As an art jerk (because hes too good!) acquaintance of mine says, reference photo's/images are the best.

If possible try and look at your own hand or have an image/photo of a hand for easy reference.

I don't quite remember the original image but I think those lines are supposed to be tendons/veins showing through the skin.
