Really? I was the complete opposite. This looks about 5 times more exciting than Episode 1. Which turned out to be the most exciting game I think I've ever played.

HOLY SWEET ****ERY! That's insane, I mean I knew it was gonna be awesome, but from these videos... I didn't know it was going to be this awesome. There's just so much to praise it's rediculous;

A. Dynamic lighting!
B. The atmosphere of the antlion nest (the HDR-lighting makes it even more amazing).
C. Sheer amazing outdoor areas; I'm still amazed at that fluidity of racing through that forest following the train tracks.
D. Hunters are just too cool.
E. You can now throw axes with the gravity gun.

Nothing said yet about when. Really depends on how much they planned things before leaving the states, but I'd say chances are they might not come out on steam until they return from germany: I don't think they'd want to do a release with half the employees out of the country.

I hope they do release stuff soon though, because it's sort of stupid to have the low quality stuff floating around for so long before the high quality stuff.

Anyway, the vids were pretty awesome. And the wide-open spaces are a completely new horizon for the HL series. I just hope they are saving the character interaction scenes for later. C'mon Valve, I want story.

Enh, I think Ep1 went so much longer partially because they slowed the player down so much. I don't recall the individual levels in it being large, just slow. Kind of like the one level in Nova Prospekt where that message to the Combine soldiers was playing. The entire map is basically just that room, but because you're doing so much backtracking and running around, it takes awhile to go through. I hope they have implemented some streaming though (possibly something like the intra-level streaming they did for the Xbox but on a larger scale?) since the level transitions for the HL series are perfectly suited to that. Not to mention, minute long load times suck

"We were told that the lighting in the tunnel scene isn't final yet, but it was impressive nonetheless."

"Objects that got hurled at the walkers during the fight included old tires, an axe, a rock, a large water trough, and some kind of sticky bomb or magnetic explosive that landed on the walker's head and stayed there until Gordon detonated it with another well-placed shot."

Now , i didn't spot anything like the last example ,sticky bomb? If there was a sticky bomb in that video , i wonder if it's the same used on the Striders.

About the grub , at the start of part2 it seems the player is jumping over spots that have grabs in them. I assume that a contact with a grub causes damage.

When you first killed that grub I think it said "stealth" instead of "sex". Because after killing one or stepping on one the hive senses harm coming to its larvae. So they are there as a kind of security device for the hive. Thats what it looks like to me anyways.

If it turns out that the character is indeed G-Man then it just confirms a little theory that I've been thinking about. What if the G-Man really is human, this is after all a story with multiple Universes so maybe he is from another world inhabited by humans that are much more advanced then us.

Actually, it makes sense either way. If it was minced, I would agree. It's a top secret research facility, why wouldn't they kill the test subject after he knows so much about the project? Maybe it is death row prisoners, and they say if you make it through alive, you can live. I dunno..Minced wouldn't be my word of choice there though..Missed does actually make more sense than minced...

A lot of speculation has been going on about the character you will play in Portal. That's because it has been confirmed that the portal will take place in the halflife universe. But that doesn't necesalery mean that the character is a known individual in the hafllife universe! (unless i missed some news, in that case flame me!)

First off all there were rumors about prof. Kleiner being the playable character. How does that make any sense, Kleiner is al little wimp that only does science. No way he could be capable of enduring such deadly test, even if he was younger. Besides, i don't think just a bald spot on his head could be proof, a lot of people have bald spots on their head.

Than there is the G-man rumor. I find this quite unlikely. G-man is, next to Gordon, the most important character in the halflife universe. He is so interesting because of his mystique and sinisterness. No way Valve is going to screw that up by putting him in some sidegame (which doesn't mean i don't like portal, matherfact i get a boner just thinking about it :laugh: ) in which he is a testsubject toting a huge portalgun. That just doesn't make sense.

Of all the rumors about the character we will play i find shepard the most likely but i still doubt that too. Anyways, kleiner and g-man rumors are bullcrap.

Personally, I love the idea of playing through the hive - sounds like it could be very tense, as you're so vastly outnumbered in such a claustrophobic space. It looked wonderful as well.

It would be a cool story point, it would make relative sense and be a cool background for g-man, the only downside, and it's a big one, is that having the player be G-man for even a few hours completely destroys the mysticism of the character. So thanks for the idea, but no thanks.

i love how some of the antlions glow. Like the glowing guard.
Also the new gore effects. And i'm glad they gave the vortigaunts some crazy new moves. Like that tackle/schock

I love how they got the combine troops to toss your nades back at you. Like a lethal game of hot potato.

The driving looks like it will get increasingly interesting with fasties and who knows what else able to latch on for the ride.

The cinematic physics look kick ass. they really give the strider blasts a lot more oomph. Where in hl2 we only saw an explosion + crumbly croncrete gibs, now we see all sorts of more stuff. Plus i don't think cinematic physics are totally scripted. I think its more along the lines of the major parts are scripted and the remaining parts are random.

all in all this looks like its shaping up for some major badassery

Yes, I believe "cinematic physics" combines model animation with physics - a model animates for some time (or a script is working) and then physics take over.

On the other side, since Episode Two introduces multi core CPU support, maybe the second CPU core can handle all the fancy physics in real-time?

is it just me or does the vortigaunt say 'we recommend... sex' in the first video.

a comment says it's actually 'silence', but he definately says 'sex'. i wouldn't put it past valve to have the vautigaunt say this, as sex is important for people, especially when they're in stressful situations, maybe it's one of their funny little jokes.

Those gameplay video’s and the trailer are awesome!

The Antlion nest reminds me of Xen. The forest looks great. But I don’t really like the helicopter fight. It reminds me to much of Water Hazard.

When I was reading the PCGamer article some time ago, the Strider Busters sounded great. But in the gameplay trailers, I don’t really like them yet. After firing a Strider Buster at the Strider, it only takes 2 shots of the pistol to take the Strider down… That’s ridiculous.

And it doesn’t seem the Strider Buster needs a long time, or time at all, to drain the Strider’s energy. Hopefully Valve will adjust the use of the Strider Busters. Right now it’s a little bit too easy to kill a Strider.

And according to an old PCGamer article, the Hunters are suppose to protect the Striders and shoot down the Strider Busters. I didn’t see them do that in the gameplay video’s.

From the video , it doesn't seem the buster drains energy , it seems to be just a shootable mine on the Striders top. Though , why would the strider exolode from the mine , if 6 rockets don't bring it down , so i guess it does drain energy. They still have alot of time to set the timing and all.

I just really hope Hunters can shoot while running.

I'm confused, because I think the strider buster flashes faster then explodes, but it could just be it draining the strider so you can shoot it.

There was a hole shelf of them jsut visible on one of the trailers - someone here froze a screenshot of it...search the forums you should find it.
