A new banner i made for halflife2.net

Since it's been two months since I've heard anything about the banner contest here at halflife2.net I figured nothing is happening with it. Since I put a couple of good hours into it I decided to post up my banner I made here just cause :cheers:

Contrast seems to high.

Substance wise that is. The black left and the white right create a high contrast, which makes the banner annoying.

I mean, it's a great banner and all, but that little contrast issue kinda throws it off, and makes it kinda scream out from the rest of the site.

Thanks for the feedback :) I'll see if I can darken up the right hand side a bit.

The Gordon concept art feels wrong, you can see only part of his face and it's like "wtf? Do I need to scroll up some more? Oh. No." Just feels out of place.

I like our current banner because it's stylish and not just a bunch of pictures photoshopped in.

Actually the current banner has a bunch of images photoshopped in. Images from before hl2 was released even, slightly dated.

As to the image of Gordon he's meant to be completely mysterious, he's this unkown avatar and that's meant to be conveyed by not seeing his face.

I think the banner in discussion here is the one on the front page, not the forum banner. Unless, this new one will replace both. :frog:

I mean, true, yours is nothing more than Opiums (a bunch of photoshoped in images), but his actually plays on some sort of composition, as yours is just some generic "LOL PEOPLE FRAME THE WERDS :D" thingamajig.

Digi's banner is nice and all, but the "HL2" doesn't fit. Looks too "Battlefield 2-y", though the color choice would go well with the forum color layout. Still, I think the threadstarter's banner is best. And basisti's is good, but it doesn't have that flair.

I like the Hunter and the forest on the left. I like the idea of using Gordon in the middle and the lambda symbol linking up with his HEV suit.

However, that said, the stuff on the right is not working for me. I think the problem is it's too different from what's on the left side. On the left is one picture, on the right side it's 3 or 4.

I think if you kept one picture on the right side, it would work a little better.

I wonder how it would look with all forest in the back? Maybe the Dog vs. Strider or the house blowing apart?

That's how it should be. Once the candidates have been submitted, we should hold a vote. Only, lets make the vote tabulation secret so that it'll be a surprise once unveiled.

i'm personally more a fan of minimalism.. it's too cluttered up with random junk, characters in different vantage points, etc etc

not to rain on your parade or anything but quality and quantity is not the same. proper breathing space between images is as important as the images themselves
