I get owned by 3 enemies ..I can barely make it out alive and that's with using good cover/strategy ..they really are unpredictable at times
That's the truth and despite how incredibly close to impossible it can get at times, I love that part.
I really like the drawn out gun fights and the feeling I get when I survive one. I like how they can happen anywhere and usually the environment plays a significant role in it. As strange as it sounds I also like the limited amount of ammo they give you. It really drives the survival aspect home.

26-03-2007, 04:40 PM
yup and the fact that the gun can jam ..in most games I can go toe to toe with 3 enemies no problems ..but in stalker I really have to plan my assault
Yeah the gun battles in Stalker are awesome. The AI is also fantastic to. I love this game.
I just wish the knife was more useful at times.
I can't wait till the mod tools come out. The AI could use some tweaks though. For example, sometimes once i kill one person with a silenced pistol or knife and no one see's.... everyone knows where I am.
CrazyHarij

the gun jamming can get mighty annoying when you're fighting a psi monster or something and it jams several times in a row
but i deifnitely agree, the fights in the game are ****ing great.
CptStern
26-03-2007, 05:02 PM
it jams more often depending on the quality ...I always pick up guns even if I have it already and compare quality ...less chance of it jamming during those crucial moments
Oh yeah. I've had a guy come right around a corner at me. Tried to shoot. *Jam*. He has a shotgun and just blows me away.

What is the point of money? I'm kinda disappointed, I'm a pack rat in rpgs, I like hoarding stuff around to sell to npcs. But it seems pointless in this game, after three treks back to a trader and I realized I don't need money. And with the infinite resupply bug on corpses, there's never any shortage of anti-rads, bandages, ammo and what not.

you can buy information later in the game, and ammo gets expensive when you start having to spend almost all your ammo in a single mission for instance
you can never have enough medpaks either.. i like the fact that if you manage health and ammo properly you can get into missions much harder than you should be able to handle.. like venturing into the army warehouses when you're supposed to be at X18.. great way to stock up on cool weapons

anyone else find the stalker suit in the first village in cordon, the one right outside sid's place, where you start the game, where wolf is etc, its in one of the attics of the houses, i wont say which one ;) try and find it :)

also on the stashes, f.e i went to one east of the railway, it is very close to a fire where a couple of rookie stalkers sit and play guitar etc, there is a cross there, the info on the stash says its buried under the cross or something, i searched the cross as the option was available and found an artefact but the purple icon is still on the map, did i not find the actual stash? theres nothing else around :/

is that the 1 in the first house on the left hand side, the description says 'to wait for some1 to put something nice there' or some shite? if so its the destroyed house, its a small tin container, you go up the ladder and you will see it at the end of 1 plank, you need to crouch to get to it, i think thats it, not totally sure tbh...
the russian patch is out btw, saw it in the forums at oblivion lost or whatver its called...
btw shaker the suit is in the last house on the left side of the village or north side if you will, go up the ladder beside wolf but crouch-hug the wall and move along the side, then jump onto the roof, make a running jump onto the next house and look inside the cracks in this house's roof, you will see a box at the far end, there is a hole there too, shoot the box and crouch as much as possible to obtain the suit

The game has bugged and I could never complete the chef quest.
I was going into the area with the chef and died, but I had saved the game a few seconds before. So I reloaded it, however I had already triggered the events that happen in there so all the guys that would normally be standing there willing to talk ended up running towards this scripted sequence.
So then I had to do the sequence with them and keep an eye on the chef, then after the scripted part ended the chef's 'talk to me' options are all gone; my only choices are, "tell me something interesting" and "thanks bye"....so now I can't ever complete that quest.

wow i just quicksaved and had to post this, still in cordon :P
anyway i decided to scout the military outpost to the south of cordon, 3 military soldiers spotted me and opened fire, i engaged them and managed to take out two, i just finished looting the corpses for ak ammo when i looked to see up to 10 or more army soldiers heading out from the outpost to me, i did what i could to take them on but with limited ammo fled to the stalker camp....
well shiT!!! they followed me, to the south of the camp they came taking up position on the small hill looking into the camp, my fellow stalkers, 3 experienced stalkers including wolf and the rest of the rookie stalkers began to engage them, we were getting torn apart, i had taken up position in the central house in the series of houses to the south. All around i could hear the screams of the young inexperienced stalkers going down...
they had tried to engage at close range with their pistols and sawn-offs but were ripped into by the military's aks. I saw a growing number of orange dots indicating living stalkers turning grey, i looked to the north of the village and noticed the 3 more experienced stalkers including wolf firing controlled bursts from their aks...but it was doing no good, i had no ammo for my ak as i cowered in the destroyed house, then i suddenly got my nades, all 7 of them and began hurling them at the small hill where the military where firing on us from...
all i could see was the muzzle flash of their aks from behind the bushes. With each grenade that went off i could see on my minimap red dots turning to grey, the first nade took out atleast 3 army guys, each one after that killed or wounded atleast 1 more, i peeked out from behind cover to see my final one explode and illuminate the surrounding area sending 1 soldier flying.
The battle waged into the night, i could see the shadows created by wolf's flashlight to the south of me, he and his two fellow more experienced stalkers were still enagaging the reinforcing soldiers, i dared to move outside only to be confronted by a military soldier, he fired a burst from his ak wounding me only for a rookie stalker to blow him away at close range with his sawn-off, i took cover and checked the mini-map, i could see more orange dots appearing, REINFORCEMENTS from north were coming, in ones and twos. We had defeated the military in this battle, i then quicksaved and came here to tell the story :p
now i will go back to see who survived and those that werent so lucky
GAME WINS!

That sucks... Well I could always correct the mistakes I made first time through..
This game is awesome though...the world is always changing and evolving.
Once I was assigned by wolf to go kill some bandits, went to go find him up by the military warehouses to get my reward, and found his dead body in one of the fire pits. First quest I failed :-\
And I hate the invisible ****ers.... I killed some freedom folks in an abandoned town, and walked in further. That's when I noticed that there were no more troops, no creeps, nothing. Seconds later I'm surrounded by 6 blood suckers. Ran like hell.
This game is amazing...so many stories I could tell. There's so much to do and I haven't even entered the zone itself yet.

Im surprisingly not pissed about the save files not working actually. I wouldnt even mind starting over completely. The game is so damn fun.
It might also have something to do with the fact that I just entered the secret lab, and am too ****ing spineless to go forward. I was walking around down there, and some freaking creepy mutant jumped out of some fire, creepy crawled towards me, lept up to the ceiling and attacked me. I literally said "WHAT THE ****?!?!" and couldnt even shoot because I was so scared. I just hit escape and quit.

Which suit is the SEVA suit ? I had the Stalker suit, but since came across a duty suit in the lab that you visit prior to going to X18, which has slightly better attributes than the stalker suit, and seems to do a pretty good job of protecting from gunfire. Also got hold of the scope, which i currently have equipped to Strelok's AK74, and also picked up the AK74 with grenade launcher attachment. Might have a look for that desert eagle that was mentioned on the prior page. Loving this game so far, so much better than anything i've played of late. A little concerned about meeting more mutant creatures in the near future though, i'm not one for scary things, they make me jump xD

It's pretty good I spose. It's neat how as you progressively gain levels (mercenary, experienced mercenary, etc etc) they start giving you better guns.
Only got to the .45 before I left though :\

oh i dont know if i wanna patch it :/
anyway continuing on from the battle lastnight...
i counted just under 20 corpses in the stalker village, mostly rookie stalkers, outside the village on the hill was up to 10 more military dead, the place was littered with the dead,
left alive was 6 more stalkers, 1 was nimble, throughout the entire battle nimble cowered in the house he sleeps in. i could hear his whimpers as i passed by it. After the battle he went back to sleep and seemed to be having nightmares..
i was able to save 1 stalker, a rookie, i found him in one of the houses lying wounded, i gave him a medpack and he was saved he shows up as a green icon on my map now...
after this i headed down to the military outpost, 3 soldiers were there, it was still night, thunder and lighting, the flashes lighted up the environment, i killed 2 soldiers and then headed into the main building, i soldier was still engaging me and another reinforced from the barracks.
i killed one and then the second got the jump on me, he had flanked me and came up behind me, he nearly killed me but i managed to unload into him with my ak, he flew back into the fire in the building and went up in flames, his corpse still lies in the fire now...
i looted the outpost and found a secure briefcase, i cant open it and have no idea what is inside. I checked my statistics and noted i had killed the military captain of the outpost. I headed back to the stalker village, it was morning, there were atleast 13 stalkers now in the camp. i traded and then began walking to the garbage...

So I installed the patch, figured I'd start over and avoid failing timed missions this time around but I noticed something strange...
Armor decays when it takes hits? the blue actually diminishes after each gunfight. Although they did add more body armor drops in the game, bandits now have a chance of dropping bandit armor. But still, it's annoying that you can't repair your stuff.
Yeah, would love to be able to repair my shit. My weapons before i patched were starting to get pretty dodgy, especially my silenced AK D:
Repair would be very cool to be able to do :D
And you can get Bandit armour from dead ones! :O

Its funny, by the time i got the game and decided to start over after an hour of screwing things up i had found the patch had been posted online. Game runs nice and smooth for me now and no artifacts when it rains.
FYI, under the agropom complex in Strolek's stash room there is a custom AKM 74 that is a hell of a lot better than a lot of the later assault rifles.
As for strategies, i've given up on even having a pistol, i just carry an assault rifle with a different one that uses a different ammo pool as backup. Normally single fire is the name of the game since you need it for those headshots. Exept when fightign the tougher mutants, i.e. bloodsuckers and up. Then its spray as much lead as you can before they rip you apart.
As far as degrading armor is concerned, its not too bad. By the time any of my armor has been damaged even a tiny bit, I've usually found some other armor lying about.
Lastly, is anyone else here really freaked out by "controllers" the ones that try to steal your mind with psychic attacks? Cause the first time that happened in the underground tunnels, it scared the shit out of me.

Torrent died on me several times, so I just went out and bought it.
I am highly dissapointed. It has a great atmosphere and all, but it is really a shadow of what it could have been. I am especially dissapointed with the low res textures, models and animations, as well as the piss poor aiming. Still, one of the scariest games I've played (mainly due to the fact that my guns are completley useless), and has a very nice atmosphere.
I find the guns in this game great actually. I often carry an scoped assult rifle to take off guys far away. When I am running low on ammo or guys get close I just pistol head shots. Works quite well. I like the combat in this game, it's not "pop head shots and pwn".

Anyone have tips on using the knife? The range on the thing is EXTREMELY short, I can't even knife a dog without having to crouch and aiming directly at the head. Reason to use it is that it dispatches bandits pretty quick if you can get close to actually use it. One stab to the head and they're dead.

I wish people would stop complaining about the accuracy. Get late into the game and get some decent fire arms. You start out with a pistol ffs don't expect to be uber godly.

The first one I ran from didn't even realize the bastard was there apart from the loudness of it all. The second one jumps out at you after turning off the first psi emitter. I immediately shot that guy in the head and he dropped.

If you shoot any more than a 3 round burst then you wont hit shit. I always have my guns on single shot mode so that I can hit shit. The only time i have it on auto is when I am in close areas such as tunnels or buildings. Someone posted a video of them trying to kill someone and complained about how they were so innacurate. This isnt CS, you cant just hold the mouse button down and expect to hit anything.

Yeah, but it's still kinda hard when the weapon does often not hit where you aim, especially at medium and high range. :|
As for the knife, it seems a bit dodgy, but in one go at the first "kill the bandits" mission my BF2 skills payed off when I shot a guy a few times with a pistol, emptied the clip at the moment when he started staggering, took out my knife and knifed him in the face :D
Funny thing - I stabbed the first bloodsucker I encountered, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to kill it. I noticed some strange distortions near a pillar and sneaked up to it. Who's the stealthy one, bitch? ;)

The ranges aren't usually that extreme in CS either though. Some of the guns in STALKER are incredibly accurate, maybe even more so than CS once you get used to them. You can't spray and pray from extreme distances in CS, just like STALKER.
If a CS player tries to spray anymore than 2-3 bullets down Long A in Dust2 you're not going to hit much, especially with an AK. M4 might allow 3-4

The shooting mechanics are the most serious drawback in the game for me. I'm used to games where I can kill someone in a few shots and often, especially at medium and long range shooting in single shots pays off.
In STALKER, I found out that I'm having more success spraying at someone. Let's say there's someone 20m away from me. I aim through the iron sights. I can fire single shots which deal little damage; often don't hit and it takes some time before the enemy goes down. However when I point at the enemy and start shooting full auto, it goes down quickly. I don't like that.

Are you compensating for gravity?
Also Unfocused, ammo can become really scarce during missions. I remember one mission I was literally down to my knife and started killing guys with that. Spraying guys wastes ammo. Try and get the head shots.
I'm not bad with the knife. During the first rebel-assult mission I killed everyone with it with very little life loss. Was great. Then during the final-qualification round in the arena where you only have a knife and some nades and the other dude was basically pimped out in shit. Got him with only using the knife.

Right because CS is horribly unrealistic. Anyone that claims CS is realistic should be blindfolded, tied to a tree, and the tree set on fire as metal claws tear his or her stomach open and rip the intestines out.
I do wish however that guns in STALKER did more damage...sometimes you get 1 shot 1 kill but most of the time you don't.

Which is how its supposed to be because of their armor. If you take a late game gun and attack rebels with it, their armor doesnt do shit against it and you can take them out easy. Same goes for the other way, weak guns vs heavy armor. I just tried taking out the military checkpoint at the newbie place, and I just had a pistol and shotgun. I used all my pistol rounds, two grenade (which killed most of them) and some shot gun shells to take them all out. Which is how it should be, because they have heavy armor.
I'm surprised. I love this game.
Unlike most fps to date, to survive you have to assume the AI will play as though they are real, unpredictable people, and not the usual routine following robots. Yes, it has it's dumb bunching-together-looking-at-sky moments (nothing a grenade in the middle doesn't fix), but i'm still being amazed by the spookily lifelike tactics these digital buggers adopt.
It's uncanny just how similar to online BF2 the firefights are. Cheats n' all.
Cheating is annoying, but if you're used to online gaming, it's easy to accept the occassional cheat shot from an AI. And comfort can be obtained by knowing that this AI can be smarter than the average online script-kiddie.
Real life pwned by teh robotsez. Woo.

Are you compensating for gravity?
They're not hundreds of meters away, nor am I firing tank shells at them, so I don't think there's need for that.
As for saving ammo, I don't have a problem with that, but then again I still tend to shoot people with single shots rather spraying (which works well here). I also tend to use weapons popular in a certain area. For example I started using some rifle which most people had at the railroads, instead of my AK, cause I knew I won't run low on ammo for it.
BTW I was playing at the railroads, where you have to help some scientist reach a certain location and it was one of the most frustrating parts ever. I gave up and failed the mission, I hope there won't be any major consequences. It's just plain dumb, about 10 mercenaries come rushing at the scientist which decides to crouch in a corner, prone to enemy fire, and fire a pistol at them. It's probably not impossible to save his ass, but I've quickloaded and either died or had the scientist die too many times to bother anymore o_O.

I'm finding zombies and snarks a real bitch at the moment. I'm about to enter Lab X16 and there's a helluva lot of them in that area. At first I got easily frightened by the snarks but eventually I just thought "f*ck it!" and now I'm the one rushing after them with my shotgun, or knife.
As for zombies, they're tough as hell. As long as I can pick them off from a distance with single-shots I'm alright but it still consumes alot of ammo, the type that is hard to find in that area.
All in all, despite the frustrations with some enemies it's a real nice game. Much better game as well as atmosphere than Far Cry.

Oh well, no SEVA suit for me.
Anyone else had some problems with the Arena? I'm on the fight with those two Spetznaz guys and it literally takes a clip for each to take them down (and shooting at the head doesn't do much, probably doesn't hit there). For example I rush right away, spray at one of them, he turns his back at me and starts running away, I shoot at his back, he staggers, regains balance [I'm still shooting; 5 meter range), I run out of ammo, he runs away. I'm playing on Veteran difficulty BTW.
EDIT: http://media.putfile.com/wtf-44-70 - wtf I'm shooting at him and he doesn't even blink, just calmly approaches me while shooting his gun. ><

New nVidia-drivers coming soon
Relating to Firingsquad.com, nVidia will release a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-optimized graphics-driver for the GeForce 8 - series next week.
The new optimized driver should increase the performance especially on GeForce 8800GTX cards, because these cards aren't much faster than their "little brother", the 8800GTS, when playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with current available drivers. Additionally the new driver should provide the missing SLi-functionality in the game.

When they come back do the new members know you wiped out the entire base?? Do they start shooting at you onsite??

They're all actually flocking back, as though they got a call that their base was under attack.

Hmmm... finally beat it. I kinda want to play through Pripyat and Chernobyl with godmode on just so I can take it all in without rushing and getting shot at. From what I saw, the detail is fantastic. It's just so realistic and decrepit.
After all of my Duty buddies were slaughtered in a failed dawn attack on the Freedom HQ, I decided to return the next day to repay the debt. With Interest.
Once inside the walls, my VLA Special silently took down a sentry walking the perimeter. If I hadn't taken out the tower snipers during the previous raid, things would have been much... noisier.
I headed to the right and made for the cover of a couple of dead APC's, where I found the bodies of two Duty and a Free. Nearby was a dropped GP 37, a hi-tec piece of kit strangely out of place in such a decimated environment such as the Zone, it was slick, light, and from what I'd heard, handled extremely well. I was getting heavy so said a fond farewell to my backup weapon - an old Viper that I had carried since the first raid way back at the cordon - and shouldered my new special friend.
Around the corner, two grenades took out the guards at the door. No alarm was raised, nobody came running, but I was careless to miss the dark shape of a Free lurking in the dim light just inside the door and a shotgun emptied in my general direction, making me jump and my ears ring but amazingly missing any vital organs. The soldier paused to reload and I stuck my crosshair on his chest and watched him fly backwards in a short strobe of muzzle flash.
The ground floor was empty save for a corpse in the workshop to the left, so I took some time to explore and hit the jackpot.
A secured room filled with armour, ammo and weapons was just too good to ignore - stuffing two of three stalker suits (one of them a rather tasty Kombez Freedom M2 with night vision and electro shielding) into my pack along with all the bullets I could pick up. My supermarket sweep was short lived however, and shouts rolling across the compound told me that I was in trouble. The motion tracker began clicking like a geiger counter.
The stairwell was my only chance, a bottleneck that had saved me many times in the past, although against much dumber opponents than these. It would have to do. At the top I reloaded and waited for them to come.
Five minutes later, I was rooting through nine corpses for bullets - but more were coming, ricochets were pinging off the walls outside but no lucky bullets penetrated the concrete. Not this time, anyway. At the top of the stairs I emptied clip after clip and the bodies piled up. A couple almost made it to the landing during reloads, like they actually heard me slapping in the mags and took it as an invitation to introduce themselves. Smart buggers.
My trigger finger became tired after at least 30 Free lay beneath me in a heap and my gun was starting to jam with every burst. I resorted to frag grenades to hold off the seemingly endless stream of reinforcements, and in a brief let up after one nade took out several Free, I had the chance to grab a new GP 37 before making my escape through a handy hole in the wall behind me.
Even loaded down as I was with goods from the armoury I still managed to dodge the bullets and drag myself to the sniper tower near the breach in the compound wall, at the base of which I stopped long enough to grab an SVU mk2 Sniper rifle from a crumpled sniper's dead hand along with a few bullets. I left behind the bloody stairwell and the frustrated shouts of my pursuers, returning to the 100 Rads, half of the spoils of my raid selling for a hefty bounty, the other half loaded and hanging over my shoulder ready for tomorrow's hike to Dark Valley.

Blah, blah, blah
F*ck that shit. I just went in with my G36 and cleaned house. Sniping fools is so satisfying. I killed easily 100 Freedom guys, if not more. The total count was hard to figure because I also cleaned out their outpost. Suffice it to say, my framerates dropped incredibly in that house, because there were at least 60 bodies piled up in there, most in the doorway and that hall.
And attacking Duty's base just plain sucked. So few guys it was pathetic compared to the all-out slaughter at Freedom's base.

Spoilerish I spose (i'm about to ask about right after the brain scorcher)
k, so I just shut off the brain scorcher, and the guy from the bar is telling me I should meet up with the band of experienced stalkers in pripyat, so I can get to the monolith before anybody else.
Now, I really want to go back to the bar to get supplies, and my PDA is telling me to meet up with some guy called the guide. So, i'm not really ready to head out to Chernobyl just yet, but I don't want to lose out on any really good items if I decide to wait.
Can I take my time at this point, or will I be punished somehow if I head back to the cordon and the bar and wait awhile? Will it just change which ending I get?
I must say though, the section right outside of the brain scorcher gate, with all the wierd ghosts comming out of the ground, was SCARY AS HELL! Inside of the brain scorcher facility scared the **** out of me too. You can't believe how shitless I was when I was walking around and kept hearing something growl. I KNEW there was something in there, I just didn't know where it was. I kept walking through the pitch black with my flashlight on and thinking "omg omg omg, it's in THIS room isn't it???".
Then I eventually found the room, but not the monster. I could hear it in the room but couldn't see it still, so I reloaded my rifle and just then I see the outline of a cloaked bloodsucker run at me and I went "OMG AHGHGHGHGHGHG" and just unloaded into it.
It recloaked and hid behind some machinery. Damn, it was pretty hard for me to muster the strength to go back there behind the pile of equipment and kill it D:
And then in another section, I was walking down a hallway, and I saw a bloodsucker, uncloaked, run from one room in the hallway to another (basically across the hall infront of me). I ****ing jumped and started shooting into all the rooms wildly D:
normal is called stalker, I'm playing on master. Gunfights are brutal.

I've got savegames from 2 scenarios - me teaming up with the Duty and wiping out the Freedom camp and me teaming up with Freedom and wiping out the Duty camp :P Now I'm thinking which savegame should I continue from. I think I like the Freedom fellas more, though they don't look as cool as the Duty. Any suggestions?
BTW, the respawning of the Freedom guys is a bit annoying, after cleaning out their base with the Duty, they started respawning before I finished looting, so it was a bit strange to see someone calmly walk into a building while I was on my way out, then encountering a few guarding it outside. When I was exploring the base afterwards I had a few more respawn and had to fight my way out. But the G36 kicks ass, finally a good weapon.
Is it possible to officialy join the factions? I've done all the mission Lukash gives me and there's no option to join them. Also, how can I get to the armory at the Freedom base? I tried shooting the padlock but that doesn't work. Haven't found a key on any of the corpses.
EDIT: Anyone knows any good STALKER forums? The official one has been closed for maintenance since I got the game. Great timing, right after the game release.

What you should be saying is "Don't have X amount of by by X amount of time". Telling use to spend money whenever possible is bad. I know of something that costs over 100k that i'd like to buy. In order to get this I need to load up on cash.

The arrow just points in the absolute direction of where you need to be. It doesn't actually show you the path you need to take to get there, which often times goes in the exact opposite direction of where the arrow is pointing to.

k, so I can't decide if I should switch from my GP37 (G36 in real life) to a TRS 301 with a scope and a grenade launcher.
The G36 does slightly more damage than the TRS, has a higher handling rating, and has a higher rate of fire, but I can't mount an M203 on the G36 without using a modified config file, and even then the animations are severely bugged (to the point of making it unusable).
I have nearly 20 grenades stashed away.
Both have about same accuracy.
The grenades would be infinitively useful, and would allow me to stop carrying around hand grenades. It'd be really nice to just quick switch to the nade launcher rather than fiddling through the different types of hand grenades I have, and waiting for the switch animation to finish.
Then again, grenades are fairly rare, and the customized TRS is about a kilo heavier than the G36.
CANNOT DECIDE D:

As for what assault rifle to carry, i just lighten my load up and carry two. Sell whatever artifacts you don't plan on using, sell yourself down to 5 nades, dump the 20 medkits you have down to 5, dump the 20 rad kits down to 5, only keep a single can or sausage, ditch your pistol and its ammo, bring along the extra assault rifle, and everything else should be ammo for your 2 assault rifles.
Also if you have space to spare, carry around spare armor. There's no point in letting bandits screw up your rare high tech pricey armor, bring along a cheaper suit if you can to wear when you aren't you know, trying to fight your way through chernobyl

LOL, I just noticed my reputation is "terrible", so I backtracked in my savegames to determine when it became such and it appears that massacring the Army outpost in Cordon, to get a quest item, brought my reputation from "excellent" to "terrible". Oh well, I tried to play it stealthy at 5am in the morning, but turns out the Army gets up early :>

It wasn't the army outpost. Definitely not the army. In fact you gain overall reputation by killing the military. Must have been something else you done :p
I fed my character 47 bottles of vodka and light kept surging in and out of vision and he was wobbling side to side. It was like I was in a boat.

Is there anywhere in the game where you can safely stash items? I was thinking of storing them in a random stash I pass by frequently but I bet the items will disappear at some point. I've got some health packs and ammo I want to store for a rainy day as it's too heavy to carry around all the time.
Any stash will do, mine is in the bar. Very convenient.
Finally did X18. Does anyone know what you have to do to get into the Duty base by the bar? The guy just forever says a load of shite about being at war with Freedom.
You have to do x16 first.
How far are you into the game, Narc?

Is there a pause in the action? I want to just roam around a bit, but still want to complete the tasks. It seems like every time I complete a task, another one is started. Also, do you know of a comprehensive guide to the game? A field guide to all the weapons, artifacts, creatures, etc.?
There are no time limits to storyline missons, so you can do then when ever you please. I usually do a storyline mission and do a couple side missions and what not.
The GameFaqs "STALKER" page has a fairly good guide. I'm not sure how comprehensive it is, but I know it does contain weapon and armor listings, as well as a walkthrough.

to my knowledge it's a 100% safe. I picked the cross with the gas mask on it at the duty base. Pretty good location.
Same.
Nice and in the middle of everywhere.
Although I HAVE heard that if the area you put your stuff in gets enough traffic, you'll see a few of your items dissapear, and a few new ones pop by every so often.
Dunno if it's true, but if it is, then the area seems fairly traffic free.

I already carry two rifles. One un-silenced and un-scoped assault rifle for general combat, and a scoped and silenced rifle for sneaky and long range kills.

I know you get points for doing that, I'm #1 Stalker atm, but killing soldiers at the Outpost was the only thing I've done between two saves where in the former my rep was "excellent" and in the latter - "terrible". Maybe I'll load the one before attacking the Outpost and see for sure if that's it.
My first thought was that I lost rep after killing manyb Freedoms for the Duty, but that's not it.

I hate those damn bloodsuckers. It's not so bad when you're half expecting to run into one in a lab or out in Rostok, but I was just minding my own business searching around for a Duty suit which apparently is in one of the basements in Dark Valley. I started searching the buildings around the bandit base, and on the upper floor of one, I found a wounded stalker. I'm just about to give him a medpack when I hear that heart-wrenching growl behind me, I spin around and see the red eyes charging at me through the doorway, fire off the last 15 rounds of my magazine into it but the bastard got me while I was trying to switch to my shotgun. :(

hi just got stalker
however it runs like shit and it also freezes quite often so i have to load it back up again
my pc is amd 4400, 1 gig low latency ram, ati 1900 gt
however i have had to put the game on medium settings on 800x600 with dynamic lights on, because any higher it lags like a bitch
This surely cant be right i mean ive got a high end gaming machine and i cant play any where near maximum
i know having dynamic lights takes away some fps but surely i shudnt be playing at this low level of detail with my machine
i have latest cat drivers and latest stalker patch

I have an 1900 gt and I get 10-20 fps out of combat with dynamic lighting on. You should turn it off, and turn up other settings.

But most importantly you should get another gig of ram.

Lots of people are having the same problems even me. I think its my vista and display drivers cause if you go to the vista forums there are thousands of people having the same issue. :(

Yeah, I'm on XP and the game will totaly lag out for a few seconds every now and then, pretty much like it does when I quicksave.
Doesn't seem to be big deal right now though.

You were right, Gunner, it has got nothing to do with the Army Outpost, turns out I didn't do that quest in between those two savegames after all.
I've no idea what caused it now, the only thing I did (that I can think of) in between the two saves, was travelling from the Trader in Cordon to the Barkeep. What would I have to do to bring my reputation from excellent to terrible? o__O What influences reputation anyway? Maybe I'm a victim of a bug? ;| I don't feel like going back a few hours in gameplay now, so I guess I'll probably face a worse ending or something.

Well if it's any comfort, the "best" ending doesn't factor in your reputation :)
Oh and Halem don't go around, just kill them! They have those ak-su models, I don't know what they're called but they're good weapons to start with.

As far as i know you can only go through the bridge cause there are fences all around keeping you from going through. Just do what i had to do many times RUN LIKE HECK you will be fine they have bad aim anyways.

Woot! Just beat it on Veteran difficulty (unpatched- didn't want to start over again). The false endings are lame, but the real endings are FAR more satisfying (I got both).
Oh, and Adrik, just shoot the shimmery thing that lights the fires.

ok i got to sewers jus after army camp
but there is like 4-5 ppl in the first room
the difficulty is only on stalker and i die every time how on gods earth you meant to take on a gang of ppl in stalker
the accuracy is so bad that you cant pop them off with headshots
also i know the general advice is if u come up against a gang, hide behind something and then take them out but this way always loses lots of health whilst they shoot at me while im shooting at one of their ppl ....yes i have bandages but if every time i came across a gang i had to use like 6-7 bandages just to survive surely my bandages wont last for long
any advice would be welcome as its bloody hard

Buy from the Barkeep, or the guy at cordon.
Whenever I encounter a gang of people I usually just hide behind something and lean to the left or right depending on which side im on. Most of the time they can't hit me.
Also, is it me or did the zombies in yantar have incredible aim, despite the fact that they were you know..zombies.
