Start game, no doubt you have to find a proffessor to talk to, so go find him.
Walk around with your first pokemon (you get a choice of 3, don't you know), until you meet a rival who you battle. Turns out he has one of the other 3 pokemon - the match of the pokemon is that his will probably have an element advantage. So you fight, then he buggers off.
etc. etc. Find pokemon that can fly, find pokemon that can surf, etc etc.

Actually the start is alittle different. Saw a few videos on youtube. You actually are wandering without a pokemon with your rival, you find this guy and someone else in the forest, seems like they are arguing, and them wander off past you, out of the forest, and you notice they left a briefcase. You go up to the case and you get attacked by two pokemon, so naturally, you pick a pokemon from the three in the briefcase and VIOLA! Super new original beginning =P
