As the title says... we need to know if we should have a leader for the project. Before you vote please read what everyone has said so far, so you can make a good decision. Also, once you have made up your mind tell why, so that others can see your reasoning.

Ill hold off on voting until after the first few votes are in, so that i dont start the thread with a bias.

First of all: Yes

We should have a single "leader" to help organize and control the "flow" of the project. Having completely independent groups for each aspect is going to slow things down.

On that note, I don't believe that the "leader" should be a "dictator", but rather a person that can make the final call on things that are important to the progression of the mod. With, of course, the input of others.

I vote no. I see no reason to have a leader; let the people who are willing and able to help organize things step up and do so, but a leader has no place in a project that's being contributed to by an entire community. I think we should stay far away from heirarchies of any sort and just let people give what they can. If we have problems doing that, we can THEN elect a leader, but I think we should give it a go as a collaboration first. I don't see why we'd need a leader given that the decisions are not being made by a single individual. A leader should be contingency, not the primary modus operandi.

Shouldn't you guys have a way of preventing people not committed to the project from voting? Or at least reveal who voted for what? I know technically it's a community project, but decisions should surely be made by people who didn't hear about the whole thing 6 hours ago :P

IMO, making things democratic just delays procesess with lots of faffing about. Like having to establish votes for every little aspect of everything going... kind of like this thread itself :P (or the UN ^^)

i say Yes, a Leader could organize the team, so everyone know what exactly he should do.

There needs to be someone who has a final say on what is to be done ofter discusions have been had on any particular aspect of the project. Being a community project there will be a lot of random ideas many of which will not suit the final style or premis of the game. Secondly when votes to happen there needs to be someone that says yes this IS what is happening, a final say, all the people that voted different to the vote may well be pretty pissed off and totaly disigre with the final desision so there should be a greater power that says tough shit.

As with all projects like this there needs to be someone to organise people, a person who knows what everyone is involved doing and have sight of the final goal so they can push people to compleat work. I would suggest we work in small teams compleating small parts of the mod and then sticking all this work together at the end. The leader would then organise the groups and bring the final work together.

In most cases, I'd say that a leader for a mod is unnessisary. But if this project is going to have a very large team there at least needs to be someone to keep check on everyone and keep things organised. A dictator is defenatly not needed.

A leader would keep order, and keep everyone up to date. A leader doesn't automatically mean a totalitarian dictatorship.

Well, I have no problem with a leader if that's what ends up winning the vote, which it looks like it will. I say we go about electing one by nominating leaders (not frivolously) and then voting.

People can take lead of different areas themselves, if everyones involved in the running of the mod, it will run better I think.

Alrighty, at this point the poll appears fairly decisive, so let's move on to nominating candidates. I honestly do not mind who we have as long as they aren't a jackass and are well competent.

I'd say we should have to have 2 people nominate the same person for them to be considered, IE someone say "Whoever" and another say "I second that". I'm going to refrain from nominating, I'd rather just vote.

Vegeta made a post recently suggesting that we should start some sort of community project

Though I might as well just say this, I think it would be cool if we did community involved creative shit... Make something together, or at least be involved in whatever is made. A giant collaboration of stuff, like music, flash, art, anything, all combined into one or several episodes of a flash movie or something. Just anything that can let the real hl2.netters recall the good times and enjoy the current ones, and feel more together as a community.
