Since there's no silver option, I voted black. I've heard that Advance Wars: DS is better than Days of Ruin, but I don't know as I've only played DS (Which is BRILLIANT)

I had a black DS first. It looked awesome, but was a dust and fingerprint magnet. I'd clean it and within a few minutes it was quite messy. That got swapped for a white one which always looks nice and, more importantly, looks better when open - the black version has a matt interior which is quite dull.

I would get a black one, the white one looks like it would suffer what Macbooks go through, it'll eventually get discolored from grease, oils and dead skin cells. My white one hasn't because I don't bring it with me in public and when I play it at home, it's lying on a table most of the time.

I third the storage device, I personally use the m3 ds real, they're virtually the same though.

The R4 is a flash cart that holds a micro SD card for storage. The card is the exact size of any DS game. Just load NDS roms on the micro SD card along with a few files from their website, insert the micro SD card into the R4 and the R4 into the DS just like a regular game and voila.

I have a 1gb card and I can hold like 12+ nds games and a few SNES games.

It'll take a few hours off your battery life, but it's really not noticeable. You'll still get like 10 hours out of your battery and best of all, it's like $50 total for the R4 and micro SD card if you find a good deal.

Well... to be fair, choosing color is pretty much entirely subjective. The choice is to suit what color you like best, not what joe blow on helplife2.net likes best.

If I were you, I'd just choose the color you enjoy the most. You can always get covers (plastic, metallic, etc.) for it if you're worried about fingerprints and whatnot.
