Somewhat interesting.. I'm still looking forward to Stalker but I'm not really 'excited' too much.

"What is the "re-playablility" level of the game: will re-playing the game with a character with differents properties make a difference, and are the environments opened enough not to feel doing the same things again? A: Hard to say, though there are different factions, the character has no strong specializations, so maybe 1 time is enough."
Wow, that's dissappointing, one of the most major features they still had going for STALKER was that it was supposed to be replayable with no persons experience being the same as another one.. I really hope it isn't true that just 'one time' is 'enough'..
Oh well, Metro 2033 anyway, this game is a SHADOW of it's former self.*Pun intended*

If they just left in the goddamn vehicles, I'd still be as excited. Walking through the entire Zone just seems like it would take too long.

Stalker is going to have to be absolutely f*cking spectacular to justify its development time and the fact that they're torn out so much of the stuff that made it exciting in the first place D:

GameStar was allowed to play the nearly complete version of the game in it's own offices, without the publisher looking over its shoulder. The preview looks at the good and bad sides of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and, at last, gives it the rating of "Excellent", which is its highest praise for a preview."

any way STALKER is great game, and I am going to download it and play it like hell. :D :D

Gorgon, you're a ****ing ass you know that? You spend so much cash on your ****ing computer, yet you can't spend like 40 dollars on a computer game that has spent over 6 years in development? Sorry, but I had to say that because that really pisses me off.
Asshole.

I do not buy all my games, but at least I do not act as if I was proud of this... I noticed that in many of your posts, as if you were bragging about pirating games :|

Remus, sure I have a few bootleg MP3s and a few hobby use apps on my PC, but all my games are legit. Being an avid gamer I appreciate the hardwork that goes into games, and I don't steal from the people whose efforts bring me pleasure. If I'm not prepared to pay full wack for a game, I'll wait until it hits budget.

Agreed Gargantou...
I buy every single game, because I really respect game developers work. They really deserve their hard-earned cash. If I don't have the cash, I don't get the game. It's as simple as that!

No vehicles makes me want to not bother, mainly because I don't want to walk for 30 minutes to get to my next quest.

I pirated both Max Paynes, and Far Cry, and Starcraft, and Simcity, and a few other games, and about a month or so after pirating, I end up buying the game to support the developers.
Well, not Far Cry yet, but that's because I don't have any money.

Gargantou
29-01-2007, 04:53 AM
I really don't care that much about people pirating, poor people etc, but Gorgon goes around and buys his expensive comp and upgrades it alot with very very high-end hardware, yet he can't be bothered to buy a game he thinks is going to be great? Now that's just lame. I sorta wish it was against the rules saying that you are going to pirate something.

But seriously >_> Eh. I'll wait till the price drops before I buy it. Unless I hear from all my friends that its all kinds of awesome.

lack of vehicles doesn't bother me too much. If they were in the game you'd end up driving full speed into anomolies without even knowing.
I guess they removed them rather than having them be immune to the effect. Because otherwise you'd be driving, your geiger counter would only have a chance to click once and bam, you are crushed or burnt to death.

Sick, looks awesome. Like the new website.
New site is a little slow but looks nice and has some new information such as artifact examples:
"Mama's beads -
Mama's beads An extremely rare artifact of unknown origin.
An oddly coiled spiral strewn with pearly droplets. Nourishes the bearer, completely suppressing the feeling of hunger. Anyone carrying the artifact can do without food or drink for an infinite period of time.
The only known side-effect is increased susceptibility to radiation."
Nice to see eating is still there (sausages??? what about vegetarians? no nut cutlets?) despite all the nay-sayers claims that everything good has been cut out. Yes, I was one of them. And going by the beta test interview, there is also no firm yes or no about sleeping either. Things may be looking up...
Vehicles i'm not bothered about, having to walk through a hostile environment as night closes in should add to the tension and hopefully make the game harder (i hate the easy option). One of my main gripes about large map games recently is the ease at which you can teleport/ride/drive all over the map, instantly shrinking the world and taking away any exploration value. Bring on difficulty.
Probably nothing original FPS-wise, but at the very least this will be something new to play while i'm off sick.

I think the most I'll miss is searching out a safe spot to sleep/driving around slamming into packs of wild dogs/stalkers who annoy you
the vehicle system was one of the biggest draws because you had to actively search for parts/gas to make it operational ..I mean who wouldnt want to bomb around in a lada (http://judey.dasmirnov.net/lada.jpg) in the irradiated zone?

there is also no firm yes or no about sleeping either
Key features:
* Living-and-breathing world: virtual monsters and stalkers migrate around the Zone, similarly to the player they are preoccupied with day-to-day things ? feeding, fighting, looking for prey, trading, sleeping, taking rest
Sounds like theres a good chance you will have to sleep and rest like the other stalkers and creatures, just simply out of fairness.

mmmm, lada's
but in the playtest it's quoted that zone levels can be sprinted across in just a few minutes, in a vehicle you would be across them before you even started the engine.
Maybe in an expansion...
Gargantou
30-01-2007, 03:39 PM
Expansion is unlikely, especially a good one, because the main devs of the game are leaving the company upon completion of the game to continue work on a game called Metro 2033, which is basically an unraped STALKER concept, with a totally new company.
It's sorta funny GSC has already decided there's gonna be a STALKER 2.. I wonder how that will turn out with pretty much all of their lead coders, artists and even lead designers leaving the company haha.

hmm I read somewhere that there were some areas that were rather large and you spent considerable time running from point A to point B ..there's definately various small towns besides the chernobyl site but I'm sure they've scaled or addressed that issue once they cut vehicles from the game ...I wonder what led to that decision ..vehicles are almost standard in a fps

Yup this is true, but whether i'd call this a pure fps is another matter - as it's a kind of fps/rpg hybrid i'd expect gameplay more along the lines of Deus Ex or Oblivion, with guns thrown in. but hey that's just me. For vee-hickle fun i'm looking forward to crysis

I think I wanted vehilces as a way of ensuring the game is truely open ended ..which it's not so I guess I'll just have to readjust my thinking as to what this game is about ...I'd rather not consider it a survival horror game (my least liked fps sub genre)..I'm hoping it's more Deus Ex than Oblivion
