DOSBOX question: Can you increase 8 character directory limit?

Basically I am having a problem installing the original Dungeon Keeper through Dosbox. The problem is to install it I would have to go through a directory named DOSSETUP. The problem with this is that I am getting an error stating I have to keep a directories named smaller than 8 characters.

I remember on an older version of DosBox I was able to install it, but now I have a newer version of DosBox and Vista, and I can't install.

Any help would nice. Thanks

I thought the 8char limit was a defining feature of DOS itself.

DOSSETUP has exactly 8 character, doesn't it?

Anyway, if a directiory has more than 8 characters, you type in the first 6 characters, followed by ~1 (and respectively ~2, ~3 etc., if there are more directories beginning with the first 6 letters).

For example Program Files under DOS is PROGRA~1.

Dosbox has tab auto completion, use it. Or just use the windows version;

I've been trying to get Vista to like DK, but nothing works. Problem persists, doesn't get past copyright image at load up, crashes to black screen, then to Windows.

Thank you for how to lay out the directory, but it didn't like me trying to install to drive c (kept on coming up with error message in installer, so I had to manually create a folder named keeper, then install to that directory and it worked fine

Its not reading the CD, would I have to mount d d:\ to get to work?

I was typing it as you would any dos directory, which was cd\dossetup, unfortunately dosbox assumed cd\ was part of the directory

That's because you should type:

cd DOSSETUP

instead of:

cd\DOSSETUP

But I guess you've got that figured now, after reading Kyorisu's post.
