Well I just got portal today and I installed it. Everything was all good until I started playing. I did everything fine, then next thing you know, when I complete chamber 10, i hop on the little elevator and it takes me to the TITLE SCREEN. No matter how many times I play it, without fail, I end up at the title screen.
Does anyone know if i'm doing anythign wrong, or is it the software?

Are you using the Steam version of Portal?

I bought the game from Funcoland and then to register, it made me register with steam and all that...Is using steam not a good thing?
Oh and another thing, i noticed that it says, "sv_cheats 1" or somethign of that nature on the side before it cuts me to the title screen.

One of the original and now nearly extinct gaming stores that was bought out by and inevitably changed to Game Stop. Only a choice few remain unscathed whilst waiting for their lease to run up under the name funco land where they'll then change it to gamestop.
Have you tried verifying the cache integrity with Portal?
Right click the game under the "Games" tab -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game cache

Thta's what i am doing now.....But what happens if my game is junk? You think they'd refund me or something?

It's unlikely it's "junk". In the case it was, you could uninstall it and then re-download it from Steam for free.
I cannot say further what your problem may be, though. Try restarting from the level's beginning?

I've played the level at least three times already and it's done the same thing. =/
So if i uninstall it, Steam would give it to me for free? Hrm...I think i'll try it.

You can download your games from Steam as many times as you want for free.
Did you buy Portal on it's own ?, or with the Orange Box

I'm looking through steam, and its telling me that i have to buy portal for 19.95....
This is SO confusing.
EDIT: I bought it on its own....

It should be somewhere in the Games tab under Not Installed. Make sure you're on the same account you played Portal on originally.

Where is the noninstalled part? I only can see a list of things that say Installed. The only thing there is Portal. I have no other account either.

You need to uninstall it for it be under the Not Installed list :\
You might also want to update your graphics drivers.

Lol. that makes sense~
I can update the drivers online, correct? How would i get to that? It gave me the little warning, but i jsut figured i'd do it later since i wanted to just play it.

Did you do the verifying of game files as Pes suggested on the previous page? That should have fixed the problem.
Also, to clarify with the games installed / uninstalled. You should have a 'my games' tab which shows all your games which you own, installed or not, look through the list. It's extremely easy to navigate, my sister can even do it.
Also, when you installed Portal, what process did you go through?
