I don't really like the photoshopping in this one. I was kind of rushed when I did it, and was planning on doing a better version later. But then I didn't. I'll probably get around to that eventually.

Hm. Do you guys mean small in proportion to the bird, or just like a small, weird-looking hand with small fingers and small weirdness? If it's the former, I used a random picture of a bird that I thought was pretty for reference, and drew it at the size I thought it would be? I dunno heh. He was really fun to draw, but sort of exhausting. That... could have something to do with the fact that I did most of this in one sitting? Ahahaha I didn't mean to it just sort of ended up that way. :< Either way, I think I'm done with my pencils for a little while. At least until tomorrow afternoon, anyway. I'm still debating whether or not I should get a red pen and put a little dot in the middle of his face...!

Inconsistencies with shading - bits are metallic-smooth, other bits are crinkly like a plastic chip packet - but it's still a pretty good pic; i certainly could not draw any better. I think.

Well, D0g is made of a lot of different materials, and I tried to mimic the texture and shadows/highlights of those materials when I was drawing him. I might go back through and try to make the parts that are obviously the same material more consistent with each other, though.

Yes, but there's bits that look almost liquid-metal smooth, which Dog obviously does not have. He's made of different materials but the thing they all have in common is that they're all damaged or war-torn, that sort of thing.

It seems like in comparison to the size of her head her arms are quite thick, giving her GUNS. But that may just be me.

My main issue's with the face, and it's a pretty common one. It seems like it has been drawn with a false sense of perspective, an attempt to approximate perspective without quite hitting it. Consequently the facial features are not actually arranged quite realistically - the mouth seems low down and if i'm not mistaken her right eye is misaligned with the left, leading to the impression that it is slipping down her face (I'M MEEELTING). I also think it's rather far over to the side of her face. This isn't nearly so bad as it often is when this happens, and, as I said, it happens a lot - seems to be symptomatic of when people learn to draw via copying anime, although I would not dare to suggest anything about your artistic history with no grounds.

Generally, though, that's pretty cool.

To the point that even if I were there instead of here at my mother's I'd be all like "psh **** your shit, scanner." I could take pictures with my D80, but I'm kind of lazy and such...? Oh I should also mention that their expressions are going to change. I'm going to give the girl a bit more of a sly smile and she's going to be looking at him, and I'm not sure if they guy will be looking down at at the cigarette or at her.

Her eyes are REALLY bothering me, though. I used myself as a model for her because I don't have any friends to model for me, so I can't tell if her eyes look too big because I ****ed them up or because I just have obnoxiously large eyes. I NEED OPINIONS

Her right eye (our left) is fine but the other one just doesn't seem to be following the angle of her face, and so it seems big.

We shouldnt be able to see that much of her left eye. With the orientation of her skull, we should see only half her left eye, if that. It should be more like the top left drawing in this.

Are you sure? Look at where her nose is; her face is pointed more toward the viewer than the picture you posted.

However, the view is kind of awkward and I think I'll probably change it so that she's looking more towards the man.

Its not as extreme as the one I posted, but if you look at the position of her chin on yours, its pointing towards the man more than it is at us. The eyes/nose were drawn in more of a frontal perspective, while the rest of the head was drawn from more of a side view. If you want to keep it facing the viewer, I think you'll need to move the chin and mouth slightly more to the left of the drawing, and draw more of her left cheek in. And then you'll have to make the left eye smaller so it doesnt fully go off the side of her face.

If you're going to make her look more towards the man, you'll have to draw the nose in more of a profile view, and make it closer to the outline of her face. And then do that same thing with her eye as I said before.

I got a wacom tablet for my birthday last year, but I've never really used it because I'm not that good with it. I'm better with pencil and paper lolz. ANYWAY. I've decided that if I don't learn how to use it, then I'm just a spoiled **** for having it, and worse than someone who has one just to draw Kingdom Hearts RikuxSora fanart. ANYWAY. Here's my attempt at not sucking with my tablet. As you can see, I kind of suck! What tablet do you have?

I'de try and use some harder edges, especially on the large highlight on the left (which is also kinda muddy, a single stroke of a block colour would have looked better I think than overworking it like that, I'de paint over it for you to show you what I mean but alas I am lazy)

I also wouldn't reccomend using any tutorials really... they tend to focus on "you must do it this way!" and usually aren't that great anyway, the best thing would just be to play around and experiment, have fun with it, and if you ever get stuck then find a photo of what you wanna draw and use that as your tutorial. Don't think you have to copy a drawing perfectly either, if something isn't working in the drawing for whatever reason then do it differently or leave it out altogether even, there are no rules

general eye things; the white isn't actually white, shade it as you would any other part of the drawing. Also, try and pay more attention to the brow and the facial structure around the eye, even just throwing down some quick tones around there can make the eye itself look a lot more realistic/3d

I'm sorry if I got to this thread late but I got a 4.3 GPA, 1520/1600 on SAT and 5s on most of my AP tests in high school and I never studied once OR did homework. I passed AP Calc with over 100 zeroes on homeworks I never did and now I go to one of the top five public universities in the country. I am the ultimate master of winging shit and will never be dethroned.

Of course I had to put the prizes on the mantel, in uni things are different and I have to study my ass off >.>

I wasn't using a drawing as reference but my own eyeball. I tried to do a bit of shading with the white of the eye but didn't want to overdo it? And I agree that the shading with the eyebrow and facial structure is sloppy. It was mostly an afterthought, the eyebrow especially.

I know what you're saying about not overdoing the shading on the eyes but honestly, they're barely white at all usually, everyone just thinks of them that way

Check this out for example, the eyes are more of a dark blue gray here, there's no pure white at all

That's good that you were trying to draw from life, it can be harder since it's not all there on the page already for you to just copy, but you will learn a lot more and a lot faster from it :) (not that there's not anything to learn from photographs)

The only things I'de suggest now would be to use a harder brush and play with the edges a bit to make stuff stand out more, it's all really wispy and soft. The eyebrow still looks kinda like an afterthought too but I wouldn't be that bothered about it really

See how a lot if it is really soft like your eye is, but then the imporant bits are brought into focus with a harder edged brush?

I have an independent study with the Great Stork for anatomy and physiology illustrations. I'm starting with the skeletal system, which basically means that I get to paw around in Stork's boxes of human and animal bones and make friends with the standing skeletons, all while passing off crude drawings of penises as academic endeavours. You think I'm kidding?
