Would you like one day to see the world unified, but not under america, china and alike.

To see all people in the world as one race, "ethnic" group, culture,...

leave economic, social and political systems out.

edit: rational answer why not? and why yes?

Without the same culture and crap, but one economic, political and social system would be nice (a good one). I actually thought of Pangea as soon as I read the thread title.

I actually think the world is better off with a lot of small nations rather than one big one.

I think, even if the Earth were to be unified, we would get new wars, let's say we think 300-400 years into the future, the Earth have largely colonized Mars and it's under Earth control, even if the Earth is unified, people will never like to be under anyone elses control that's 'far' away imo, so Mars colonies would probably try to start a war vs the Earth.

clarky003

Hm not to sure about that ^ . Most wars are resource based so it all depends on what the future holds for how we end up obtaining our energy and materials. Then theres just the problem of religion.

Or more depressingly, each nation would try to gain extraterrestrial favor to gain advantages over the other.

I concur. The world should rather be divided into more and more seperate factions.

The UN needs a competing organization, just like NATO VS Warsaw Pact. Except it shouldn't be 1:1, for it could cause a world war, but rather something like 1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1.

Yes.
How long do we keep holding on to "cultural diversity" for nostalgic reasons? Efficiency and practicality WINS. Our heritage can be preserved in museums, our history in books, but the real world has to progress beyond wars and rivalries.

I find it ridiculous that my own countrymen speak in over a thousand different languages and dialects. Eventually the human race has to unite across geographical and political boundaries.

I didn't vote because I don't believe anybody knows the best solution because there are so many things to consider. I think it's worth giving it a shot to see how it works and if not, then change.

The Earth won't unite until humanity encounters other sentient life and realises that actually, at the end of the day we're actually pretty similar to each other and should stop disagreeing. Because ultimately humans are incapable of uniting for any cause higher than seperating out the 'other'.

Either that, or the 'aliens' come from within humanity just like in the Mars case. And the Zeon Republic faces off against the Earth Federation and every Japanese male born since 1979 has a wet dream.

Science Fiction seems to be obsessed with the idea though. I think that's probably the best indication that it'll never actually work :P

having one government would mean that the only direction that the government would look for threats to its power would be internally.

Right now governments compete, there are wars, and they are wary of each other. If you take all that away, They have nowhere else to focus their mistrust but upon their own people. Big brother will very much be watching.

The only exeption would be if humanity colonizes other planets. Then with some healthy competetion and an external nemesis, a 1 world gov. would not be so bad so long as there are other worlds.

See, everyone is pointing out the political implications (and the dumb religious implications) of vaguely defined "unification".

jverne is ONLY talking about racial/sexual equality, in a vacuum - basically a situation with absolutely zero racism and sexism, without downsides - which is obviously good but also fantasy.

A unified world is my hope for the future. I would hope for it to be achieved sometime during the course of human advancement and enlightenment, casting off the ideas of using nations, cultures, races, and religions as barriers. The world under a single government body and a single banner.

And I hope it would be achieved without having to colonize Mars or fight space aliens.

And I hope it would be achieved without having to colonize Mars or fight space aliens.

In reality I think the concept of a single world government would be taken seriously only in one of those situations.

Since history has a tendency to repeat itself I see something like this happening: Lets say somewhere in the second half of the 22nd century there are several colonial states on Mars that unite and demand independence from the USA, or EU, or whoever might be a superpower then. A massive war starts and the only way the earth forces can continue the war is to form a global government that can drain resources from everywhere without restrictions for the war effort. Yeah I know it's a sad reason for globalization but totally possible.

This could be a good background story for a RTS:cheese:

actually you can talk about cultural and other systems. but this is not the point of this thread. but you were partially correct with the racism part.

i mean unification that we act as one, are treated as one, no more latinos, blacks, asians...just humans.

of course it's fantasy, but i was wondering what would be your answer if by miracle it happens tomorrow. would you like it or not.

but feel free to talk about other issues.

Just kill all the latinos, blacks, asians, etc. and leave the white people then we'll all be unified. then you kill everyone with a different political and religious ideology than the chosen religion and political ideology and we'll be unified that way too. then it'll be much easier to unite the world, just have to brainwash the children and there wont be uprisings. there ya go, a united world without aliens or whatnot.

Another idea i have is to just genetically engineer alien looking things that are sentient and have them shot from the sky to earth in a manmade UFO and have them kill a whole bunch of people and keep sending them places around the world and everyone would be like omg aliens lets unite. then i come out and kill all the aliens and become president of the world. :)

We've spent several thousand years diversifying as a species, even with globalisation we aren't going to congeal back into a collective gloop for a long long while yet, and let's face it the world would be a dull old place if everybody looked and acted the same. I think the big change for humanity will be the gradual adoption of a universal language. English is already pretty much accepted as Europes second language (mainly due to American media).
