Will the portal gun work underwater ? At the portal_hd trailer at 1min50sec there seems to be a pool of dark brown liquid .
And If so, will you be able to teleport large quantities of liquid to other locations ? Like drowning and filling tanks ? I guess not, because it would require a revolution in the way that a physics engine deals with water. But, if it could be possible, it would potentialy make portal-puzzles even more complex.

Ps. does anyone have a clue what these 'domino-like-number' signs mean ?

That would be an interesting puzzle. You have to drain a tank of water using a Portal. ;)

Liquid Physics would require a PPU.

and a new and/or upgraded physics game engine

I'd say no

More like a completely rewritten physics engine actually.
Because the only API to make use of a PPU would be Ageia's(who also made the PPU). Valve use a massively modified Havok physics engine.

it'd be wierd to put the portal on a building in middle of the continent and one in the deepest part of the ocean.

That would require a whole new engine and Valve wouldn't waste such efforts on an 'experiment game'.

But it could work with a room full of small balls, but that would just crash every computer apart from those at Valve.

If it does work underwater it will not be affected by the water.

I get giddy when I think of all the gameplay possibilities using the portal gun.

especially the infinite loop of doom :)
