Screen way too Dark

I have a HP system with 1gb mem, amd4200 dual core processor and a EVGA nvidia 7300gs video card. I have turned the game brightness (gamma?)all the way up and it is still way too dark to play most parts (except in outdoor daytime scenes). My system ran Fear no problem and I could adjust brightness in that game. I have the latest nvidia drivers so I am kinda stuck. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. The game would be awesome if I could just see where I was going.

Half Life 2 doesn't work like that. In areas of total darkness, there is no ambient light to amplify by upping your gamma.

PS: Have you thought of upping your monitor brightness?

There should be a way to up the brightness/gamma through your video card control panel. At least, you can do that with ATI's drivers.

Check the settings on the monitor itself too.
