What are your favourite relaxing songs? At the moment mine would have to be Joe Satriani's Brother John because it has some beautiful guitar playing and the pacing is just perfect for chilling.

Awesome moment: Listening to all of Campfire Headphrase in bed, then drifting off just as Farewell Fire does.
Hmm.

It's actually an album but has some quality chilled out songs, absolutely fantastic prog rock band, influenced heavily by Dream Theater.

I listen to a shit-ton of relaxing/chillout/ambient music, so it's kind of a wide variety I could mention here... but I'll just note a few prominent albums that I consider exceptionally relaxing.

Biosphere - Substrata
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol II
Insofar as individual songs are concerned:
Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy
Aphex Twin - Blue Calx
Aphex Twin - Parallel Stripes
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
Zero 7 - In the Waiting Line
Zero 7 - Polaris
Zero 7 - Destiny

Oh and by the way, as much as Coldplay is well known, I just want to mention that their music is incredibly relaxing. A Rush of blood to the head will always be one of my favourite albums.
Also DJ Tiesto's new In Search of Sunrise album (no.6), the first disc is sooo relaxing and good background music for bumping uglies
Oh yes, that album was awesome. So many relaxing techno songs there...
The entire Shadows of the Sun album by Ulver is a good start.

Oh yes, echo is an awesome song.
God is an astronaut is incredibly relaxing as well. And surprisingly, no one mentioned Porcupine tree, some of their songs can literally put you to a long relaxing sleep. Hoobastank has many relaxing songs as well, such as Dissapear, If I were you, Waiting, More than a memory...

Yeah, he's basically a smash hit on YouTube. Good player, and nice, relaxing music. Kind of reminds me of some stuff from Liquid Tension Experiment, strangely.

Iron and Wine - now there's a bloke I've wanted to get into for a while. I keep seeing a huge collection of CD's in HMV and I'm always tempted to pick one up out of the blue. What would you consider his best or most accessible?
Also, This Will Destroy You need to release something new. Like... yesterday.

The only Iron and Wine cd I've listened to is The Creek Drank the Cradle, so I can't really compare to any of his other ones. That one has a lot of slow, acoustic folk music. Pretty nice, and it has "upward over the mountain" on it, which is my favorite. The songs could get kinda same-ish after a while though.
Looks like you can listen to all of The Shepherd's Dog on his myspace page (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=3800361). That album sounds a lot different from The Creek... seems he's gotten more people playing instruments, whereas The Creek was just him playing his guitar and singing.
As for This Will Destroy You... I might get to see them next week if I can manage to drag someone along with me.

If you pre-order, you can also get the shirt... the one with the "EPIC artwork".......
Explosions has left Texas off their schedule :(. But I'm guessing they'll add us in a little later, hopefully.

That's a sweet deal but if I'm quite honest with you I think that t-shirt/album design looks like crap. :( Not that I'd know except from films, but it looks like the kind of shirt you would see at some place in America like the Grand Canyon or some forest reserve, or some other tourist attraction.
Still, gonna order it anyway. Love Magic Bullet Records. Some great stuff on there.

Yeah, I think the design is meant to look cheesy patriotic as a joke. Especially when the vinyl comes in your choice of either "Red White or Blue" :P. I will probably get the cd and no shirt. Also on Magic Bullet -- if you haven't heard any Sparrows Swarm and Sing yet, check out their "O' Shenandoah" album. They sound kinda like Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
