Joystiq reports that it was contacted by a reliable source within a major film production company who has told them that a film adaptation of 2K?s latest blockbuster BioShock is being discussed internally. The source discloses that the studio hopes to bring the watery world of the game alive through extensive use of green screen technology, which was used in recent films like Sin City and 300.
If the computer-generated approach seems feasible, they will then move onto the secondary characters. As the site notes, it is not guaranteed to move beyond this phase, though if it does, it would make a pretty cool movie.

No it wouldn't. This is a bad idea for a movie.

Yeah, won't go down well with audiences. Some games are best kept games, not raped into a movie by Hollywood.

I dunno, in the right hands it could come out fine. Obviously the main story line was made for a game but if they were willing to go into some of the back-story a bit more...

I think bioshock would make a great game. Spielberg and Lucas should team up and make this.
edit: to say I'm not gonna edit my mistake

If Hollywood cared about what the Game's Designers thought about the movies production, it would turn out fine.
In my opinion, they should have the same people who made the games make the movie too.

lol i hope you caught your error. i think bioshock would make a great game. i mean they could show everything before the game starts, but as long as they dont do that first person crap from doom them im good with it.

It would have to be a movie about Ryan leaving Russia as a young boy to seek fortune in America, shit happens, good things happen, he burns his forest, he builds rapture, bad shit happens.
The twist of Bioshock can't be done in a movie.

If that is the only back-story you got from BioShock then you are missing out.

I don't see why not, it's not like
twists regarding the identity of a character haven't been done before, The Empire Strikes Back and The Usual Suspects for example

Exactly how many game - movie crossovers have been in any way good?

Got to disagree, imo its a good idea for a movie (judging what I've played from the first hour and half of the game). Question is, how well will it be handled? Not very well most likely. Whats Uwe Boll doing? I need a good laugh.
Spielberg should make this.
Agreed.

I didn't want to spoil anything, so I dumbed it down.
Also,
I'm talking about the 'Would you kindly?' twist. They could do it, but it wouldn't have nearly the same impact. It would actually be kind of lame in a movie

So...we're boned?
And I agree with Cerpin. The movie should be about Andrew Ryan getting to where he is and the rise and fall of Rapture

Yeah, it can't be about the game itself unless they add some characters to make it more than just exploring and killing splicers and big daddies which would be absurd, but pretty in the right hands too. It also can't be a prequel because that is what the next game is supposed to be. Who knows about this...I have low hopes.

I think that is due to a lack of respect for the source material by the people making the film. Game-to-Movie's are seen as little more than money spinners due to their pre-built audience.
I don't think it's impossible to make a good BioShock movie, but that doesn't mean that they will make a good BioShock movie if they decide to go ahead with this.

I agree it would have less impact but I don't think it would be lame either.

Of course it's not impossible.
Just really unlikely.

Yeah probably, but there are worse starting positions for a movie.

This is one game that would be EASY as HELL to make into a movie. They will have no problem following the games story as its more or less told like a movie.

it has a good enough story, but i doubt they will do it any justice at all

I don't know, I could easily see this as a movie. I thought it had a "movie" plot if you will. You could avoid having the main character be in solitude often by having him and Fontaine maintaining consistent radio contact, not just every time something significant happens. Even if it wasn't that way, it wouldn't be all that bad. In I Am Legend, Will Smith conversed with a dog and mannikins for a hefty portion of the film, and I thought it was done brilliantly.
There definitely has to be NO CG for any characters though. I need a real BD, a real LS, and real ****ing Splicers.
Now that I'm really thinking about it, they could make Bioshock into a really great thriller/horror flick. Think about the atmosphere, the uncertainty of the main character, his predicament. Remember the first time you stepped outside the first Bathysphere? I was scared shit to go any further.

Considering Little Sisters are going around drawing "ADAM" from corpses, I don't think it would be a big deal. Or they could have the protagonist taking the "good route." More likely than not that would be the case. Then later they could introduce the female scientist (forgot her name) as a helpful character who provides support throughout.
