Game of the Year
Company of Heroes

I think this is the third site agrees that CoH is Game Of The Year for PC..

Yeah. And CoH deserves it too. I like how DEFCON got some recognition as well.

I think they should split Sound into "Best Sound" and "Best USE of Sound". That way, Company of Heroes actually deserves its sound award (best sound), and DEFCON gets an award for best USE of sound (which, by the current wording, should have been the winner anyway).

Nice to see Defcon and Ship get nods.

Whoa, E3 was canceled? Why?

Because.

*shrug*

All I know is, it's left a power vacumn, which makes the Penny Arcade Expo the most powerful gaming convention in the states. :D

How in the world is Oblivion winning the "best story" catagories? Its run of the mill "save the kingdom" crap.

CoH should've won the best graphics thing.

And Lego Star Wars 2 doesn't really deserve best action game, but we really didn't have many decent releases this year.
'07 should be a better year for gaming. (STALKER, Spore, Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, etc.)

Slim pickings this year, with awards going to anything showing a hint of quality. I do agree though, the main story was pretty crappy.

I love how despite the amazing new Ai system all main characters STILL felt like bots wearing masks to match the situation.

I heard something about E3 wasn't focusing enough on games(surprisingly enough), so alot of sponsors dropped out. They had alot of other things then games at E3... booth babes? Maybe people were more interested in the babes then the games.

FEAR was amazing.

I guess I was a bit harsh. IMHO, it was average at best. I place it no higher than Doom 3 or Quake 4.

Neverwinter Nights 2 has a far superior story to Oblivion...and I only just finished Act 1.
Wasn't KoToR 2 released in 2006 aswell? Another game with a far superior story...

The oblivion story was absolutely pathetic.

It started off, and it had patrick stewart talking and I was like OMG this is going to fantastic. It was all set up brilliantly, then Stewart dies and the story turns into OMG GET THE AMULET!

It wasn't really told in an interesting way either. And there were like four voices for all the characters.
On the other hand, the Doom 3 story was very standard fare, but the storytelling was excellent.
I'm really enjoying NWN2, when I have time to play it. Check it out.

Nothing beats Deus Ex though. Damn, what an incredible game.

I've been going back to deus ex every month or so, I'm pretty far, but yet to finish it.

It is damn fantastic though. Story wise though, max payne 2 wins hands down.

The Oblivion tutorial - everything up to and very slightly beyond Patrick Stewert dying - was great. Everything beyond that was shit, but still semi addictive - I was like "Surely this gets better... right? Right?"

Max Payne 2 is a great example of how a game should be made. It's like interactive cinema. Deus Ex has a waaaay better story though...
It's also a warning about globalisation that we would do well to heed.

No, it wasn't excellent.

Max Payne 2 has a great storyline, but it's not the best out there. Deus ex and Half-life 2 take the prize for me, because they are both quite frankly excellent.

Max Payne is pure cheese, which I think was the intention. Fun, but I wouldn't give it a prize for story telling.

Planescape still holds the award for best story and quality of writing for me - nothing else has gotten slightly close.

I'm begining to agree. Dungeons, items and their use, and fighting wise, TP is the best Zelda i've played. The only area that OoT has the upper hand is in the story and possibly the pacing (TP takes a while to get going). The best bits of TP i'm enjoying more than the best bits of OoT :)

Lego star wars as best action? What the.... It was a fun game but damn there was better stuff out there. Seeing as Condemned was nominated I would've rather had that win instead :x.

I think they were taking this piss when the named lego star wars best action game, and if they weren't, they have issues. VERY pleased to see Company of Heroes named game of the year, agree completely.

Wait.. wait.. Dark Crusade isn't an expansion! ITS A FREAKIN STAND-ALONE GAME! Technically, you would want to have the other 2 be expansions, since it adds on to Dark Crusades story and playable races! OMG WHO TOLD THEM IT WAS AN EXPANSION?
Good choice though.

I think Lego Star Wars should have been under the 'Best Comedic Action game' Catagory.

2006 was a terrible year all around, nothing brilliant or exceptionally original. Bring on Spore, Bioshock and UT2K7/msuc2 mods.
