I bought the game, got home, realized that there wasnt a game inside....drove all the way back, got a new copy, got home, installed it, went to enter the CD key and guess what, the last two digits are CUT OFF.
Is there any way I can find the key in the registry or something? Im not driving all the way back and if I cant get it im just going to use a key generator because this is bullshit.

im afraid i might start a fire in the store out of spite....theres gotta be a way to look up my key
you could keep typing in random numbers and letters...
You're going to have to drive back to the store if you want a game that works out of your $50. Sorry mate.

go back and demand that the game be for free since you've gotten 2 bad copies.
Might I suggest making sure you have a working, full-fledged, CD-key (and game disk) before leaving the store this time? :)
Also my Xfire is the same as my forum name, we should play some DM.

Yeah, there are only 1296 (36x36) possibilities, if there isn't a diffence between capital letters and normal letters.

Exactly. Open it as soon as you leave the store.

There are just 36 raised to the power 36 combinations left. That's a lot.

I always insist on opening it before I've even payed. They've no reason to refuse. If it's good, I'm buying it; if there's something wrong, it was going back anyway.

Sadly the game did ship in fighting shape with lots of people being effected by crashing and performance woes. Not to mention they overused the shit out of post-processing and bloom/distortion effects. They need to realize this is a classic series, not Gears of War 1.5
Luckily you can tweak the .ini files and eliminate most of the bloaty, useless, graphics effects.

How is the game a joke exactly? I thought the store would've been more of a joke...or the whole situation for that matter.

The store was responsible for the first annoyance, Midway/Midways Publisher is responsible for the second, which has affected many people.
So ya, I stand behind what I said.
Anyway, I ended up going back and finally getting a decent key. I really wish more companies would learn from valve with the way they distribute software.

Not sure why thats funny exactly, but if it gave you a giggle, all the power to you...had to see if anyone could save me a trip to the store

There are 630 possible combinations for the last two digits. Better get started!
EDIT:
Wait nevermind, I fail at math. :(

Wut? It's correct. There's 36^2 (1296) combinations when you have a collection of two characters that can consist of a number or a letter and when a character may occur more than once.
If you have one bit (1 or 0) there are two possibilities (2^1). Add another bit and there are 2^2 possibilities (4) namely: 00, 01, 10, 11. With three bits there are 2^3 combinations: 000, 001, 010, 100, 101, 110, 011, 111.

Boy... hearing people talk about combinations makes me remember fondly of a brief hobby I had figuring out the combinations on bicycle locks. Anybody had a bicycle lock they couldn't figure out the combination of, I'd solve it in usually 5 minutes or less. Sometimes I'd do multiples of them.
I don't know what it was about it, but it was fun.
1 1 1 1 1
1 1 1 1 2
1 1 1 1 3
1 1 1 1 4
1 1 1 1 5
1 1 1 1 6
1 1 1 1 7
1 1 1 1 8
1 1 1 1 9
1 1 1 2 1
1 1 1 2 2
and so on... heh.

The only thing coisting you is gas. But considering its gas, you're better off just going all hacker on UT3.

From your post, UT3 is not a joke as much as the store you bought it from. I would drive back there and demand that they pay for all the gas they have cost you, and also get a fully functional copy.

well like i said, the first trip back to the mall was definitely their fault....and in all likeliness, i would of received a working cd key. However, I guess ALOT of people had similar issues with the cd key being either missing or cut off.
So I guess the moral of this post is just make sure you are getting a working key. This was the first time ive ever had trouble with this stuff
