Right i have a problem.
I bought hl2 when it came out and played it online etc. However i lost access to the internet in my room for pretty much two years lol
Anyway when i tried to play half life 2 again recently after getting it back i couldnt remember my username or password. I have always had the same email address so i emailed them about it so they could reset it. They never emailed back so i emailed them again a few times. I then decided to create a new steam account but when it came to entering the cd key it recognised that it was already in use, like i didn't know :rolling:
Ive emailed them again since then and have never got one reply and that was about 3 weeks ago. Also cannot find a phone number to phone them directly either. What should i do about this problem and why does it need to be this complicated??

Its not complicated at all...
Valve's site for support is on http://www.steampowered.com go click the tab that says "support" and put in a support ticket.
They won't respond to email response, use the Support link on the site I mentioned above.

umm you have the option to recover the account if you know your security question answer.

OKay maybe im being really stupid
But ive clicked on that support bit and i see no 'ticket'? What you mean by that?
Why will they not respond to a feature that is there and they created. I requested a new password through the option they have when it says 'forgotten password?' and never heard nothing. This is a flaw in there service and if they dont have adequate support why have this whole stupid process anyway?
Can anyone tell me what they will actually do about this. Im not gonna dick about by sending stuff over to america to prove i bought the game and that like i seen suggested somewhere on that site and waiting 8 weeks etc.
I have bought the game, i used to have a steam account, i just want a new one, why is this not an easy problem to fix :(

It is. There's no problem with Steam's forgotten password system. I've used it personally, and there was absolutely no problem with it. They got back to me within a couple of days, if not the next day, shocking me at their response speed.
The only problem with it was that it's too good, as they gave me someone elses account details :hmph:

Well that cannot be said for me! Being good for one user doesnt make the system good.
I asked for a new password, then asked for new username see if that would work, infact i tried pretty much everything and noone has been able to tell me what to do. I find links and they all lead me back to that bloody support page linked above which is as much use as a chocolate teapot

Lost passwords have not been an issue so far as I hear.
If you can't do it, you're probably doing it wrong.
I've even gone through the Steam Support Page to find an appropriate page for you.
http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=294
This page should help you to obtain your lost information

Well if you can't use a simple support system, there is no help for you. All game companies use a similar system now...It's been used for thousands if not millions of people, so obviously it works, you're just being lazy about it.

Ive never had a problem with any thing like this before and ive used systems like that many times

Entered by details and email address etc and they never got back to me. Tried this a few times. Obvioulsy they are taking an extended xmas break or something

Yes, that is the same link I provided. If you entered all your information in correctly, you should receive a response within 3-5 days.

Hm im afraid none of anyones links linked to that page exactly :S
It was my mate who found that one for me
Well i sent that request the other night so i should receive a reply by the weekend really. Not really that complicated a problem. Maybe this whole steam system would work a whole lot better if it weren't so anal

You won't receive it at the weekend. Or at least, you're highly unlikely to.
There's nothing wrong with the system, it appears there's something wrong with its user.

You should recieve a 12 digit confirmation number within a few minutes, or hours at most. If you haven't you didn't do it correctly.
