"StarCraft is my absolutely favorite game of all time," Sams told us. "As you probably already know, there is no doubt that we will continue the StarCraft and Diablo franchise, and trust me, I will be the happiest person in the world when we announce StarCraft 2." While Sams wasn't ready to spill the beans just yet, he did say Blizzard "will have a major product announcement in 2007," and that Blizzard was currently working on at least three other unannounced titles at the moment.

I doubt Blizz will make another mmo. A lot of WoW players played Diablo 2 and would probably like a third, and possibly switch over to it if it was released. The two together would then have a slightly higher number of players than WoW does now, and Blizzard would have to maintain servers and updates for two different games.
My guess is Diablo 3 will be like the other 2(= win).

And Diablo II was a good game, so what's the problem with that? I'd perfer a Diablo sequel that felt like Diablo as opposed to another crappy MMO.

Diablo 2 was alright. It was great at first, but it got monotonous and boring more quickly then you'd think. If they could find a way of changing it up a bit, not drastic changes, but some subtle stuff..yeah.

Yes. However, recent studies show that you can keep a game genre the same and have it NOT be a total rehash! Incredible, I know.
Yes. However, recent studies show that you can keep a game genre the same and have it NOT be a total rehash! Incredible, I know.Really? Diablo II went as far as it could go within the limitations of its genre. Unless we see some major changes (first-person perspective, combo moves, etc.) then we'll be playing the same damn game with a few new characters, skills, and all that. I have faith in Blizzard, and they make excellent games, but there's not much left to do in Diablo without taking it in a drastically different direction.

Yeah, but to be perfectly honest, I'd rather have a Diablo FPS than a Diablo MMO.
Not really, but you get the idea.

I already guessed they had 3 unannounced projects a week or 2 ago.
-Console team is making an unannounced game. These guys are the acquired Swingin Apes Studio's that were making Sc:G for 2 years then it was put on hold.
-Diablo team is making an unannounced game. These guys made Diablo's obviously... All jobs are RPG oriented
-Core(Blizzard Entertainment team) is making an unannounced game. These guys made the RTS's, all the jobs are RTS oriented(RTS Level Designer, Low Poly modeler)
You can figure this out by looking at there hiring page.

I'm really eager to play StarCraft 2... but I hope it is different from WarCraft 3 in its gameplay. I don't want all the focus on the bloody Hero units. I want a big unit count and lots of and lots of air/space craft, marines, tanks, ect... to send en-mass at the enemy. Not just one or two 12 member squads each lead by a hero. The thing I didn't like about WarCraft 3 is it did not feel Epic the way StarCraft did. Seeing tiny armies attack one another just isn't as dramatic as watching the large armadas/swarms of StarCraft go head to head.

yes, I agree completley.
Starcraft needs to be all about huge convential forces and epic strategy gameplay. But, the original starcraft did have quite a few hero-like units. I basically just want a scaled up and bigger version of starcraft, with massive maps, tons of units and simulation-style gameplay rather than rockpaperscissors.
but who am I kidding? This is blizzard. They will give us a poorly made 3d remake with heroes and superpowers and tiny unit counts.
Langolier
26-08-2006, 01:31 AM
The Hero units were strong in their HP counts and standard attacks, but not so much so that they dramatically over-shadowed the rest of your force or that they alone could turn the tide of a battle.

I really, really want starcraft 2. If they make it they better not **** it up its the best RTS game ever made (IMO)

Starcraft 2: Awesome, certainly took them long enough.
Diablo 3: Meh, not much of a Diable fan personally.
Something else: Could this mean a WOW expansion, or is this something completly different? Interesting, regardless.

WoW is already getting an expansion. That is an announced project.
With Sc:G on hold and the Console team hiring they are most certainly making a console game.

If Blizzard could make a sequel of StarCraft due to those reasons, they would have made it a long time ago. I think they're afraid of doing another StarCraft, due to the first game being so perfect. It would be a let-down if the sequel happened to be not as revolutionary as the first game. People are most likely gonna keep saying that the first game was better no matter how good the sequel turns out to be.

I believe one apon a time a Blizzard employee said this. It would be a rather difficult take to make a game like Starcraft let alone a better one.

Or maybe after making Brood War the RTS team decided to make WC3 and TFT. The RTS team has been making a game since TFT.
