Half Life 2:Episode 2 Updates

Hey, I haven't had steam for long, I've only got it for my Orange Box games, and I've just installed Half Life 2: Episode 2 but it says it'll take 10 hours to update! The first two games I installed didn't take nearly as long to update, and I know that the original is infinitely longer than episode 2, so why does it need so many updates and are they necessary for the game? Can I play without all the updates?

I think it's necessary to play.

Are you on 56k? The update shouldn't be too big.

The version of the first game you got in the Orange Box was fully updated already. No, you can't play without updates.

even though the updates are good to have... they should be optional, unfortunately, they are not.

Cheers for the quick response. That's what I thought, but it still insists on updating when I try and play. It seems really excessive for such a short game, it'll probably take me longer to download the updates than to play it. Did anyone else have this problem? And I don't know my internet speed, it's never been too slow though.

if its taking 10hrs then you either never installed it before or you have a slow connection. what is the download speed of it? it should show up next to the game in 'my games' tab
