sounds like they're separating paying and non paying customers ..if they go completely free with ads then I'll download it, otherwise out of principle I wont buy it/download this trial ..not signing up for spam/spybots just so I can play bf2142 for a week

Ha, this is a clear sign that it's been doing worse than they expected. They release this 1.5 years after BF2 and call it a sequel, whereas it's obvious that no proper sequel can be made in that time. Even the reviews said it feels more like a big mod than a different game. I also hear that BF2142 activity levels are dropping quite fast.

Game-monitor has stopped recording Titan game mode servers since patch 1.06 for whatever reason. The numbers are lower than BF2 but not by that much.

Free trial is to show people unlocks, the demo is weak at showing what the full gameplay is like

I think they withdrew that. It's probably because of all those haters that laughed at their idea to make a free trial for everyone - they sat in the corner, cried and refused to carry on.

BF2 sucked horribly. BF2142 is not just a "mod" they have really improved gameplay and dynamics in my opinion and so what if only 6000 players are on it, damn, it's hard to find an empty server at all in that game, too many players.

The adverts arn't noticeable.

I hated BF2, but BF2 is feeling really nostalgic now and I might reinstall it to get some time away from the laser guns that done hit people half the time, and the automated turrets that kill you through 4ft thick walls inside the Titan...

BF2142 is just a mod. Same game engine, same GUI layouts, different maps and skins is all...

And yes it is hard to find an empty server...there are hundreds of servers with 1 or 2 people on them...

I rarely find an empty server. Servers always have at least 20 or more people.
