View Full Version : Nintendo Wii launch date and price leaked
http://forums.gametrailers.com/showthread.php?t=33608
While I can't speak for its authenticity, I must say this looks rather convincing. Someone who was looking to make up information like this would not go to the trouble of writing an entire speech, outlining various presentations and even writing down the lengths of time for each.
The key points are: The Nintendo Wii will launch on October 2nd, 2006 for $175 US dollars.
The console will come packaged with one controller, one nunchuck attachment, one classic controller, Wii Sports, and, for a limited time, Duck Hunt Wii.
Again, I don't want to say this is absolutely true, but the thing looks to be about as close as you can get when it comes to looking and sounding official. If it's all true then Nintendo has a killer package on its hands. Not one, but two free games packaged with the console? Even if they are very basic, that's value you can't possibly top.
EDIT: It's fake. Feel free to beat me. :P

Eh, actual "documents" don't look authentic. Pretty poor p-chop, actually. Wrinkly paper with non-wrinkled text.
Yeah.

People have gone to these lengths before, so I wouldn't be suprised at all if it was fake. In fact, I'd say it is fake.

What's the nunchuck for?
It's the the little controller with the analoge stick built in tha connects to the WiiMote. So it looks like a nunchuku.
Anyway, I'm going to assume thats fake untill the legit announcment... which is supposed to be VERY soon anyway.
But I think that $175 is pretty damn close. But I can see it going as high as $250.

Here are the Wii prices. No launch date though
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5280958.stm
Anyone notice that the Wii is $250 and €250 yet $250 is not equal to €250. That just isn't right.
Wow I think I'm gonna buy it

It is right. If prices were made to be equal people in other countries would be getting a hell of a deal.
Besides, who do you tihnk is profiting?
America?
The answer is no.

If its $175 US in the UK, which translates to £92.20 (which it wont, welcome to rip off Britan) I'll buy one on the day of release.
Personally I'd expect it to be slightly more than $200 (maybe ~$220)...
They already have the significant price advantage vs PS3 / 360 so I'd imagine they'd put it as high as possible to maximize profits.

No the only people profiting will be Nintendo. They will be making more per unit in Europe then they will in the US.

Well I hope these new rumors are wrong.
If they're true it sounds like they're having production issues with the Wiimote.
On Nintendo’s Wii side, there are many rumours recently that said Wii may launch earlier than expected in late Oct, in order to suppress PS3 that launches in mid-Nov, but in fact Nintendo may not have a confirmed official launch day, due to all sorts of problems related to the controller that prevented mass production.
The factory has received Wii controller’s purchasing order and its sample, but is still stucked in testing phrase. From feedbacks of testers, currently the Wiimote and nunchuck still have a lot of small issues, such as buttons aren’t sensitive, hard to press 2 buttons together, and even no response occasionally, and the current sample is easy to get damaged, using the controller in normal situation will produce some noise, etc. Entering Sept, if the above hardware problems cannot be fixed, it will directly affect Wii’s selling strategy.
Also, the factory has not received the Wii console from Nintendo yet, currently they are testing samples using a dedicated machine only for testing, which means after an up-to-standard sample is produced, it still needs to be sented back to Japan to be tested by Nintendo for the 2nd time. Wii controller uses bluetooth technology for real-time data transfer, and infrared for “space location”(space as in that Eistein(?)) guy Time-Space thingy), and the 2nd phrase of testing procedures maybe even tougher!
