For christmas, I usually ask some of my family members what vidya gaems I wants. I already got The Orange Box, but now I don't know of any PC FPS games out there.

Orange Box is the only game I bought this year, so I ask my fellow Hl2.netters of any ideas or recomended PC FPS out there.

:D

You do realise that October/November 2007 was probably the single biggest month ever in gaming?
Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, Enemy Territory Quake Wars are just some of the AAA and AA titles I can think of at 1 am

I would advise any from the list below. COD4, is my favorite by far. Bioshock is great. Hellgate: London surprised me. Episode 2 for HL2 is amazing. Episode 1 not so much. The more I play of Gears of War, the more i'm finding I like it.

1)COD4
2)Bioshock
3)Gears of War
4)Orange Box
5)Hellgate:London

SOF:Payback is a huge letdown & a stain upon the honor of the previous 2 games. Don't bother with it.

What was wrong with SOF: Payback? I haven't seen much on it.

I'd go for Crysis.

If you haven't played it, I'd heartily recommend Bioshock. It doesn't have a huge amount of replay value, but the first time through is amazing.

CoD4 is probably the easiest choice though. Cool singleplayer, though short, and probably the best first-person multiplayer yet. Pure addiction.

It was a budget title for the price of a real game, basically.

Something about Bioshock (I don't know what it is) it just turned off half ways through the game, I lost the interest and I can't force myself to go on and finished the game.
My last save is at the theater; where the performing guy gets killed, and that's it. I took the CD out of the drive, put it back in the box, and I just don't want to play it anymore. I don't know why.

What is it guys? Anyone feels the same?

COD4 and UT3

and I agree, Bioshock didn't really do it for me

I'd say go for Call of Duty 4 or Unreal Tournament 3 depending on what's more your style. I haven't played CoD4 so I can't really vouch for it myself, but I hear good things. I opted for UT3 since realistic guns and "tactics" in games aren't really my thing so I can vouch for it. It's great at what it does plus it looks and runs good. Fills my craving for frantic crazy bloodthirsty action since TF2 kind of threw that out the window compared to TFC (not that I don't love TF2!).

Bioshock was also alright. Short and I'm not running back to play it again, though. Crysis has been getting good reviews but I can't recommend it. Seems like it was made just to eat computers to me. I think both of those should be $30-40 games, really...

Oh come on you people knew for ages Crysis was a system breaker. Why are you whining?

Aye, Bioshock is a spectacular experience.

Bear in mind that no matter what game you choose from the suggestions (except perhaps Gears of War... FPS it most certainly isn't) you'll pick a winner.

CoD4 mP is better than a lot out there, but there's a real big drop off between how good TF2 is, and how good CoD4 MP is.

I would buy bioshock, I can't say I liked it as much as most people but it's one of those games which you have to have played.

If you want multiplayer I would go for CoD4.

The situation with UT3 reminds me a lot of the one with UT2k3, with so many complaints I think epic will rework it in a year ,remove and add a lot of stuff. Basically make the equivalent of UT2k4 for UT3.

Personally I'd suggest UT3 if you haven't already got it. Or crysis if you can play it. They're probably the two I'd want at the moment. Would prefer better hardware, however, but it's just waay to expensive for me at the moment.

Prior knowledge as to whether it was a system breaker or not is completely irrelevant... he can still justify disliking it for that reason. I see absolutely no reason for you to have posted this. I've known for years and years that Madden 08 would be a football game... and as I don't like football games, I still don't like Madden 08, despite knowing that it was a football game and having the chance to prepare for that fact before it was released.

CoD4 mP is better than a lot out there, but there's a real big drop off between how good TF2 is, and how good CoD4 MP is.

Being completely different games in both game play and style is probably the biggest factor here.

Whats the difference between COD4 and 2? Everything I've heard is either gimmicky or just updated graphics. I don't really see the appeal that has everyone crazed.

I never played previous COD multiplayer games, but having a sense of progression with unlocks for various challenges (which are fun to go for) and leveling up to unlock new perks to choose from is a HUGE plus to me.

It's so nice to be able to create your own fully customized classes with the exact weapons and perks you want. Since you have 5 custom class slots you can either go for a role-based approach in making them or you could make certain classes for certain maps and gametypes you play a lot.

For example - in Search & Destroy games you don't get to respawn if you die, so I like survival and stealth to creep around the map and pick off members of the enemy team. I have a class created for this specific mode. I go with the P90 w/ silencer (so when I fire I don't show up on the enemy radar), Perk 1 is Bandolier (extra ammo), Perk 2 is UAV Jammer (you don't show up on the enemy radar when they get a UAV), and Perk 3 is Dead Silence (make less noise running). This way I'm completely invisible on radar and if you can hear me, you're probably about to die :)

I'd go for Crysis.Everything. Enough so that it warranted an immediate return after only 10 minutes of gameplay.

It plays like a hybrid of CoD 2 and UO with a much greater proliferation of high power, controllable full auto weapons.

Both negatively and postivley there are no longer side specific weapons, provided you've got a class that uses them you can use any weapon while on any side.

It plays closer and faster than the previous CoD games tended to due to the full auto weapons and the reduction in the number of 1 kit kill weapons (at least in standard gameplay, in hardcore mode practically everything is 1 hit kills).

The game modes are back (FFA, TDM, HQ, search and destroy) along with a couple of new ones (i think, not absolutely sure, such as domination and sabotage).

Its different to the past games, but recognisable as a CoD game.

The level up system works like BF2s, but with more unlocks as this includes new challenges to complete, new perks and new weapons. Some are very cool additions and some are just plain annoying (*stares hard at the TK-o-matic which is the martyrdom perk*) but overall the MP expierience is good.
