Answering your question with a question, so I only give a hint:

What are the surfaces you can place portals on in that area?

This is the first level that I cannot solve, and it's frustrating. Your hint did not help me, as thinking in that way is default anyway. Closes I've come is by placing one portal close to the glass (back against glass when placing the portal!) and the other at the ledge, jumping into the first one to get to the ledge. Placing the one I came through again in the ditch below, and jumping in. But this doesn't give me the proper horizontal momentum to fly me over the glass wall.

Maybe you could provide a more detailed hint?

1. floor.
2. ceiling.
3. jump through floor.
4. floor.

Duh. How do you think I got this far without knowing THAT. If you can't be more helpful you should be quiet. Anyway I got impatient so I had a search and the point is you have to place one of the portals directly below you feet . This is new as of that level so I guess that's why I was stuck.

That is the solution to the puzzle...i was being helpful yet giving you a chance to work some of it out yourself.

Nitre was just trying to help you get the most out of the game. It's already short enough as it is, so using walkthroughs makes it even shorter. I'm happy to say I didn't use any outside help in Portal at all, and it was worth it.

Same here. I also completed the advanced tests with no help.
