I read that Interplay sold the Fallout license to Bethesda, but retained the rights to a "massively multiplayer" Fallout. This was awhile back, so is there any news about this? Even if it merely indicates that it is still in development would be nice. Interplay still has a site up, but it doesn't say anything about it. Anyway, any info on this would be appreciated.

I don't think it'd be any good even if they did make it. I cant see how fallout could become an MMO, there'd be far too many people around for it to really seem post apoc.

"WTF DEATHCLAWS D:"
"HOW 2 GET AMMOZ"
"WERE I GET WORK"
"NEED TRAVALING COMPANIUN"
"HEAL PLZ"
"PLZ GIVE CAPS, POOR"

^^ That's a winning formula, right there

Although I love the Fallout franchise more than any other games out there, I'd really hate to see an MMO of it.

It seems really unlikely to me that Interplay would afford to dev a MMO.. Afterall, they've been on the brink of bankruptcy for like two years..

If it were done properly, an MMO version would be one of the most amazing games to ever come out in the history of ever. But chances are a truly great Fallout MMO won't exist for at least a decade.

Pretty sure Interplay barely exists anymore.

they don't have the company infrastructure now (or foreseeably ever in the future) to do it

Wouldn't work, Fallout only works as a 2D single-player RPG

Bob says: No!

It wouldnt work. Really.

well it would, but you'd basically have to never see anyone else in the game...

I'm saving my hope for 'Fallen Earth' (http://fallenearth.com/) - looks like they're trying to do some out-there stuff even is the website has google ads at the moment...

That and the story seems to have moral grounding to it; no one side is evil, or just there are holes in every side.

But Fallout would never work, the 'verse is too well known by everybody.

I think a Fallout MMO would kickass - I mean for those people that dont get a pleasure out of fairies, elves, and orcs. I would definately buy into it if it was properly made and addicting like fallout games.

Yeah, what's wrong with a post-apocolyptic wasteland with the remains of various real-world cities as your backstory?

I'm just more saying that everybody would know where eveything is etc, not being able to discover it for yourself... But that's only what i think i'd like in an MMO.

Also, in an MMO there is no finality of death. In fallout, if you got yourself killed you got the bleached skeleton in the sun, and the "you screwed up, now you vault is buggered sideways!". You just wouldnt get than in an MMO

You COULD get it, permadeath, but the question is how well would it sit with the average gamer?;)

...now THERE'S a challenge.

I myself love permadeath, it's used alot in roguelikes(A form of turn-based RPGs), and it really makes you take better care of your character.

The problem is though that if they have perma death in a setting that features rocket launchers, high explosives, and miniguns, things are gonna get really weird or really frustrating as they try to balance things.

Also there is a massive disparity between someone running around in looted power armor with an m60 and some schmuck tribal with a spear.

No, i'd rather the game stayed within the non-MMO spectrum of gaming. Although a multiplayer or coop mode would be nice.
