Valve's been teasing all of us for years with that sexy, down-to-earth video game vixen, and if Gordon's going to get any action, I imagine it'll be in Episode 3, since it concludes the current story arc, and sexual tension between Gordon and Alyx has been building with every new release (Look at the last one, shit - "Can you blame an old man for wanting grandkids?").

The thing about the interaction i don't realy like is standing there like a buffoon when Alyx is sad. the train ride in episode 1 where Alyx where pinned under the stalker was awesome, i really felt i had to run over there to help her, and when she was free, standing there with her hands over her face, i wanted to place a hand on her shoulder, telling her to snap the **** out of it.

It was initiated by her, as a surprise and I think a pleasure to most people who played it. If there were to be a kiss, I imagine it would take place quickly before Freeman is put into stasis or otherwise whisked away by powers beyond his control. It effectively allows the relationship to reach its climax without bogging it down in the aftermath.

I don't understand why some people are so vehemently against it either. If the above scenario were to take place, would you really complain? Assuming it's done well, would you really be so peeved? If it's foisted on the player in perhaps a moment of desperation or impending departure, you could react to it however you wanted to. It would be an expression of her feelings, which doesn't have to always jive with you. Whether you like her or not, she clearly does like you. Besides, she's cute enough. Would it be so bad even if you didn't fully reciprocate it?

I am very eager to see how Alyx's personality will change after the end of Ep2 and how her relationship with Gordon will change because of it. I think that with her loss she will draw closer to Gordon and that my very well lead to a more intimate relationship (and hopefully some active interaction).they have relied one each other for support both physical and emotional, and friendship. Their relationship has been edging toward more of a ... i don't think "romantic" is quite the right word "Romance" has a mushy connotation. Alyx's and Gordon's relationship is NOT mushy. Barny says something like " You look like you could use a rest. theres a room made up for you just down the hall... third one on the left." then he will say one of several things (maybe different ones each time you plat the game through): "I just sent Alyx there... she looked she needed a break almost as much as you.", "Alyx is waiting for ya (lucky dog)", "Alyx is in there... (laughing) I hope you don't mind sharing a room." or something like that. It could also be more solemn: " Your sharing a room with Alyx... It looks like she needs some company." or he could say nothing at all about Alyx. you would then make your way the the indicated door. (you might be able to open the other doors "Hey I'm try'n to sleep in here!" a couple kissing on the bed "Hey give us some privacy!") you enter your room and Alyx is there dressed more comfortably no jacket, Black Mesa sweatshirt, just t-shirt and jeans (oh and no shoes). she would be siting on the bed looking a that picture of her, her mother, and Eli a sad expression on her face maybe even crying. she will hear you and look up and say something like: "Oh, hey Gordon.", or maybe more hopeful "Gordon, we did it.". she will great you probably hug you, mention the recent victory EXE. at some point you will wind you sitting next to her on the bed and she will be leaning on you. she will then something like " I miss him so much, Gordon", (crying) she stops crying and turns to look at you with a powerfully bitter sweet expression on her face "But at least I still have you." she embraces you (hug is too weak a word) your arms reach out and hold her (and *gasp your hands aren't gloved) "I don't know what I would do with out you.' she continues. you shift position until she in lying down on the bed and your above her looking down. she looks into your eyes with a powerful mix of grief and pain, love and admiration, and... desire. your hand reaches up to caresses her face, your view gets closer to her face..... and it fades to black... and in the darkness you hear Alyx sigh sensually/ breathlessly "Gordon..." she whispers Breathlessly. I can see why you would not want to sit still for so long, but they have had some pretty long duologue sequences that you pretty much sit through (not that I mind I mean these sequences are one of the best parts of the game). that being said the sequence I described couldn't be to long or they would have some active participation (which would be a big part of that scene anyway).

I suspect that in the climax of Half Life 2 Ep3, when it seems like they have won, a Combine or enemy similar to that will pop up and just shoot Alyx in the gut as she walks towards Gordon. Looking down at the wound, she'll look in horror and fall to the ground, dead.

This will end Alyx's relationship with Gordon so it doesn't become stale and Gordon doesn't become one half of the 'wonder team' of Alyx and Gordon. It's an unhappy outcome, but one that would tie up loose ends well.

If she were to die it wouldn't happen that fast, it would be slow and painful. It would give the player a lot to consume as you see a fatally wounded, weeping, blood gurgling Alyx. The lack of medical expertise in the room would mean a groups of rebels would be frantically wondering what to do, emotionally shell-shocked from what they just witnessed.

As her eyes glaze over, her last word would be "Dad"

Then Gordons last mission will be to carry Alyx's limp body to the helicopter, for the long journey home.

If it's foisted on the player in perhaps a moment of desperation or impending departure, you could react to it however you wanted to. It would be an expression of her feelings, which doesn't have to always jive with you.
That's not really what's being discussed though. She already hugs the player in EP1 before you can gain control of yourself. What people are talking about is making the relationship more serious and becoming something physical against what the player's will may be. If the player was forced into a long kiss with Alyx at the end of EP3 it would completly jar me from the game as it would go totally against the way I've role-played the character of Gordon Freeman and anyone else who had roleplayed similarly to me. The player is supposed to be Gordon Freeman, to project his thoughts onto Gordon. That has been one of the staples of the HL series. Forcing Gordon to recipricate Alyx's feelings would break this characteristic of the series.

I'd also like to put forward a few more reasons why I think this would be a bad idea.
A first person kiss would probably look really, really stupid. What do you see? Her lips pressing against the screen or perhaps just here eyes two inches away from the view? I'm picturing it my head right now and it seems damn silly to me. The only way I can imagine it seeming decent is her leaning forward and then it fading to black, which I think would be rather cheap.
If it was to be player controlled, what is it going to be like? "Press E to hug Alyx" would seem a bit out of place, don't you think? I remember in Bioshock when you first encounter a Little Sister, it is quite a dramatic scene, until a little pop-up comes up and explains what you have to do and breaks the immersion. It says press button W to do X and button Y to do Z. It was so damn out of place.
Would you not prefer the game to focus on some decent story points rather than on Alyx's bloody crush on Freeman? Should the ending not be a revelation about the g-man or a dramatic blow to the Combine, rather than something as trivial as sleeping with Alyx?

People writing out large love scenes are being unrealistic, I agree. Hence why I believe that romance could only work if it was brief, perhaps somewhat tragic in its fleetingness. And these fanfics often make the crucial mistake of assuming there would be time for sex after Gordon's job is done. He will more than likely end back up in stasis the moment he achieves his goal. Any way, Marc Laidlaw has already said that they have so far only flirted with romance. If they were to take the next step into realizing it, I doubt it would be such a plunge.

But that doesn't mean it can't be acknowledged in no way, shape, or form. Nor would it have to overshadow the rest of the plot. Why is it that after years of consistently delivering quality, people expect the worst from Valve?

I agree. now these character aspects will be present but they will not be Alyx's defining characteristics. of course she will be grieving and will not be in the mood to joke, but underneath the fresh pain she will still be Alyx. her personality will change but fundamentally she will remain much the same.... and like always heal with time though the pain never quite goes away. One thing I have seen is that when dealing with loss those who are grieving draw closer to friends family and loved ones. Alyx will draw closer to Gordon and over time maybe not in Ep3 but latter she may recover. I will wait hopefully to hear her first joke, laugh, or see her smile.

a "sex scene" if it is included should not be at the end, I agree fully with you on that. Heck having it in Ep3 might be too soon. no matter how deep and involving the Gordon (you) Alyx relationship is there is a bigger (but not necessarily better) plot line driving the story. so having a side plot/romance end an Ep would be weird. It would be place within the games maybe in the last half of whatever Episode they put it in (if they do). It won't be graphic, and will probably fade out before it gets too far. after which you will either: 1 dream about some important info relating to Alyx and where she stands in relation to you, the G-man, exe, 2 G-man talks to you in your sleep doing his "G-man thing" + a smart comment "well... Dr. Freeman... I am.. Glad that you have ... Managed to receive some.... Pl... Pleasure out of your situation." and then "I was informed that this might happen. in fact it is not something wholly undesirable." or 3 the vorts come to you (and Alyx maybe) and they explain some things or hint at things, giving some more clues as to the significance of Gordon's and Alyx's relations ship. when the visions are over your "wake up" and either: 1 Alyx will be leaning over you smiling and say "Wake up sleepy", Wake up Stud.", or simply "good morning" she would be earing some type of clothing for this one , or 2 you wake up and she is still sleeping you get up and find your HEV suit hanging on a rack in the corner. you look back to the bed and Alyx will be lying there mostly covered by a blanket but what you can see of her suggests that she is not wearing much (if anything) and at this point all the childish ones can jump around the room singing "I got Laid, I got Laid!", on a more thankful note you will finally be glad you can NOT see Gordon's legs. you wil put on the HEV suit and go do some stuff and at some fpoint Alyx will come in and make a sly comment to you... and then it is down to business (what ever that may be).

The most I would want is maybe an implication scene but nothing more. of course I want to see Alyx and Gordon grow closer together and a good character relationship is about more than how long it takes them to "do it". What I wrote is a hypothetical situation (even that was not explicit) about how Valve might go about working a "sex scene" into the narrative, never once thinking or wishing it to actual be included in the game. There have been plenty of good romances with out explicit sex or even implication of sex. I think an implication in the future HL games is a possibility and maybe a likely one. but those who are really hoping for something steamy need to grow up and learn to use their imagination.

Incidentally, I think it's been pretty well-documented that people often respond to death with fornication. I'm not sure what the psycholigical basis for it may be; something to the effect of a 're-affirmation of life' type thing, probably, in very simplistic terms. So in that sense, Alyx wanting to get it on might not be too far off the mark.

This might go in totally different direction and she might actually hate us and respond in the proper way:
1. She feels isolated especially after her father's death and takes her own life in the end of episode 3 after finding out about what gordon did (or didnt do ?).
2. She tries to kill us and we have to fight her without killing her ofc.
3. the player "redeem" himself in the eyes of Alex and gordon sacrafices himself in an epic scene.
