So I'm playing the game happily shooting evil combine, as soon as I enter the Root Kanal level it gives me a qucik message, "something node is incomplete, reparing." then after that disapears A message comes up and stays "A.I Disabled" And as I walts throught the level I see manhacks sitting in the air above reach, and as I progress trying to find out if this will happen in the next area I get to where the station person gives you the boat thingy. But I am stopped there for the person who should give it to me is frozen also. So I figure what the heck and I jump in anyways only that the door to release me is controled by the A.I. which has been disabled. So then I decided to go back and to my dispear the only saves were in the Root Kanal level. There is only one reason I can think of that could have caused this, as I opened up steam, and it had been a while, it updated, which was fine, but I think it was when I tried to open up Half-Life2 that it started. It said it was updating, and I think thats what may have caused it. My only question is why did the first 2 or 3 levels run flawlessly then?

Someone is going to do it anyways, So I'm gonna save me them the trouble.

"Don't pirate games"
or
"Reload the level"

Or open the console and re-enable AI from there.

Yes, there is a command to enable the AI but I think you can find that elsewhere. If you buy the game on steam there won't be such a problem.

He mentioned that he has Steam, so it's probably legit.

And it's "Route Kanal", not "Root Kanal". Valve level naming can get a bit... paradoxical? Is that the right word?

So if I say I have a Ferrari, then you'd believe that too, just because I said so...?

Some people just take being "gullible" and "easily misled" to a new level.

Welcome back, Shasta.

So how can a person tell you that he or she has a legit HL2 convincingly? Not mentioning Steam will lead to the assumption that pirate HL2 was brought. Mentioning having Steam will be presumed that he or she is lying. wtf.

There are PLENTY of ways. Screenshots of their Steam games list, with (for example) this thread right behind it, and their steam name etc visible - anything that they couldn't easily find on the net and then photoshop to suit. An actual camera photo of their HL2 box / disc (hide the serial of course) with a specific message HAND written next to it, like "see bbson john!" and the date next to it....

The list goes on really. Use your head. Anything that can't be easily found or faked helps.

You're right, but is it going to be a waste of my time to ask you to act nice?

I don't use my head, I use my brain.

It is too easy to falsify a Steam game screenshot, with photoshop and google image search around.

Funny, mine started doing this "AI Disabled" thing today too... so I came here to see wazzup, and lo and behold it is the first topic on the list. Coincidence, I think not. Bad automatic update from somewhere, yeah that can't possibly be it. :hmph: Riiiiiiight.

Anyway I fixed it by right clicking the game in Steam -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache, and after it churned for a few minutes, everything was good to go. Weird.

That's the best way for anyone with a LEGAL version of the game to sort it out, but pirates can't do that, and then ask for other ways to solve it - thus revealing that they are pirates.

That's why I said try and make it harder for them to fake it. Let's face it - depending on how good someone is, ANYTHING can be faked. Look at CGI effects in movies and photoshopped posters for god's sake. But we can at least go on the odds that we are NOT dealing with someone who works at ILM or some computer special effects studio, and make it as hard as possible to fake by asking for things like camera pics with hand-written personalised notes etc so they can't just do a google image search for a camera pic of a HL2 CD / box etc. I am very handy with Photoshop, so I personally would just come up with something that would satisfy ME that they have a legal copy of the game that I MYSELF would have trouble faking. Anyway, I just made some basic suggestions, and hoped you would get the idea WITHOUT me having to spell it out for you come up with and detail an exact, foolproof (as possible) scenario for you.

I'm rather pleased you've returned. Even though we got on the wrong side of each other, its great seeing you make the forum how it was when I first came in November last year.
