Some have ears on their knees! So maybe this one sees from it's knees too.

Synths aren't antlions though, they are just general other creatures; captured, forcefully evolved in fighting synths etc. (just like the gunship / strider). That actually does look pretty good, and based on the picture in RtB it's fairly accurate. Stick with the modelling I say!

I'm not sure if I agree on the body and leg texture. The body texture literally looks like sand and a portion of both legs looks like a candy cane. Also, is that a weapon on the left side of the creature? The other parts of the texture are pretty nice though. Finishing work is vastly more important than stopping project after project.

It's too bright, that's the problem. I didn't set lights right, but it's almost exactly like raising the bar.
