I've never seen Gordon's shadow, and I was recently play Anti-Citzen 1, and you know JUST before you jump into the Radioactive sludge filled tunnel, where those lights from that van Blare right at the screen? I don't think you can see Gordon's shadow behind you now can you?

Gordon has no body or shadow that you can see. This was a desicion taken by valve, as they believed it would be more immersive. I personally agree, altough some people don't

As far as shadows are concerned, I don't think HL2 uses dynamic lighting like that.

They could add shadows, CS:S doesn't have first person shadows but when you watch somebody in spectate mode you see them. I personally think they removed them because they look silly without a body.

Crossbow reload.
Magnum reload.
Pistol reload.
Grenade throw.
Crowbar.
Bugbait.

What was your point, exactly?

Right - if I remember correctly, shadows are only cast from one source (direction) per level. Episode Two is going to have a new dynamic shadowing system, which may or may not support dynamic-light shadows; as-is, the flashlight casts shadows, but we don't know if anything else will.

They dont want you to see his shadow to make it more immersive. Thats all

I for one really don't think an FPS and being able to see the player characters shadow are a right combination. :)

Merely my humble opinion though. :)

Well it's better than the theories saying he's the G-man of course. :P

People think he's G-man?
Pathetic.

But I do agree about it being more immersive, it just seems kind of lazy too. Oh well, still an awesome game though, and it won't stop me from playing Anti-citzen 1 anymore!

Lol, I misread that as "Crowbar throw". Boomerang Crowbar!

You'd never heard that before? Oh God I envy you so much. Next you're gonna tell me you haven't heard people asking for the return of Adrian Shephard.

You don't know how many times I've said to myself (and others), "Why can't Gordon throw the crowbar?" I think that once he puts 2 and 2 together and realizes the crowbar can be used as a projectile, he'll conquer the universe in 1/4th the time it would've taken him normally. I mean after he learns that...why would he even NEED a gun?

I lol'd.

It's definately an immersion thing. They could easily put in shadows if they wanted to.

I wonder if Team Fortress 2 will have shadows...

Is there a particular reason why a shadow would make it less immersive? Because we rarely notice our own shadows? Or because people would be too much in awe how realistic it was, and get distracted?

Jintor

Well, if the shadow was of a multi-limbed tentacle monster, that would be less immersive.

But I'm really saying nothing. Ignore me.

Because there's nothing visible to be -casting- the shadow. You never see anything more than your hands; if you look straight down, you see the ground, not your body. A shadow apparently originating from nowhere would be stranger than not having one at all.

Maybe when they finally implement true dynamic shadows it will be worth seeing your shadow and the rest of gordon, other than his hands for that matter.

personally though I'd really like to be able to see the rest of me, it worked really well in thief 3

ACTUALLY, I'm all for the Adrian return (yes, poor you).
I just think that Gordon being G-man is the most pathetic theory I've heard, it's like saying Dr.Breen is Eli. Both are SEPARATE, and important characters to the storyline.

Shadows might make the game LESS immersive because people might notice the outlines and think it's no longer themselves in the situation... what the hell am I saying... No one's going to pay that much attention to the outlines. I mean, I DID as a kid, but us gamers are just focused on killing what's around the corner! Valve IS being lazy!

THE END IS NIGH!!!

Seeing your body (slightly off the point, but meh) because it never seems real. I remember playing FEAR, I was on a stairwell and some enemies came around the corner in from of me, I naturaly went into the aim mode and killed them. When I was done I noticed something odd.
1: My feet were floating in the air, not touching the steps at all
2: My arm was going through my legs (I was crouching at the time)

Plus I would image Valve programmers breaking down and crying trying to animate Gordon's body climbing into vehicles.s :P

Valve Programmer I: OMFG, damn, this is soo hard!!!
VP II: what's wrong?
VP I: trying to get Gordon into this buggy!
Vp II: Oh, you should take a break man, we've never tried this before! Here, let me try!

*2 hours Later*

Narrator: There I sat, my chair to one side, with the Keyboard in two halves, one half right through the PC screen, the other in VP I's head. I hate my job!

Sometimes I like to look into vast crevaces, and I'm glad legs are not blocking my view.

Yeah, I see your point with legs blocking views and such. Like when you are walking on glass in the citdael, and you can look down and see to the depths. Awesome!
