D: not easily pronounced... D-Colon gives people a way to say it uniformly, and also, given that D-Colon is merely a route to pronounce D: in the first place, there's no problem with spelling out colon but also using a dash.

No, it isn't.

We express D: as D-Colon. It would be a grammatical inconsistency if it was D-: that we were expressing, but it isn't. The dash is part of the easily-pronounced elongated form of D: and has nothing to do with the verbal expression of the actual D: whereas the colon does.
