motorboat and were cruising around the coast, when all of a sudden we spot a sailboat far away. We thought "I wonder if we could take that?" so we sped up to it and drove along side it. We stopped the boat, jumped out towards the sailboat, caught the handrailing and pulled ourselves aboard. We shot the guy driving who fell off the boat into the water, then found out to our delight that we could drive it :D

To top it all off, the guy had put on some mad freestyle jazz.

Can you steal the tug boats in this game?

Last night, Shamrock our irl friend S3V3NS and myself geared up with assault rifles, body armor, shotguns and bazookas and barricaded ourselves in the Burger Shot in Times square. It started out pretty hectic with loads and loads of squad cars pulling up. With three people and only 3 stars at the moment, it seemed like guarding two doors wasn't going to be a problem. Once SWAT vans started pulling up things got a little rough. Luckily there was a health pack outside the left entrance that was keeping us up and running. The SWAT members running in with shotguns was cutting us down rather quick. We had been on 4 stars for quite some time when Shamrock runs out the left entrance to get the health pack, when a SWAT member hiding just around the corner blows his face off, leaving S3V3NS and myself alone in the Burger Shot. Moments after Shamrock dies we reach 5 stars. Funny enough, 5 stars was rather easy. It was almost as if we killed every cop in Liberty City. The streets were empty, other then about 20-25 blown up SWAT vans and cruisers. Eventually more start to show up. Were running from door to door covering each others backs and running to get health every so often. After about 5 minutes or so, we did it. We reached 6 stars. Mass amounts of cops just walking into the Burger Shot opening fire. We were trapped in the back towards the bathroom doors at this point. We were completely out of rockets and assault ammo. Pistols for long range and shotguns for up close. Bullets flying everywhere, were getting hit from all angles. Somehow we manage to clear all the cops out. But just as we do, more are pulling up. At this point we were both at blinking red health, and the pack had not re spawned yet. Frantically running from door to door, S3V3NS is cut down after getting stuck in the doorway. I was left all alone in the Burger Shot, only to be face raped moments after.
We had survived a good 10-15 minutes on 6 stars. Best stand off of my life. pure amazing.

Something which never gets old. Get a fast car, get 3 stars, get grenades, press B to change to grenades while in car, hold LB to cook grenades, let go of LB to drop grenades after 1 bleep, watch the cop cars go flying all over the place.

The fantastic thing which R* have done with grenades is calculate how the impact damage affects cars. For example, if one goes off just behind you but doesn't set you on fire the end of your car will crumple...and I mean really fold up up. This change in the car shape will occassionally completely bend the axel or jam the wheels so they can't even turn. It feels hugely realistic when driving too...the car really huffs and puffs. I pretty much took out the entire back of a moonbeam van yesterday. Driving it around was like hauling around a hippo by it's nostrils.

Free roam. One person in attack helicopter. Two people in a sports car. Epic chase around Algonquin with the copter pilot edging through buildings and doing fly-bys with the gatling gun, while the driver in the car tries to give them the slip and the other guy unloads on the chopper from the passenger seat.

The way he deliverd it while shoting at a cop car was cool. Like nothing bothers him.

Was chasing two dudes on a motorcycle... and I shot one of the guys... he fell off his bike and hit me dead on. For once I didn't fly off my bike along with him, and I kept on going through full speed as he tumbled off me and behind. It was hilarious.

Man, me and four mates played some awesome custom game free roam earlier. We were just messing about most of the time - nosediving with the chopper into people on the ground so that they go flying, shooting out tires, boat racing but we had some awesome stand offs against NOOSE teams. I tell you, there's something really rewarding about swooping in with the police 'copter and getting all your team off the ground alive and well as bullets are pinging down all around you.

Had some pretty long lasting stand offs down in the third island industrial estates, the only problem was was that we weren't coordinated with our weapons. It's all good and well all of us shooting down on cop cars but someone has to be holding the staircases for when the NOOSE teams start assaulting. No time to get annoyed though as it was all so awesome.

So glad I know how to get into the PROPER free roam now. It was kinda rubbish in the lobby - I thought that was the free roam, but being able to edit all the things like weather, pedestrians, etc is awesome.

Pegorino's Pride

This god damn mission has pissed me off sooo much. First off, I fliped the ****ing car about four times before getting anywhere close to the real mission area. THat's four retries about. Then the first time I did the shootout, I didn't get to Pegorino in time, and he died. That pissed me off. The next time I got to pegorino and killed the guys, I was driving behind the car shooting at it and it ****ing caught on fire. Package destroyed, mission over... I'm about to ****ing crush my Xbox 360. This last time, I'm on the mission and ****ing... The bad guys get out of the car, but I fail running over the guy with the package... I chase after him and wtf... pegorino is dead...

I hijacked a random car off the road, then I saw it was a Dillitante (spelling?), that hybrid car that has all these radio ads for it. I didn't know it was actually in the game, but the funny thing was that the guy I jacked it from was this typical environmentalist San Francisco-ish hippy.

I was in a sentinel(might be the trick car, because I haven't had this happen any other time), and 5 times in a row I hit an oncoming car dead on, the passenger came out on fire.

Either it's a bug, or they modeled it since some cars can cause fires pretty easily up near the dash(though not lighting people on fire unless they stay in there).

Assassin mission: I ran up and slapped a carbomb under the target's car before he got in. Drove around the block and called for pizza; target eliminated.

Drug Trafficking for Jacob: I pull up to the stash point and 4 rival gangsters show up (two more in a car). Being that I'm almost dead already, I jump back into the rust bucket and lunge foward, but a sharp turn in the ally prevents my escape, so I through the car into reverse. The enemies in the other car get out and open fire. I must be going about 40MPH when I ram the car, as the enemy on the passenger side gets knocked down. As he goes to get up, the cars door kills him. Sadly, the on gangster with a combat shotgun got a good shot and killed me.

I finally unlocked the carbine and decided to have a Hospital Massacre.
I rear-end a parked ambulance to attempt to create a roadblock(which didn't work right)
Jumped out of my Landstalker, spotted a nurse leaning against the hospital wall, pulled out the rifle and lit her up. A red Huntley Sport comes to a halt and two gangsters get out. One ducks behind the front fender while I pop the passenger 5 times. The driver blind fires over the truck, and I run behind a wall to reload. A cop standing on the corner sees the driver and believes he killed the nurse, so he draws his handgun. Hoping he may help me out, I put a round right through the cops head, gaining me two stars. Still, the gang member continued to fire upon me, until a cop car came racing down a hill and plowed into him. One cop was launched from the car, and I opened fire on the cop still inside. Up to 3 stars now, and two more cop cars come drifting around the corner, one stops short of my truck, the other races up and stops a few inches away. I equip my pump shotgun and blind fired towards the windscreen, killing both cops after two shots. A N.O.O.S.E. truck lumbered onto the scene, as well as 4 more cop cars. Not about to lose my carbine, I roll behind the wrecked ambulance, and crouch walk to the back. As soon as I poke my head around the corner, a hail of bullets pass through me, killing me instantly.

Got out of the hospital with my carbine still intact!

Besides the cool dynamic situations you can get yourself into with fire and explosions and guns, the best thing I have ever seen in a video game was through the cinematic view while I was being chased by a cop. It was a low, orthographic angle of this cop and I about to collide. Then a pedestrian car pulled int front of the camera, and I could kind of see what was going on through his windows, but I had mostly a clear view of his face and his hands on the wheel.

When the cop smashed into me, the guy in the car in the foreground seriously got a surprised look on his face and looked into his rear view mirror at the accident behind him. It was intense. Here's an mspaint attachment to show you what I mean.

I was free roaming with this one guy and we grabbed as much health armor and MP5 ammo as possible and went to the airport. Then we grabbed one of those tractor/cart things (which go oddly fast btw) and started our rampage. Eventually we had 2 cops chasing us, so he was driving while I was shooting at one of the cop cars. I must have shot the cop in the head or in the tire because all of the sudden he just broke left right into a gas station that exploded and flipped the other cop car over! Man it was the most epic thing ever! I thought I was in an action movie.

Had the cops coming after me before, they had me cornered at an intersection and I was taking cover behind a statue just popping them off as they came, trying not to let them close in on me. There's at least 3 cop cars and a couple of N.O.O.S.E vans sitting there, but at this point I'm all out of rockets and grenades, so just blowing them all up isn't an option... or is it? I spot a helicopter closing in overhead and pull out my sniper rifle. Just as I aim up at him, though, he leans backwards to come to a halt, blocking my view into the front of the cockpit... until I realise I can still see him through the glass beneath his feet. I fire off a couple of shots through the glass and he comes barrelling (literally) down onto the cop blockage, taking two cars out immediately and setting a firey chain reaction in progress which eventually destroys everything trapping me in, allowing me to finally escape.

... If that cop hadn't snuck up on me with a shotgun at the last second, that is. :(

Man, I just had a mission play out perfectly and I didn't even plan it to go so smoothly.

First, I ambushed the two cars I was tailing to kill with the same formula I always use - get up close, put some well placed rounds into the tyres then back out of the immediate area to get some good distance for another pass. I won't mention who was in the cars or why but yeah, I emptied a uzi magazine into both the cars then got out of there. I didn't expect the guys to all be toting uzis themselves though, so as I'm speeding away I'm getting peppered by about 6 weapons all at once until eventually my car screams to a halt, fire blazing from the wheels.

I dive out and manage to pull a forward roll off from the door just as the first car tries to run me down. They bump into my flaming-wheeled wreck and casually step out as I run to cover. I took LOADS of damage running but I get behind a taxi, pistol out, but I've got about the eqivilent of 10% health left.

I'm down behind the bonnet of this car, blind firing randomly as they slowly approach the taxi putting ALL of their weapons into. I'm soon crouched behind what looks like a block of cheese, it's got that many holes in it. I crouch back in for a reload dredding having to restart the mission when all of a suddenly theres this huge explosion and four bodies are sent hurtling into the sky. My car has detonated and it turns out there car was parked right beside it. To add to the awe of it all, as I'm leaving cover one of the bodies falls from it's ascent and lands on the bonnet of the taxi with a crash then slowly slithers to the floor.

I couldn't stop laughing - and smiling - at how lucky it had been and how downright awesome it played out.

There is a way to climb out the back window through a bit of sneaky climbing and balance. Just park a Patriot out the back and you'll be untouchable. You only encounter 6 baddies that way.

I used an AK-47 I managed to snag when I shot up Perestroika. (Pull a gun out inside, a bunch of other people will do the same, one with an AK). I stole a cop car, and just made as many turns as possible before jumping onto the highway and escaping.

I was not in a mission, just running around doing random stuff. I went into a park and accidently bumped into this old lady, she said something to me, so I beat the living hell out of her. Then I was walking away like nothing happened and this big guy comes up and punches me and gets into his "fighting stance". A minute long fight ensues, and I land a lucky punch that sends him staggering backwards, over a ledge and down a 30 foot drop where he lands on his head on some concrete below. There was a blood stain by his head and he wasn't getting up, so I just took off before someone called the cops or something. Fun game

I did the same thing, I had to do the mission 3 times. The first 2 times I died while trying to lose my stars. The first time I got cornered because I drove into a construction site, there was literally 7 cop cars there I tried to jump over them but they riddled my ass with close to 50 bullets. The second time the cops had me cornered in an alleyway, I went to jump over some fence, not realizing that it was actually a 50 foot drop onto a highway. Needless to say after leaving the emergency room (I'm on a first name basis with everyone in there probably) I attempted the mission for a third time and finally completed it.

Played a game last night with some friends. We were all in his helicopter just flying around looking for a good spot to hold-out in, but before we do that we need some gear. Our mate dropped is off in the city and we all went our different ways for armour, machine guns, snipers, etc then all met up again at a crossroad for the chopper to come and pick us up. He's a few streets away and we can hear him coming when all of a sudden we hear this almighty crash just around the corner, out of eye-sight, and this burning car slowly rolls into view from the scene of the noise. Our mate hasn't said anything, we wait a few more minutes when he comes around the corner in a goddamn bus, a bus we can all get in and turn into a mobile ****ing death machine.

You had to be there to hear the helicopter, the noise from around the corner then to see a bus come trundling around the corner instead of a helicopter to laugh as much as I did when it first happened. He just opened the doors and in typical bus driver fashion joked to us all ''might want to hurry, the cops didn't appreciate the crash as much as I did'' and soon enough, it's revealed he - somehow - got a 4 star wanted level just by crashing.

Was brilliant. Not to mention that we could all sit in the bus so it basically became a moving bunker. Awesome.

Finishing up Final Interview:
I kill the two cops at the door and spy a gorgeous Sabre GT just begging to be used as a getaway car when a N.O.O.S.E. truck barrels down the street and plows into it head on. As cops and NOOSE agents surround me, I make a dash for the subway platform, sprinting as fast as possible while holding an AK-47. As I make my way down the stairs, a cop with an M4 turns the corner but with the rifle pointed down. Standing an inch away from him, I smash him in the head with the riflebutt, but don't stop to kill him.
I reach the station platform, and debate for a whole 3 seconds, do I wait for a train, or make a run on the tracks? Civilians scream when an elderly man yells out "Gun, shit!" making me realize that no one will survive. I open up and spray every person in the platform until I hear "Put your weapon down NOW!" I turn to see 3 NOOSE agents with MP5's aimed ready to kill me and jump down onto the tracks, and begin sprinting. Two agents run onto the tracks as a train pulls into the station, running both of them over, and leaving the last one no place to give chase.
After 20 minutes of running through the tunnels, I arrive at another platform, with cops ready, but only using handguns. The arrest script sets in as Niko puts his hands up. I'm pulling the trigger and finally, Niko riflebutts the cop to break arrest, only to have two hidden NOOSE agents come out of cover and have a 5.56 mm round fly through my head, killing me instantly.

I've still gotta beat Final Interview, but at least I'll be ready in the subway again.

I shot him again and suddenly, BOOM, the car explodes together with a car behind him. I don't know what the hell happened. It didn't even kill me, just threw me back and left me alive with a slither of health left.

I was sniping at a tower at the ship in Bomb da Base and I had a few stars because I had shot some cops too. I wanted to go down but instead of climbing the ladder down, I just let myself fall, the damage I took wasn't much. I let myself drop from the second ladder and when the camera panned down I saw this cop climbing the ladder. I hit him dead on with my full weight, killing him instantly :D

I was playing single player and had just walked out of a safehouse and thanks to the funny camera angle i couldnt see a huntley sport coming and was promptly knocked down. The driver stops and gets out of the vehicle whilst throwing the usual GTA style insult at me. I was just about to beat the crap out of the driver for running me over when a car coming in from the same direction swerved out of the way to miss the now stationary huntley and ploughed right into a lamp post on the otherside of the road. The lamp post sort of jammed again the crashed car but was leaning into the middle of the road and the top light section of the lamp post broke off and fell on the huntley drivers head killing him outright... free dropped cash for me and a nice vehicle with a rather nice and inviting open door! Karma does exist i tell you!!

I was screwing around with some cheats on another save earlier this evening just ****ing with the cops you know? The ycall in a chopper, so I pulled out the rpg and scored a direct hit on the bottom of the chopper. Did a flip, nosedived and crashed right on top of me. Exploded about two seconds later.

More recently, I just finished saving Roman from those Russians in the warehouse. Deciding I want to do another mission for Francis I called for a taxi and it dropped me off at the corner of Castle Gardens, South Parkway. I left Niko idle for a few seconds so I could eat and when I look up several cars just start exploding out of ****ing nowhere. Really weird, but so awesome.

I crashed my bike on the elevated freeway in south Alderney. It came to a rest just on the curb next to the ledge, so I ran up and pressed Y to get back on, and Niko jumps up onto the curb... and LEAPS OVER THE MOTHER****ING LEDGE TO HIS DEATH.

Also, I was giving Brucie a lift before, and just as we came to a stop at his destination a car pulled up next to his door, blocking him in. So what does he do? He leans over, PUNCHES ME OUT OF THE MY SIDE OF THE CAR, yelling "gimme that ****ing car!" (kind of neat they'd record such incidental dialogue for the side characters, I'd never heard that from any of them before), then hopped out of my door and calmly walked off, leaving me buckled over on the pavement.

I hope one of the updates (if not the first) is a series of proper assassination missions whereby you will have 24 hours to kill a politician or whatever and you'll be given his schedule for that day and it's up to you when and how you kill him.

Do you plant a bomb on his car in the morning at the risk of being spotted by security guards?

Do you burst into his morning meeting and kill everyone in the room before escaping up the fire escape?

Do you hijack his helicopter as he is on his way to a public event then jump out onto the Empire State Building's viewing platform whilst the helicopter plunges to the road below?

Do you snipe him from the building opposite as he cuts the ribbon on a newly opened police station?

Do you break in through the window of the motel he is in and kill both him and the diseased hooker who gave you herpes the other night?

I think it would be fantastic! :E


Anyway, my story:

I was escaping from the police and the "Feds" on a mission late in the game, three stars. I was speeding along the big raised road on the third island and was just on the edge of the ring when I saw police coming the other way, ready to cut me off. Then, on a 1 in a million chance, there was a coned off gap in the wall at the edge of the road. Without thinking about the raised nature of the road, I smashed through the cones and went cart-wheeling through the air. Somehow, despite all the closely packed building beneath me, the van landed on its wheels... hard. The axles were buckled, the engine was smoking, but I'd escaped the police. Then it just took me 20 minutes of only being able to turn left to get back to the lockup. :E

Was epic though.

Take the road in Times Square (or whatever it is) that go towards Middle Park, be sure to be on a bike and then hit the wall that around the park at full speed, you'll fly from the bottom of the park to the middle of it, so damn fun, you go so high above the city too. Spent a good hour doing that

I did the Bohan broken bridge jump in a Securicar. Cleared the bridge, went nose down into the road and MONSTERLY PANCAKED a sedan. The left side was untouched, but the entire right side from the trunk to the front wheel was less than a foot high. I wish I had my camera to take a picture. It was still 90% drivable.

I jacked this car at a red light on my first go, and reverse into the car behind me. The guy I'd just thrown out tries the door handle to get back in.. I drive off, the guy still holding onto the handle. Mustof dragged him atleast 5 blocks down the road. All the while his legs getting crush under the back left wheel. When he decided he'd had enough he went straight under the back wheel head and all, and randomly my car side flipped diagonally into a group of pedestrians. Pretty goddam hilarious for a first try.

I just went on a fun rooftop rampage.

I grabbed a heli from helitours and flew a few blocks into the city, landing on a rooftop that is relatively low compared to the skyscrapers surrounding it. I was low enough that I could lock on to people that were close to the building, but not to the people more than 30 feet from it.

I proceeded to snipe peds as they went about their daily lives - of course after the first shot they were all running targets except for the stoic hot dog salesman. I got up to 3 stars quickly after dropping a grenade on top of two cop cars. In comes a heli, I pick off his side-gunners and he takes up an observation position high above me, out of reach. I keep up my fire, picking off cops. 4 stars....5 stars....

Now the Annihilators start coming. The first approached from the side just above my height. I could still see the pilot though :) I pop him with a sniper shot as they pass by. The chopper spins and detonates the large group of squad cars and NOOSE vans. 6 stars.

I keep dropping Annihilator pilots as they fly in, some are fortunate enough to land relatively harmlessly on the ground, letting out their passengers. Others bounce off buildings and send unfortunate cops on the ground flying hundreds of yards with the rotors before they snap off.

This whole time I've been standing at the corner of this building so I can get the best view of the street. I still have full health and most of my armor. I figure I'd crouch to get better aim. You know how cops tend to swarm by the base of the building that you're on? Well apparently I was closer to the edge than I thought and by crouching and rotating, I lost my footing. I plummet towards the ground. Now that the cops have a good shot, they ALL open fire. I'm peppered with bullets on the way down. I die BEFORE I hit the ground.

Basically just drive up to the middle pole of the swing set, and hold down the gas until you go flying. :laugh: It really mashes up the cars too.

I attempted Three Leaf Clover and got to the part where you have to find a four-door car. I found a car but Patrick just stood their like a 'tard being shot by about 12 police officers, refusing to enter the car. :|

I already had the achievement beforehand so I'm not too sure. It's probably worth a try!

In singleplayer I think you have to reverse into the swingset, otherwise Niko does tend to go flying through the windscreen. Doesn't happen on multiplayer though. Just the other day my mate managed to send an ambulance flying all the way to the docks in west Broker, I couldn't stop laughing. :laugh:

Tried that swing glitch in several cars, none of them launch more then 2 feet into the air. Is there a special way to do this?
I just pull a car in backwards and wait, as I thought was being done in the video...

Didn't work for me, I ended up getting over the playground swingset,but coming down on the staircase entrance to the park.
