"Valve has just announced that major publisher Activision is the latest game industry company to pledge support for Valve's successful Steam digital delivery service. Recently, publisher Majesco made several of its games, including Double Fine's Psychonauts, available via Steam, and various independent developers have used Steam as a primary distribution channel for their games. Today's deal will see four Activision games on the service: Infinity Ward's Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2, Grey Matter's Call of Duty United Offensive, and Neversoft's Gun."
Cool beans.

valve are slowly turning into an electronic distribution giant. kudos to them, theyre a really dedicated set of guys who listen to their customers and will reap the rewards
That's awesome! They should probably work on getting an even more diverse set of games on there so they attract more people who may not be into FPS games.

If they refuse to price competatively, whats the point?

I agree ..I can get CoD on special for $9 ..$19 for the expansion bundle
hoping new releases will make their way on to steam ..i'd definately look into getting new games because the price is closer to that of retail
If they refuse to price competatively, whats the point?Convenience of just downloading it rather than going to the store is pretty big IMO. I bet some people that pirate games say the same thing, downloading is just easier. Although I wouldn't buy it over Steam if I knew it's price was a lot lower at a local store.
Did they list prices for these games anywhere?

I'm pretty sure VALVe can't force the other publishers to pay certain amounts, but can only advise them on things and make sure they don't charge ludicrous amonts either.
So if the pricing is horrible, I wouldn't blame Valve.
I hope Activision not only takes advantage of the distribution of their games via Steam, but also the patching of their games via Steam.

Anyway, sounds great for Valve. Atlast a HUGE company has decided to really make use of the Steam system. Off-the-shelf will soon be a thing of the past.

Be crazy if next year they started distributing their games without EA. :x

holy shit.....steam is turning into something huge.....this is awesome
wow, big name games and publishers turning to Steam, this is awesome... but also kind of scary at the same time. CoD3 distribution over Steam? I hope so :). I'm really impressed with the fact that Valve truly is starting the online distrubition "revolution", devs from the small time to the huge corporate giants are joining in, color me impressed. Steam has come a LOOOOONG way since the unplayable beta that we suffered through.

Dude Valve is not only going to be a game developer. They are probably going to seek profits within the delivery business. I.E. expand what they deliver VIA Steam like games, other software, music, movies. And most likely will pick-up some major gaming companies too!

I think the name "Valve" really suits the company when it comes to the distribution platform that is Steam :P

It's just a matter of time before Steam is full of lousy, average and awesome games.

Bah it's just a matter of time before steam consumes the internets as we know it.

I doubt they'd drop from retail, but this would help them out to a lazy person such as myself who would probably never go drive to a game store and look for CoD series.

The more this happens, the more everyone involved saves, so its a win-win-win-win, etc. I still like some of my old game boxes though...;(

Sweet, now I've got Pyschonauts to play on this three-day weekend :D
Too bad CoD3 isn't for PC, so it won't be on steam. :( CoD4 is though, and that's actually made by Infinity Ward.
I wonder if they'll put Quake Wars on Steam, woot!
Now all Steam needs is more, good RTS games and they'll control PC gaming.

I have a question...
Would I be able to run my current CoD through Steam?
I hope they announce something for people who already brought the game!
Good stuff anyway ;)

It's nice to be able to get games through Steam that aren't in the stores around here any more.(Advent Rising, Blood Rayne series, etc.)
