I'm thinking of purchasing a new graphics card. Being able to play games like FEAR on full graphics would be nice but I really just want to make sure I can run games decently for a few years and not have to buy another one for a good while. Recommendations please. :imu: :cat: :imu:

If you want it to last a few years, you should go for DX10 (nvidia 8800gts or 8800gtx) or if you don't have enough money for those cards, wait a few months for lower-level DX10 cards to come out.

This is a sticky spot. You could either get a DX9 card now and just miss the DX10 features, turn down detail. Maybe buy DX10 card later when the majority of games have DX10 as their focus. Or you could buy a top end card which supports DX10 and be set when Vista is released to the masses next year.

This is a terrible time to buy a graphics card, as dx10 and vista are on the horizon, and both ATI and nVidia are currently being sued for breaking anti-trust laws (ie, their prices are higher than they should be).

My reccomendation: wait.
