I wonder how close I could get to making a race of sentient hat-like creatures. They'd start out relatively normal, their head becoming taller and more cylindrical with each evolutionary step, until they eventually grow beyond the need for a body or limbs, instead gravitating to and fro unaided, held aloft by sheer finesse. They'd shoot lasers from their eyes to accomplish menial tasks such as preparing food and signalling taxis, and their mating ritual would consist of compliments involving the word 'snazzy' (something not to be said lightly in badhatian culture). Also, the social heirarchy would be arranged according to how many buttons and other knickknacks one could arrange about his or her person without becoming overburdened or unfashionable.

Someone needs to create a race of shoe people for me to ridicule from afar... and eventually be conquered by, due to the fact that floating about aimlessly and shooting lasers at things is not a hugely productive way to advance one's species.

There are going to be so many funky creations out there. But I'm sticking with realistic species. I wonder if you'll be able to negotiate with other tribes of different species in the tribal phase? Like if a separate race is attacking you harshly, you can ally with a third race that's not threatened by the race that's attacking you and you fight them together? That would be cool.

Actually, last thing I heard there will be some hardcoded limits on the amount of limbs etc because the game had problem creating some animmations for some of the more truly insane creatures, which lead to strange behaviour ingame including very buggy animations..

Will Wright made a three legged creature during the demo in E3 06 I think? So you should be able to make a Strider or Hunter like creature. I'm going to make a Hunter. And it will be violent.

Does anyone know what limitations (if any) there are on the way you can make your creature look?
You must have a mouth, and a physically possible body(connection with the ground, and all your body parts) and you can only use certain pre-made body parts(limbs/mouths/decorations/weapons/etc) but you can morph them.


I'm more interested about the building and UFO editors, they seem to be more flexible.
