In game commnunity problems

I cant get the in-game overlay to work.
I have to alt-tab out of my tf2 to talk to my friends.

I have enabled the option, restarted steam, changed the buttons and restarted again and again.

I have tried it after pressing esc while in game, in console, in normal game, not in a server. What else is there?

Please help me get it to work.

What happens when you press shift tab? also, make sure sticky keys are not on, they caused me trouble...

sticky keys is off, shift+tab=player scores.

I'm having this same problem, it also frustrates me to no end that TF2 doesn't have a "Friends" button in the main menu.

I have had the same problem a few times...

It always just goes away...
