After I have portaled myself to the platform above the fire, the woman tells me to drop the portal device and wait for my party member...and nothing happens...What do I do? Is that it? Do I just quit the game? Was that the ending?

Look up and escape the platform. Theres fantastic areas to visit and about 1 hour gameplay left. And remember, that cake is a lie! Well, not really ;)

Seriously though, you need to escape that area, using a bit of velocity thinking. :D

So Episode Two is about getting to White Forest... and Portal is about getting to Black Forest? O_o
