What's a good fps or rts game to get nowadays?

Well, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 1, Half-Life 2 Episode 1, Battlefield 2142 (some here may disagree)

F.E.A.R: Extraction Point?

Havent played it myself yet, but people are saying that this game is alot more "spooky" then the original which the game requires to run because it's only an expansion, not a full game.

Company of Heroes and the newest Dawn of War expansion, Dark Crusade, are two amazing RTS's, and DC is standalone so you don't have to have DOW or DOW:WA to play it. They're both also phenomenally pretty, especially COH.

As far as FPSs go, if you have an xbox 360, get Gears of War. If not, BF2142 is pretty fun, and if you haven't played Half-Life 2, you haven't lived.

Medieval 2, Total war for an RTS

From what I've played its great so far.

And Gears of War is 3d Person isn't it? :P

Fairly old but still a blast with friends (not so good single player though): C&C:Generals and its' expansion, Zero Hour.

True, but it's amazing anyway.

Jintor, I hated Generals D: I got it and ZH for free and I still felt ripped off.

Definately Company Of Heroes or any of the Dawn Of War series for an RTS. As for FPS I recently bought Condemned and it was on budget. Will push your system to the max and also way scarier than FEAR could ever be.

Company of heroes and Medieval 2 are the RTS games to get atm.

As for a FPS game, I wouldn't know because I haven't played any for a while. BF2 still rules, but the BF2142 demo sucked imo.

Battle for Middle-Earth 2's a pretty solid RTS.

Can't help you out on recent FPSes, the most recent I've bought and played is Battlefield 2... haven't touched it in months though.

Not much in the FPS department; all the big names are still "coming soon."

For RTS, the best choices are Medieval 2 and Company Of Heroes, depending on your RTS scale preference or preferred time period.
