View Full Version : Wikipedia and Half-Life Articles

So I was on the Wikipedia few minutes ago, reading random articles and I noticed they removed the article for Dr. Green Colette (one of the protagonists of Half-Life: Decay). Their reason for deletion is simple: it's not encyclopedic.
I think they're planning to remove/merge more Half-Life articles soon (see Dr. Gina Cross) Wikipedia is probably one of the best resources to get information on Half-Life series, it's sad to see some people are butchering it.
I don't know much about Wikipedia and its silly rules, so I'm asking here people to help and improve (or do something to save them) Half-Life articles on Wikipedia.
Maybe someone can put all character information into one (or more) article(s) and call it major/minor characters, like Deus Ex characters list (see the link above). I'd do it myself, but my grammar sucks. :dork:

Yeah, I noticed one of my images was orphaned only a few days ago because "Antlion (Half-Life 2)" was turned into a meaningless redirect to "Half-Life series" (which contains no mention whatsoever of the creatures) I've just about given up trying to find a method behind the madness that is Wikipedia's gaming section.

Antlion and some other articles are here, merged:

Wikipedia has always been an excellent source of information. Some great articles on there.

I agree. I [personally] don't want people (especially new Half-Life players) to get brainwashed by the Saga Story Guide's pointless theories.

I've been looking after the Headcrab and Xen articles as best as I can. I've not gone much outside this, as I've not found anything which needs major editing as of yet.

I always found making sense of Half-Life's story using Wikipedia to be lol. Someone went so far as to say that the Combine were on Xen and had actually caused the Resonance Cascade. :|

Even more reason for people to go back to work on our wiki (http://www.halflife2.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page).

Except there's far more content on Wikipedia than there is on ours. It's rather depressing. That's why I ended up working on the Headcrab article there, instead.

For the love of god, somebody copy-paste the articles into our wiki before they disappear. There's some informative stuff in there!

Wikipedia articles have been going down for sometime.
Someone keeps removing the images for pretty much everything, the Magnusson article is quite dissapointing and they're still using old HL2 images for Alyx (which is a pity considering the new technology and advanced ep1/ep2 model)

This. Bots keep removing images from the Headcrab article. There is nothing I can do. I do not know the correct procedure to prevent it.

I'll [try] to do it.

I also find the lack of a proper Otis article quite intolerable.

I'm a strong supporter of "**** Wikipedia", primarily due to the amount of jackasses with admin rights there trying to add meaning to their lives by deciding what is encuclopedic and what is not.

I know a thing or two abut Wikipedia (I used to edit A LOT there), and basically, those articles detailed Half-life stuff are screwed, they will be deleted sooner or later ("not notable").
As for the images, well long story short, Wikipedia is paranoid about copyright law, so they have bots tag every image that's not properly rationaled for deletion. Yes, they really think they'll be sued for screenshots. That's Wikilogic for ya.
Moving the articles onto our Wiki is a good idea, especially the Combine lists (one's already been deleted).

Wikipedia is a bastion of the internet that is sadly currently under assault by nazis (figuratively and literally.) who decide for themselves what is encyclopedic or not without bothering to look into the definition. Then there are bots that are tagging every image and sound clip as a possible violation of fair use rationale. I wish that someone would find these users unencyclopedic and the bots in violation and ban all of them.

Wikipedia is made of win, but sometimes it can be a pain in the ass. (This doesn?t happen as often as one might expect, though.)

I'm not sure what planet of ignorance you came from, but when was the last time you came across a vandalised article to which you could not return 5 minutes later to find it fixed?
