View Full Version : Defrag GCF files and speed up your games
You now that even defragmented GCF files by windows are still fragmented?
Do you know that fragmented files are loading slower?
Here is solution for you:
A small tool witch allows you to defragment GCF files!
Instalation:
Un-rar files to your Steam main directory usually:
C:\Program Files\Steam
Step 1
If you got options like that one skip to step 2http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2008/defragvi7.png (http://imageshack.us)
If you don't have click Start than run and type cmd and press enter. You will see a command prompt window type:
cd C:\Program Files\Steam
Step 2
Type:
defrag_folder.cmd steamapps
Notes 1st defragment could take a very long time so be patient :)

Is that the same as opening Steam, clicking on games, right clicking on a game, clicking on properties, clicking on local files, and clicking on defragment cache files?
Nope Steam defragment whole gcf and that app defragment every file in gcf.

Unless you have a really bad AV/Firewall combo, there's no way that app should send anything to anyone.

my AV/firewall combo is just fine thanks, but im not prepared to bet my whole steam account on it. especially not just for a virtually immeasurable performance gain. i wouldnt notice it anyway - i get an average of 220 FPS in HL2 on my system anyway - but even if i had a slow PC, it wouldnt be worth trusting my steam account to some random code to gain a couple of FPS.
I don't say you have to download its nothing to worry about.
As I can see your last account probably was stolen/disabled/hacked :S

nope, no lost accounts here. im just careful with my stuff, learn from other peoples mistakes, use common sense, and weigh things up. i know i dont have to download it. im just saying why i dont see it being a good idea for ANYONE to use something like that.

I think the only thing it speeds up is load times.

Cause AciD tryed to help me with my TF2 lag problems, so I thought I'd post. Anyway, this 'fix' does nothing and is useless.
