Another topic like this yes...

It seems to me that this mind rape thing is a bit wrong... If I may speculate for a second I think it's a different thing.

The fact is, anyone familiar with mind control would knows that you can be hypnotized, leave the person's presense, and still be hypnotized.

I'm very sketical to believe that powers of the mind from this thing would leave as soon as they leave the room. Esp. given that powers of the mind can extent to any room. People can have out of body experiences, go to far off places, move objects from far away, the mind can do many things if you have ESP...

It doesn't seem to me as much mind control as it seems to me the entire presense of the creature was too much to bear. Not in a way you think up, but perhaps he is so powerful that anyone who is near him becomes a slave to him.

Or maybe they meant it to be like that, maybe he figured it wasn't worth it to use the mind rape powers on the people. But it seems more or less like his simple presense was simply too much to bear.

...No, it was deliberate mind rape. The mind raping didn't begin until Alyx tapped the glass, then the gigantic black men started humping your head.

It felt to me more like some sort of psychic whip. Anyway, who's to say the Advisors are governed by human experiences of the psyche? For all we know it might be some sort of incidental growth on their head that is really launching all the psychic attacks on you.

Story related threads go in the singleplayer mythology forum. Episode 1 related threads go in the Episode 1 forum.

As the coiner of the term mind rape I object to the first post! :p
Anyway, I don't think it was him trying mind control, I think it was just a way of saying "F*CK OFF!" or maybe trying to harm your. Perhaps if the conveyer hadn't taken it away it would have killed you.

Related story:
The first time I played that level I thought me getting away from it and to the doorway was what stopped the mind-rape because Alyx and I got to it at basicly the same time and it immediatly stopped.

I wonder what else the advisors can do with their psychic powers, besides Mind-Rape™?

You don't want to know. I guess it's something about *cough* their tail *cough*.

And Zellio, seriously, stop trying to poke holes in mr Laidlaw's work. It's useless.
