Review just went up at IGN so check it out. SSMB sounds like a very good game and might be the reason for me to finally buy a Wii. (that is if I could ever find one) http://wii.ign.com/articles/856/856580p1.html

I whole heartedly agree with the 3rd party thing. Megaman? Banjo-Kazooie? Joanna Dark? Cmon, there were a whole bunch of characters they couldve included. Stopping at Sonic and Solid Snake was just a tease.

I actually played a cracked version of this a few weeks ago, and it doesn't dissapoint :D

Some of the levels are crazy (eg, one where you are on a platform in a lylat wars setting, and the background is moving really fast dodging asteroids). The smash ball things that let you do the mega attacks are awesome (especially fox turning into a tank and flying around in it shooting things) They were pretty hard to actually hit though in my limited experience, you've gotta smash into them to unlock them and they float around the screen, unlike say pokeballs that you just pick up and throw

Unfortunately all the menus were in japanese though on the version I played so I couldn't see if there were any crazy new settings to play with, and single player wasn't working so I only got to play the default characters (couldn't unlock with singleplayer broken. well, except sonic, he got unlocked through playing multiplayer for however long it was)

Still, it was really fun! I played with a gamecube controller and it controlled the same as melee

Oh yeah, and bulbasaur's vine whip attack is fun to use when you're playing the pokemon trainer :P I think squirtle is the best though if you're playing to win with him

EDIT: the level i was talking about was in the video, it's the one with the 3 blue jets on the front of the platform and the lylat wars ships flying around and stuff

So we'll need to get three new controllers to play this. Ugh. Expensive purchase.

You can play with Gamecube controllers if you want, so that'd cost you significantly less than buying three Wiimotes and Nunchucks.

Wait, what?

You can?

Really? No lie?

I did not know that! AWESOMEOO!

We have plenty of gamecube controllers.

You could even technically use Gamecube controller adaptors to use PS1/PS2 controllers for it. Those are extremely cheap.

EDIT: Yes, you can, whoever's designing the game said that motion sensing can be a little too much sometimes.

What makes me mad, is that Wii was supposed to be one of the cheapest consoles or so I heard... out of the three... ps3 xbox 360 and wii.

And I guess in a way it was cheaper, but it still cost an outrageous amount of money when my brother bought it for my cousins on christmas. It wasn't much cheaper than my xbox 360, and I bought a lot more for my 360 than he was able to get for the wii.

:(

Oh well.

The IGN review says you can unlock everything without even touching the singleplayer if you don't want to... thank god.

Oh well.Well, uh... if you're going to buy lots of games, extra controllers, etc., of course it's going to cost more. I'm not sure how you can get more for the Xbox than you can for the Wii with the same amount of money, though. Brand new, Wii games are on average $10-20 cheaper than Xbox 360 games, and the controllers, etc. cost the same between the two (unless you get wired Xbox controllers).

Why aren't you on MSN?

My mom just pre-ordered for Sunday (she loves the Wii, so any good new Wii game, she'll get right away), so I'll get it when it comes out, looking forward to it. I've only ever played the first one on my cousins N64 when it first came out, I beat it with Mario and Link (I think..) I can't really remember. I only remember that the giant hand was a BITCH to kill.. Cheating piece of shit, he was. So I don't really know SSB series, guess I'll know on Sunday, though..

I'll probably play as a generic character for starters, like Mario or something.

Smash Bros. isn't about beating the singleplayer mode. It's about having ridiculous and awesome 4-player brawls and tournaments with your friends :p

The amount of fun I've had with SSB and Melee promises good times with Brawl, too.

I had a chance to play this for a few hours today since a bunch of my buddies went to the Nintendo Employee Store to pick it up for $45. I didn't get it though.

So my first impressions: It ****in' rocks! The controls seem a lot tighter (I was using the Gamecube controller) and it does seem a lot quicker.

Smash balls are fun and totally change the dynamic since everyone rushes to it.

So if anyone is on the fence, I just say you NEED to play this game, or at least know someone who has it.

I didn't play Subspace emissary, only normal brawls. We unlocked Luigi, Ness, Snake, and Sonic and it seemed to go pretty quick.

My favorite character is Kirby and he seems to be a lot more powerful and useful. :) Plus he has a decent smash attack on the smaller maps (or else they aren't in range to get sucked in).

Do you still have to beat unlockable characters before they actually get unlocked for you?

Corp. Sheepo

There's a couple ways to unlock each unlockable character. You can find them on the brawl website.

Yup.

What happens is that let's say you're working on getting Snake, which the requirement is to play in Shadow Moses 15 times.

So, what we did was just have one stock brawls with 2x damage (games lasted like 45 seconds) and then eventually, after the 15th round, it went "Challenger approaching!" and showed the silhouette of the characer. Then the person who won the brawl had to face him in their stage and beat them (it was a one-stock brawl).

Okay, awesome. I always loved having to defeat characters before I got to use them, it makes it exciting :D

You can also unlock chars without having to fight them in the Subspace Emissary if you get them to join you.
